BlizzCon 2010: The first in the line, at 2 a.m.
If you have been to BlizzCon before, you'll know that one of the most epic things about the meetup isn't the panels or seeing Ghostcrawler tell a crowd of angry paladins, "Don't nerf me, bro!" Nay, the most epic thing about BlizzCon is the lines. Lines that wrap around the Anaheim Convention Center, lines that you wait in for hours, lines that let you meet hot night elf girls. Today, the WoW Insider crew ventured down to grab some Starbucks at the hotel near the convention center and we ran into the first people in line. What time did they get there, you ask? Meet Lucas, Kerry, and Wesley. They arrived and were sitting in line at 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning. For this epic feat, not only do they get their own post at WoW Insider, but also the distinctive honor of being the first to get their passes to BlizzCon 2010 and the first with their goodie bags. For those who are about to go wait in this epic line, it's already started and is getting larger. Blizzard staffers have been going around stamping barcode printouts, prechecking people in for faster passage through the line. It seems that Blizzard's staff has taken advantage of the knowledge they've gained from previous years and are making the process faster. BlizzCon 2010 is upon us! Win a ticket to BlizzCon 2010 from WoW Insider
Maintenance time is boring, but we've found a way to make it a little more exciting. WoW Insider has a BlizzCon ticket and you could win it! To enter for a chance to win, all you have to do is comment on this post before Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010 at 11:59 a.m. ET. We'll randomly pick a winner to receive one BlizzCon ticket. Of course, there are rules! In order to enter, you must be 18 years of age or older and a legal resident of the United States or Canada (excluding Quebec). You may enter only once. If you win, you must be able to pick up the ticket in person in Anaheim at the beginning of BlizzCon 2010. The ticket does not include hotel or airfare. Getting there and staying there is up to you. BlizzCon 48-hour sale access issues resolved
Blizzard has announced that access issues with the Blizzard store's 48-hour BlizzCon presale should be resolved now. This means that even if your BlizzCon ticket was purchased by someone else, you can still access the sale as long as your Battle.net account name was added to your ticket. If it wasn't, you're still out of luck, and you'll need to talk to your ticket buyer if you want to get a hold of some of this year's exclusive swag. Tenacious D performing at BlizzCon 2010
Blizzard announced today that Tenacious D will be performing at BlizzCon 2010. The pair will be performing the closing ceremonies, happening at the end of the event, Saturday evening. DirecTV subscribers and those getting the stream will be able to watch. Now for those of you who don't know about The D, well, I just feel sorry for you. Tenacious D is none other than the greatest band in the world. They know how to rock, how to roll and even eat up that classical sauce. Once you are in the presence of The D, you will no longer be just a normal human, but become something more ... something special ... something tenacious. What has The D done for you, you ask? They discovered Northrend. They invented the power of flight. They sang the greatest song in the world. And they even got you some food from Zanzibar. And they'll be performing at BlizzCon 2010. NBC's The Event giving away BlizzCon 2010 tickets
Miss out on your chance to get BlizzCon tickets this year? No worries -- NBC's The Event, an upcoming conspiracy thriller television series created by Nick Wauters, is giving away five pairs of tickets to BlizzCon 2010. You can enter at the sweepstakes page, and you can check out the official rules on the sweepstakes page as well. Unfortunately, the contest is only open to residents of the United States; however, for those who couldn't click quickly enough to purchase tickets, this is an opportunity to make it happen. Check out the sweepstakes page and make sure to get your entries in by Aug. 31!
BlizzCon 2010 virtual ticket on sale
For those unable to attend BlizzCon in Anaheim, California this upcoming October, DIRECTV will once again be broadcasting it all (mostly) live online for $39.95 USD. The virtual ticket has just gone on sale this evening so make sure you don't miss out. For you pet/mount collectors out there, this virtual ticket will get you the exclusive in-game item that BlizzCon attendees will be receiving (though we don't even know what it is yet). Last year one of the major complaints about the online stream was the fact that many panels were delayed or possibly not even shown at all due to having only one stream available for many panels happening simultaneously, but it looks like they have a solution for that in place this year. According to the RayV page describing the virtual ticket, coverage has been expanded to four online channels offering 50+ hours of BlizzCon programming with complete coverage of panels, tournaments and announcements plus DIRECTV's own exclusive interviews. Hopefully that means you can watch the events as they unfold rather than watching them on a delay or not at all.

The basic facts: Tickets go on sale for the second and final time at 1:00 p.m. EDT / 10:00 a.m. PDT sharp. Tickets are $150/each. You can purchase a max of 5 per household. Buy your tickets at the Blizzard store. Tips for buying your tickets. Complain about how expensive tickets are, how rogues are overpowered, and how Ghostcrawler has no choice but to walk out on a horse swinging a sword like a general over in our open thread. We'll update this post with queue lengths and ticket status information as warranted. Update: 1:00 PM EST - Tickets are on sale. Update: 1:01 PM EST - Within 60 seconds, the queue is at 20000. Make sure you're online and ready to go at the Blizzard Store or the BlizzCon website in the morning. If you can't score tickets, the DirecTV Pay Per View event might help satisfy your hunger for the Blizzard event. It's only $39.95 and you get access to the multi-channel internet stream. If you've purchased the internet stream, you can switch between a variety of channels to watch different areas of BlizzCon. In other words, you get watch the events you care about more than others!
