  • Ask WoW Insider: Far from home

eNorox sent along a great question to Ask WoW Insider for you readers to answer this week. He's thinking about starting up a Gnome rogue, but he's tired of leveling through old Azeroth yet again:I want to try something different so I decided to level from 1 in the Draenei starting area. The only thing is... How could I get there the fastest and what can I do about leveling a rogue in a place that has no rogue trainers?I think us alt-o-holics out there have all done this at some point-- I have fond memories of leveling my Orc Shaman through the Forsaken starting area (because I had never seen it before), and in that case, I got real familiar with the Zeppelin, going back and forth between UC and Orgrimmar. But what do you all think of putting a Gnome on Azuremyst Isle? How can he get out there, and once he does, what's the best way to ensure fast travel between the Rogue trainers and his leveling area? And what other weird leveling locations have you chosen, even though it cost you more travel time to the trainer?

Welcome to Ask WoW Insider where we publish one of your questions every week. Last time we looked at whether or not healing can be as competitive as dpsing, and this week we return our attention to one of everybody's favorite topics: loot. Sephran writes: I started karazhan about 4 months ago. I was a resto druid and I was looking for that Shard of the Virtuous. The 1st time we rolled, another resto druid got it.. she promptly left the guild the following week... The 2nd time I passed it on to someone else who needed it A LOT more then I did. The 3rd time.. lost the roll again. Once I transfered guilds I thought it would be better.. but alas.. it dropped with more new people to kara.. I once again passed the hammer to another person for a super mega upgrade to them. The 5th time.. it dropped and I finnally won it!!! Tops my Happiest moments in WoW, thats for sure. Then on Opera my priest friend finally got her Masquerade gown that she had never seen drop since the 1st time I got it 4 months ago. So I'm wondering what TBC drop has escaped you? Any good stories to go along with why you haven't gotten it? We looked at this question shortly before BC came out, "in memoriam" for items we might truly never see now that focus would be shifting to all the new gear that would await in Outland. So now that the expansion is out, what gear has been eluding you? What is that one drop you just can't seem to get, or finally found its way to you after a long and strange journey? We need your questions! Send us your inquiries for next week to ask AT wowinsider DOT com.

It's the end of another week, and you know what that means -- it's time for another edition of Ask WoW Insider, where we post your questions for our readers to answer. This week we have a question from Rylia, who is curious about how many people actually mesh their playstyle around World of Warcraft's reputation system:WoW is my first MMORPG, and really the first computer game I've played for a decade or more -- I used to play things like King's Quest and Hero's Quest and Police Quest. So for me, the natural way to start when I get to a new zone is to fill up on all the quests, and march off to tick them off. Only later do I start thinking about getting my faction reps up. However, basically every guide to faction rep, for every faction, says that to make the most of your efforts, you need to wait to do your quests until you've ground up to honored with instances or turn-in quests.Interesting! Of course we all know the best way to gain reputation with most factions (Outland factions in particular, because each of those has an associated dungeon) is to run through the instances first, because instances will stop providing reputation gain at some point, while quests will give reputation no matter what your current reputation is. But do you really play the best way, or do you look head straight for those exclamation points, like Rylia does?Ask WoW Insider couldn't keep posting without a delicious diet of your questions -- so send 'em in to ask AT wowinsider DOT com! Thanks for reading, and we'll be back next week with another of your questions!

Welcome to Friday -- the end of another week and time for another edition of Ask WoW Insider, where we ask the questions you want answered! Last week, we talked about what the best healing class was and this week we're considering a similar topic: the best DPS class. Today's question comes from Stèphanò of Aggramar (US), who writes, simply: Which classes can dish out the most DPS and which ones make the least amount of DPS?Good question -- and I'm betting that our readers are all going to have completely different answers for you. Rogue? Hunter? Mage? Warlock? Readers, which class would you say does the best DPS in Azeroth and beyond?Ask WoW Insider loves getting your questions! If you have a question you'd like our readers to tackle, send them to ask AT wowinsider DOT com!

