Childish Gambino and Google team up for a multiplayer AR app
Google and Childish Gambino are teaming up again for another augmented reality experience. Following the arrival of the Coachella headliner as a Playmoji on Pixel cameras earlier this year, the pair have released a multiplayer app called Pharos AR. It allows you and your friends to explore a trippy, neon-tinged world with Gambino as the soundtrack.
Childish Gambino dances his way onto Pixel cameras
Coachella headliner Childish Gambino is down to dance with anyone, anywhere at any time. Kind of. From today, an interactive Playmoji (i.e. an AR sticker) based on him is available in Google Pixel's Playground mode, which is built into the camera.
YouTube will livestream both weekends of Coachella in April
YouTube is doubling down on its Coachella partnership -- it will stream live performances from both weekends for the first time this year. As has been the case in recent years, the service will stream the festival's first weekend, which takes place April 12th-14th. This time around, YouTube will host a "curated live experience" on the second weekend, including select performances, artist vignettes and behind-the-scenes footage.
Childish Gambino's latest vinyl release comes with a VR headset
Say what you will about the vinyl resurgence, but artists keep turning to the ancient media format to try out high-tech tricks. The latest in that trend is Donald "Childish Gambino" Glover, Pitchfork notes. When his Awaken, My Love! album from late last year lands at your local record store (or, more likely, an online retailer) on May 19th, it'll come packed with a cardboard VR headset and an app that gives access to live performances recorded in 360-degrees from Glover's "PHAROS Experience." Next week in London, you could even attend a VR screening party for the record if you're so inclined.
Harmonix and Hasbro's new card game mashes up hit music
The heyday of music games may have passed, but that hasn't stopped Harmonix from experimenting with new ways for you to experience your favorite tunes. Sure, there's a new Rock Band coming to VR, but for those who prefer something a bit more old school, the company's developing a new card game with toy company Hasbro. Dropmix is a music-mixing game about outscoring your opponent, building an awesome song collection and creating the dopest beats.