Call for submissions: What makes BlizzCon worth the trip?
You stalked the Blizzard store page like a pro, refreshing constantly starting several minutes before the ticket sales opening, and you actually snagged the grand prize -- you nabbed a ticket to BlizzCon 2010! Now comes the hard part: justifying the time off school or work plus travel, hotel and expenses. What makes a fan event like BlizzCon worth all that time and money? What are you most looking forward to? What are you hoping to see or learn? Are there people you hope to meet there? We're looking for an article that explains what makes a con like BlizzCon worth its weight in purples. Is this event strictly for Blizzard fanbois? What type of player will get the most out of attending? Have you attended a past BlizzCon -- and what was your experience then? Your article should clearly explain why a trip to BlizzCon is worthwhile. We're not looking for unbridled cheerleading but rather for clear, rational reasons why BlizzCon is worth the time, money and effort for a dedicated World of Warcraft player. The basic facts: Tickets go on sale at 10:00 p.m. EDT / 7:00 p.m. PDT sharp. Tickets are $150/each. You can purchase a max of 5 per household. Buy your tickets at the Blizzard store. Tips for buying your tickets. Complain about how expensive tickets are, how rogues are over powered, and how Ghostcrawler has no choice but to walk out on a horse swinging a sword like a general over in our open thread. We'll update this post with queue lengths and ticket status information as warranted. 10:00 p.m. EDT: Ticket are on sale now. Ticket queue is immediate over 10,000. 10:02 p.m. EDT: Ticket queue is over 20,000. 10:08 p.m. EDT: Those lucky enough to have purchased a ticket already have consumed 25% of the ticket stock that's gone on sale today. 10:13 p.m. EDT: Ticket queue is over 30,000. Those who have been able to purchased tickets have consumed 50% of this round's available stock. 10:15 p.m. EDT: We estimate about 3,000 to 4,000 households have each purchased 1 to 5 tickets, consuming 50% of available stock. 10:21 p.m. EDT: 25% of the available ticket stock for this round remains. 10:23 p.m. EDT: All of the available ticket stock for this round has been sold out. A reminder to those planning on purchasing BlizzCon 2010 tickets: The first round of sales for tickets will be tomorrow, June 2 at 7:00 p.m. PDT/10:00 p.m. EDT. BlizzCon 2010 will be taking place Oct. 22-23 in Anaheim, California. Tickets are $150 each. For those unable to get tickets during tomorrow's window, there will be a second round of sales on Saturday, June 5 at 10:00 a.m. PDT/1:00 p.m. EDT. There is a five-ticket limit per household. For those unable to attend the convention proper, the DirecTV Pay Per View event will return in 2010 for $39.95, as well as the multi-channel internet stream of the event. For the first time, anyone who purchases the internet stream will be able to switch freely between multiple channels of coverage dedicated to different areas of BlizzCon, meaning viewers can tune in to the sections they're most interested in, rather than what they're stuck with. And, of course, WoW.com will be bringing you live blogs of everything and complete event coverage. For those planning to purchase tickets: This is your reminder. Make sure you're online and at the Blizzard Store or the official BlizzCon website tomorrow evening, play a few rounds of Failoc-alypse and hope your fingers are fast, because these tickets are sure to sell out within seconds.
Jay Mohr confirmed for BlizzCon 2010
Blizzard recently confirmed via a post on their official site that Jay Mohr will be hosting BlizzCon 2010 in Anaheim, California October 22nd and 23rd (we originally reported this via Jay's quickly deleted tweet back in February). Tickets go on sale for the event on June 2nd and June 5th for about as long as it takes to punt a gnome across the road. But if you don't get tickets, you can still catch Jay (and all the other glories that are BlizzCon) via the live internet stream. In my opinion, Jay has been doing a better job at BlizzCon each year he's hosted. Some people really don't like him, and that's okay -- he'll just make fun of it. Blizzard Entertainment Comedian and actor Jay Mohr will be returning to BlizzCon this year to serve as master of ceremonies for the live costume contest and other contests on the first night of the show. Jay is the star of the popular television show Gary Unmarried, and is known for his roles in movies like Jerry Maguire and for creating, producing, and hosting the successful TV series Last Comic Standing. We'll have more info to share about the Friday-night contests and other events at BlizzCon in the months leading up to the show, so keep your eye on BlizzCon.com for more details. source Update: The curious story of Mr. Jay Mohr at BlizzCon continues. Buff(ing) For BlizzCon: Carving out Caverns of Time and unarmed combat
Buff(ing) for BlizzCon is a bi-weekly fitness series written by ShrinkGeek authors Rafe Brox and Michael McGreevy. Join the WoW.com team in getting in shape for the ultimate WoW geek event: BlizzCon. We've all been there: bored in Storm Peaks, decked out in our blues and purples, and idly surfing through your achievements, when you realize that you need to give someone (or several someones) a knuckle sandwich in order to earn Master of Arms. Unequipping your weapon of choice (or eschewing your favorite spell rotation), you start slapping some unsuspecting rhinocerous or elemental. It takes a surprisingly long time to do that particular grind, especially if you're not built for melee combat. What the heck does this have to do with our bi-weekly sojourn into the realm of health and fitness? Without the right equipment and skills, even something simple is harder than you think it's going to be -- but with practice, it gets easier. Fortunately for us, we don't have to subject ourselves to a great deal of peril in order to gear up, and we can boost our skills during in-game downtime. This time around, Buff(ing) for BlizzCon will check in with the staffers who are on this particular quest to see what they're using and doing to help them reach their goals, and we'll offer a few suggestions of our own. We already know that if you're not doing anything at all, starting any kind of healthy eating and exercise routine will help. For those of you who have already gotten those under way -- keep on keeping on. For those of you who haven't, what are you waiting for? Extended maintenance?
