We know that Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will feature a new mechanic called Gigantamaxing, which will turn certain creatures into giant forms and give them a special move. Today, Nintendo revealed the Gigantamax forms for some of the most popular Pokémon: Pikachu, Charizard, Eevee, Meowth and Butterfree.

Following up on a recent Nintendo Direct feature, Nintendo has released a new set of Super Smash Bros. screenshots showcasing Sheik, Yoshi and Zero Suit Samus alongside newly announced Pokemon challengers Greninja and Charizard. Nintendo outlined its plans for online play in Super Smash Bros. earlier this month, revealing that gameplay will be split between casual-focused "For Fun" and tournament-styled "For Glory" modes. Nintendo also announced that the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. will feature a new dungeon-diving Smash Mode that replaces the Wii U's traditional Adventure Mode. Super Smash Bros. will launch for the Nintendo 3DS this summer. A Wii U release will follow in the winter. [Image: Nintendo]

Super Smash Bros. will include the Pokemon Charizard and Greninja when it launches on 3DS this summer and on Wii U in the winter. Nintendo saved the announcement as an after-Direct snack, showing off Charizard and Greninja in a video following Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai's sign-off. Super Smash Bros. includes the Masterball, a shiny new form of a Pokeball with rare Pokemon inside. Nintendo also revealed a list of non-playable Pokemon that can be summoned during battle in today's Nintendo Direct: Meowth, Electrode, Evee, Staryu, Metagross, Fennekin, Meloetta, Gogoat, Entei, Deoxys, Palkia, Kyurem, Victini, Keldeo, Xerneas. Yeah, we read that like the Pokemon Rap, too.

Nintendo is notorious for releasing awesome limited edition hardware abroad, but here in the US of A, we tend to get the short end of the joystick. Case in point, the house that Mario Miyamoto built is releasing a Charizard-themed 3DS XL on December 15th in Japan for ¥18,900 ($237). Available exclusively at Pokémon Center stores, aspiring buyers will need to complete an order form and win (yes, win) a drawing for a chance to purchase one of these beautiful monsters. Winners will have from December 15th through January 14th to claim and purchase their prize. As for you unlucky entrants, you'll have the opportunity to indulge in one of America's favorite pastimes -- buying Nintendo collectibles online at an extremely high markup.

Now that the Pikachu 3DS XL is coming to Europe, it's time for Nintendo to taunt everyone with a new unattainable Pokemon system. The Charizard 3DS XL/LL above will be released in Japan on December 15 ... only in Pokemon Center stores, and only to people who send in an order form and then win the chance to buy it.The ¥18,900 ($237) handheld features Charizard's face and wings on the front, with a design that continues on the back of the unit, including a brightly colored flame. It looks pretty exciting, even if it'll all be upside down while you're playing.

Many of the characters in Super Smash Bros. Brawl have wings. Most things with wings (aside from, say, penguins, or emus, or certain kinds of fasteners) use their wings to fly. Apparently, someone at Sora figured out what wings do, and that none of the winged characters in Brawl are penguins or emus or wingnuts, and thus we have flight. The winged characters can glide, pulling up to lift up and down to dive, much like Mario with his cape. No, we don't know if Mario will have his cape in Brawl. We also don't know if any of the characters will be given anti-aircraft missiles to compensate for this new ability in others.

Go Nintendo has posted some pictures and a Japanese commercial of the upcoming Pokemon Ranger. What's most interesting about the commercial is the way in which injured Pokemon are captured to be housed away in a small plastic ball and enslaved for all of eternity. Rather than simply lobbing a pokeball at said Pokemon, now the player is charged with circling the creature with the stylus as fast as they can, over and over, eventually ensnaring it for their own personal collection. Also, the commercial shows that the stylus will come into play in regards to solving environmental puzzles. We envision using Pikachu's electric powers to power electrical controls for gates and the like or commanding Charizard lay fiery waste to a downed tree blocking the path. These new mechanics, along with the tried-and-true formula of past Pokemon titles, is sure to excite.
