  • Lunar Festival is up to its old tricks

Blizzard has previously told us that they plan to renovate as many of the holidays as possible, but from what we've seen so far, the Lunar Festival hasn't really recieved any of that love-- as Lodran says, players who've done the Lunar Festival quests in the pasts aren't finding anything new to do this year. Not that there's anything really wrong with that-- Omen is still out there to be taken down, and for a lot of people, Omen was the first raid boss they'd seen (in fact, he was the Horseman before there was a Horseman-- a seasonal boss, except that Omen didn't drop epic loot). And lots of people are still having fun running the old Lunar Festival quests and turning those in.But it is too bad there's nothing new yet. Guess we'll have to wait for Love is in the Air and Noblegarden to see if Blizzard's done any more seasonal updating. Love is in the Air and on WoW Insider. Check out our continuing coverage of the event and our guide to earning the achievement. And you better hurry; the holiday only lasts five days!

  • Forbes Fictional 15: Princess Peach at the bottom

Since when did Peach divorce Mario? Since when did Mario actually do something about the sexual tension between the two (other than in your disgusting desktop wallpaper of the two "getting down")? Regardless, Forbes has made up some wacky stuff regarding the princess of Mushroom Kingdom, ranking her at the bottom of its list of the richest fictional folks. With a net worth of $1.3 billion, we're wondering where Forbes came up with the conversion rate on coins. Considering they're naturally created from thin air and by the very blocks of earth that make up that fine kingdom, we would think the conversion to our real currency would be low. So, we can understand how her worth would be on the lower side, but did they look into real estate value also? Come on, her castle alone has to be worth a ton.

  • A look at new LotRO loot from 'The Rift'

TenTonHammer has posted a guide that looks at some of the loot from Lord of the Rings Online's new raid instance, 'The Rift of Nurz Ghashu', in which players get to band together to hunt down a poor defenseless Balrog. There will eventually be more parts to the guide, but this first installment examines the loot rewarded from handing in Rift-iron coins. The aforementioned coins are obtained by turning in ore from The Rift, and are then traded on for various items. Note that the coins are not used to get class-specific sets -- these will come from the dropped gems, covered in a future guide. The coins can be traded for some useful consumables, or other general armor pieces (which still look like fairly decent items). Almost all armor items will cost 2 coins, with the one exception being a 4-coin ring, and the consumables are between 1-2 coins each. It looks like even if you aren't lucky enough to get your hands on a gem during a raid, grabbing some ore to trade for coins can still net you some nice new shineys. The full list of coin loot, with stats and costs, is available via the link below.

  • Hacking a CoinStar machine to bypass transaction fees

We've seen a number of somewhat innocent (and equally wily) hacks that save the little man a dime or two, but never quite so literally as this one. CoinStar machines -- best known for charging a whopping nine percent or so for the convenience of counting our coins for us -- have apparently been outsmarted, making the green machine convert your coins to dollars gratis (without going through the process of getting a gift card). Hit the read link to find out more.[Thanks, Joe]Update: Upon reflection, we probably shouldn't go into the gory details of how its done -- but it's nothing so mind-blowing (except for its potential illegality -- you wouldn't tamper with an ATM, would you? This ain't much different.). Or you can, you know, do the right thing and just take an Amazon gift cert and not have to live a look-over-your-shoulder kind of lifestyle.

There's a party going on tomorrow and the Tanooki got a sneak preview of the decor. It's a full-on Super Mario themed bash, complete with all the stuff you'd expect to find in a Mario game. This fantastic Chain Chomp piñata is just waiting to be smashed, hopefully by a jumping kid in a Mario costume. Seriously, if there's an invite going free, we'd love it.Head past the break for the giant Pirahna Plants and chocolate coins!

  • Remember Pokemon? They're back ... in pog form!

Well, not pogs exactly, but somewhat less-exciting pog-like pucks that are still a lot more fun-looking than the usual cards used in Japanese arcade games. Pokemon Battrio is a new arcade game created by Tomy that allows 3-on-3 Pokemon Battle Revolution-style battling against random arcadegoers! In Japan, obviously, since there are no arcades in the US.Here's how (it looks like) it works: you buy random packs of coins, each one corresponding to a Pokemon. Then you set them down on the machine, the machine "senses" your coins, and then they appear, ready for battling! Then some older kids run by and steal your coins.

  • Location of all 50 Lunar Coins

Mosh on the WoW Europe boards has provided the locations of all 50 coins that need to be gathered at the Lunar Festival. I still need the Stratholme coin and the Thunder Bluff coin, and those will be tough since I'm trying to solo them all. I'll hopefully be picking those up later today, and receive the unending adulation that is my due.