BlizzCon 2010 tickets on sale June 2nd and June 5th for $150
BlizzCon 2010 tickets will be on sale Wednesday June 2nd at 7:00 p.m. PDT and Saturday June 5th at 10:00 a.m. PDT according to a Blizzard Press release. BlizzCon 2010 will be taking place October 22nd and 23rd in Anaheim, California. Tickets are $150 each, and will be purchased through the same Blizzard Store system used last year. The internet stream and the DirecTV package will be back this year for $39.95. There will be an in-game item this year associated with the the internet stream, the ticket, and the DirecTV package -- just like in previous years. However, details of what the item exactly is have not been announced yet.
Call for Posts: What I want to see at BlizzCon 2010
Last week we did a test run of our Guest Writer program asking our Twitter followers to write an article giving five tips to DPSers running random heroics. Our test run was a success (the winning article will be published later this week), and we're now ready to begin allowing everyone to have the chance to become a Guest Writer on WoW.com! WoW.com runs the program through Aol's Seed. You can find out more about the program in our announcement post about the Guest Writer program, and at our newly re-vamped Contributing to WoW.com page. This week we're looking for contributions from writers telling us what they want to see at BlizzCon 2010. We're looking for between 75 and 150 words, and we'll select 3 to 7 entries for publication on WoW.com. If your entry is selected, you'll be paid $10 through Seed. Last week we found out that BlizzCon could be returning to the Anaheim Convention Center and that Jay Mohr is hosting again. In order to get started read up about the program, sign up, and then submit your paragraph over on the article page (you can't see the article page unless you have a Seed account). We are accepting submissions until 11:59 p.m. EST on Sunday February 14th. Please follow all instructions exactly. Jay Mohr is hosting BlizzCon again
Love him or hate him, it looks like Jay Mohr is hosting BlizzCon again this year. Recently, we reported that the Anaheim Convention Center would be hosting BlizzCon toward the end of October. But there has been nothing official from Blizzard at this time. Of course, we will keep you up to date with any information we receive about BlizzCon in general and Jay's announcement in particular. Update 6:00pm: It looks like he has deleted the tweet.
BlizzCon 2010 tentatively scheduled for late October [Updated x2]
Just moments ago, we received an email from a reader notifying us that BlizzCon has been scheduled for October 22nd and 23rd at the Anaheim Convention Center. That's a Friday and a Saturday, which are historically the days of the week BlizzCon has run. As you can see above, the convention is indeed on the convention center's events calendar. We have confirmed with the Anaheim Convention Center that this booking is legit and is "99.9% confirmed," but I wouldn't run and arrange any travel plans just yet considering Las Vegas Convention Center confirmed that booking, too. We're reaching out to Blizzard for comment, and we'll let you know as soon as we hear anything else. Update: The listing has been removed from the convention center's events calendar, but it's preserved in the screenshot above. We will continue to keep an eye on the situation and will make updates as necessary. Update 2: Blizzard responded to our inquiry about the Anaheim Convention Center listing with this: "Blizzard Entertainment has not announced any details about the next BlizzCon. We recommend that players refrain from making any BlizzCon-related travel plans at this time."
BlizzCon 2010: Las Vegas Convention Center retracts statements
Update: It's looking like Anaheim again. For the past day WoW.com has been hard at work getting the story straight on the discrepancies between what the Las Vegas Convention Center was saying about BlizzCon 2010, and what Blizzard was saying. Until recently, the LVCC had been telling us, and others, who inquired that BlizzCon 2010 was being held there July 30th and 31st. Blizzard was, more or less, denying it. Given both organizations are quite large and reputable, this was quite a confusing situation. However as of this afternoon, the Las Vegas Convention Center emailed us to let us know that due to their human error, the confirmation they were giving was false. According to the LVCC, Blizzard and the LVCC had spoken once about having BlizzCon 2010 in Las Vegas, and a hold was placed on those dates as a marketing tactic to entice Blizzard to the area. However, that hold was inadvertently turned into a confirmed booking, leading to the inaccurate confirmations and resulting issues. The LVCC has apologized for the confusion, and thus ends the saga of BlizzCon in Las Vegas.