    04.13.2007

Gather 'round for the weekly edition of Ask WoW Insider, wherein we publish your questions for your peers to answer. This week brings us a bit of Friday levity care of Marlin: My friend came up with his top 10 ways to know you're addicted to WoW. I thought it was funny and figured others could possibly add to the list. Top 10 ways to know you play too much World of Warcraft: 10. You try to book a vacation in Azeroth. 9. You've ever planned to "raid" another department. 8. You consider work assignments "quests" and expect items and XP for completing them. 7. You have ever challenged a co-worker to a duel. 6. You want your paycheck in gold, silver and copper. 5. Your character is killed by a higher ranking enemy so you take a week off to "extract vengeance". 4. You have ever called in sick because your character died and you are in "mourning". 3. You have ever tried "hearthing" to escape work. 2. You've ever mistaken your supervisor for a class trainer and demanded new skills. 1. You refuse to answer to anything other than your WoW character's name. Big ups to Marlin's unnamed friend for the list, and now it's time to open the floor to you all to add to it. What are your signs of addiction? Remember people, there are only 12 Steps to recovery -- and if we could only find a tank and a healer we could all get through them together. Don't forget to send us your questions for next week -- hit us up at ask AT wowinsider DOT com.

    03.23.2007

It's time once again for our weekly edition of Ask WoW Insider, wherein we publish your questions and solicit your peers' feedback. This week's question comes from Marshall, who wants you all to introspect and fess up about why your class is overpowered: "I always see people in the comments (here and on the forums) talking about about how other classes are overpowered. What I want to know is, what class do you play, and why is your class overpowered? It goes without saying that I'm looking for honest answers here :)" Dig deep, self-examine and admit it: what makes your class overpowered? Without you, Ask WoW Insider is nothing. We desperately await your questions at ask AT wowinsider DOT com.

It's time once again for the weekly edition of Ask WoW Insider, wherein we choose one of your questions to publish for your fellow readers to answer. This week's question comes to us from Vince, who wants to know specifically your favorite priest sites, forums and blogs -- and more generally, your favorite stops for class-specific news: I've been a devoted WowInsider reader for almost a year, I think... you're one of the first stops I make on my daily tour of the internet. But I wonder if you know of any great priest forums or blogs I should be reading? Back when my main was a mage, I really enjoyed the Subcreation mage forum, but I haven't found anything similar for priests. There's far too much noise in the Blizzard priest forum. Any suggestions? Maybe this would be a good "Ask Wow Insider" topic, people could share the class-related blogs they like. Will you share your favorite priest and other class-specific sites with Vince and the rest of your WoW-loving peers? Please also share your questions with us at ask AT wowinsider DOT com, and each week we'll choose one to publish and kick off discussion.

  • Ask WoW Insider: Best way to get instance invites?

    03.09.2007

It's time for our weekly edition of Ask WoW Insider, wherein we publish one of your burning questions for the WoW Insider readers to answer. This week's question comes from David, who seeks advice on scoring an invite to an instance you haven't had any experience running yet: Ok, here's my question that I'm hoping gets a good response. For starters, I played WoW when it first came out and was a hunter then after getting to level 40ish I decided to reroll as a paladin and got to 50ish. Then I quit playing WoW until just recently with the newest Expansion. Any pointers on how to learn the new instances because it seems no one wants to invite someone that doesn't know the instance. Everytime, I try to get invited with my new character (neither paladin or hunter) I get kicked because I explain I just hit where I'm told and people don't seem to like that idea. Any pointers? Can you folks help an instance noob out? What are your tips and tricks for convincing a group you've got the goods despite not having seen the inside of the dungeon? Got questions? Send them to Ask WoW Insider at ask AT wowinsider DOT com; every week we'll choose one to publish for your peers to answer.

There are multiple solutions to this problem across platforms, so can you recommend your favorite to Dennis? • Ask WoW Insider: How does tier gear work?

    02.23.2007

Our question today at Ask WoW Insider concerns tiered gear and where to get it. Candide from Hallowed Arcana on Farstriders writes: "So as a new lvl 60, (Actually to 61 now)I have no tiered gear. Whats worse is I have no idea where to start. Do I need teir 1 through 5 gear before I can get teir 6? I have been playing WoW for a year now, but actual time played is only something like 20 days so in most things I am still a noob. My guild is usually very friendly and helpful but they are all working the run to 70 while im limping along at 61. Can you please expalin to me what gear I should look for, what tiered gear is, and where to get it. The whole tiered armor concept can be daunting to new players -- can you help Candide sort it out? Got questions? Hit us up at ask AT wowinsider DOT com; every week we'll pick one of your questions to publish and be answered by your peers.

  • Ask WoW Insider: What makes a WoW hero?

    Barb Dybwad
    02.16.2007

Today's Ask WoW Insider brings us a philosophical question to ponder and stroke our beards over (should you play a male avatar, or perhaps a dwarf female). Jesper, editor of Outland Post, wonders what it takes to become a real hero within the WoW community: I am currently writing about the possibilities of becoming a hero within the WoW community, both IC and OOC. With anti-heroes like Leeroy Jenkins in mind, I am discussing on my realm forum and let players post comments about this topic. Have you guys written anything about this that I might be able to read? Yes, you can become a hero in-game by completing certain quests or downing certain bosses, but what special achievements, attitudes, or accomplishments make one respected on one's realm or in the WoW community at large? What are your thoughts? And don't forget -- Ask WoW Insider needs you! Send us your questions for your peers to answer, and we'll choose one to publish every week. Send your questions to ask AT wowinsider DOT com. Thanks!

  • Ask WoW Insider: Aldor or Scryer?

    Barb Dybwad
    02.09.2007

We've explored the topic of the Aldors and the Scryers before, but reader Tetelestia gives us a great excuse to revisit this question of faction allegiance again now that we've had some time to spend in Burning Crusade. For this week's Ask WoW Insider, Tetelestia writes "I primarily play a horde character, and I want to make the best choice of allegiance for the quest in Shattrath city. As a noob coming up on my first character, I made the grave mistake of 'fighting' my way through to Winterspring. Mistake. I'd like to avoid that in BC, so I'm looking for readers input on which allegiance they took and why, instead of me just guessing." So, which faction did you choose to (or plan to) ally yourself with, and why? As ever, please don't forget to send us your questions for Ask WoW Insider to ask AT wowinsider DOT com. See you next week!

As we all know, some durids is bare and some is for fite. Today's Ask WoW Insider question comes from one o tehm durids interested in being more cat-like -- Corey asks: My main is, and always will be a Druid. I really enjoy the class and I try to focus mostly on a feral build since I like being able to DPS as a cat, and tank as a bear. Lately I have been searching for a spec that will give the best DPS output I can get, but haven't found that magic combination of talents yet. So I ask you... what is the best DPS spec for a druid? What say you, durids? Can you help this cat? Don't forget to send us your questions for Ask WoW Insider to ask AT wowinsider DOT com -- see you next week!

Jacob, being a sensible and pragmatic fellow, wants to know your tips and tricks for earning the dough for that flying mount: "What are some good ways of making money for levels 60-70 in Burning Crusade? 01.13.2007

It's time for this week's edition of Ask WoW Insider (yes, we usually post this on Friday, but blame Chicago for making us sit on a plane all day!). Last week you weighed in on the best duo for PVP or grinding. Our question today comes to us from Jason, aka Sentius: I am somewhat new to the game, been playing for about a month, just taking my time but getting into the game very much. I have already pre-paid for the expansion which is awesome! But I have a level 44 alliance mage, and I am wondering what are some good grind spots for him? I play with a few friends online, and when we are on, we like to do a good instance or run up a few quests... But mainly on solo time, we're out grinding trying to make some money... we are all broke since we got our mounts. So my question to you is, what are some good ideas for a level 44 mage to grind??? You heard the man -- help him out! And don't forget to keep sending us your questions for Ask WoW Insider to ask AT wowinsider DOT com.
