It's taken more than a decade, but GTR 2, the game rightly lauded as one of the best racing sims ever, is getting a sequel. The game's existence was announced via the Race Department forums (spotted by Eurogamer), and will launch next year for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. While GTR 2 shot for accurate simulation, though, developer SimBin Studios UK is shooting for a broader audience with GTR 3. Chris Speed, the CEO of SimBin's parent company Sector3, said the game will be a "proper simulation" but "needs to appeal to both sides" to succeed on consoles. Speed pointed to recent F1 games as an example of a way to appeal to the "hardcore racer" and the "casual gamer."

When Nicolas Hamilton was born, two months premature, his family was told he would never walk. He had a form of cerebral palsy that would cause a constant stiffness in the lower half of his body. By the age of 11 he was restricted to a wheelchair, but that didn't stop him from wanting to become a race car driver. He had direct exposure to a Formula One world champion in the family: His elder half brother, Lewis Hamilton, went from casual karting on the weekends to winning three F1 championships.

  • GTR dev threatens legal action against Need For Speed: Shift team

There's some bad blood in the sim racing world. The recent announcement that Need For Speed: Shift was being worked on by Slightly Mad Studios, which, according to the release, "includes developers and designers that worked on ... GT Legends and GTR 2," may have seemed innocuous enough. But it's led to the threat of legal action from SimBin, the company credited with making those games. In an email we received recently, Magnus Ling, Executive Vice President at SimBin Studios AB said his company "is taking legal advice and considering to also take legal actions against Slightly Mad Studios, as a result of certain statements made by Slightly Mad Studios that we find to be incorrect, misleading and has a negative impact on our reputation as well as business negotiations."When asked about the statement, Slightly Mad Studios boss Ian Bell was quick to respond, calling the assertions "absurd" and saying "more than 25 of Slightly Mad Studios' current staff worked on and are actually credited in GT Legends and GTR2 including the majority of the core development team ... It saddens me when fellow developers make inappropriate statements like this in public but I think the fact that the first I heard of it was from you says everything you need to know about the credibility of the claims. Had there been any merit to them I am sure I would have heard sooner."Ling declined to comment further for the story until SimBin "finished reviewing the case together with [its] solicitors" and Need For Speed publisher EA has not yet commented. Regardless, this doesn't seem like it's over by a long shot. We'll let you know what we hear.

Woohoo! Woohoo! Woohoo! Can't you just feel the excitement? Our friends over at Gamertag Radio just released their Xbox Community Awards 2007 episode and we actually won! You, your friends and our extended family voted for our Fancast and we took home GTR's coveted Podcast of the Year award beating out some rather high profile podcasts including Cheapy D's CAGcast. What an honor! Thanks a bazillion to every fanboy who voted and support our Fancast with weekly subscriptions and downloads. Without you, nobody would listen to us and that's 100% factual truth. And to those who told us that we'd never amount to anything and that our Fancast would only be listened to by chimps, we laugh at you. You probably didn't know that it's a scientifically proven fact that Chimps are excellent voters and suffer from OCD. Ha! Seriously guys, thanks so much!

  • Fanfight: X3F vs. GTR in Halo 3 -- Recap

Last night, two blogging worlds collided when X3F took on Gamertag Radio in a Halo 3 8v8 duel-de-force. The matches were frantic, the smack talk was thick and the testosterone exuded from all sixteen gamertags. You could tell that a bitter war was about to be unleashed.X3F and GTR teams both met up in a David Dreger hosted room, each choosing a team color. GTR went with old school blue (which we now call "boring blue") and we went with something a little more lively and exciting ... pink. With color decisions behind us we were infromed that GTR was missing one of their players, so they quickly decided to pick someone up from Godfree's friends list. We weren't sure what all the hubbub was all about, but Godfree mentioned something about needing their "secret weapon" and not knowing where he was. We simply shrugged, accepted GTR's replacement and with our colors chosen, both teams agreed on a set of rules. We agreed to decide on a Fanfight winner by doing a best out of three, starting off with Valhalla, Team Slayer, first to 100. Then, the losing team would choose the second match's gametype / map and the same would go for the third. Everyone buckled in, took a deep breath and we began our Fanfight.

Godfree and the GTR crew posted up their coverage of the Street Trace NYC Community Event in New York City (naturally). They've got a variety of flavors, such as Episode #98 of their weekly podcast, the above video, or the slew of pictures from the event. All in all it was a big success, and apparently had some the best pizza Godfree's ever had the pleasure of eating. We're green with envy, as we're geographically challenged in regards to NYC based events and we love us some pizza. So give it a watch, listen or look, and hopefully you'll enjoy the game itself once it hits Xbox Live Arcade soon.

So, have you played Jetpac Refuelled? Did you like it? By chance, did you like it, but not quite enough to spend 400 points on it? Maybe you just like free stuff. If any of this applies to you, head on over to Gamertag Radio, where Godfree and the gang are giving away a free copy of Jetpac Refuelled. Entering the contest is a snap, but you'll have to head over there for yourself to find out how. Hit the "read" link for the complete lowdown. Don't forget to tell GTR who sent you.

Gamertag Radio is running a contest and giving away five copies of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. As in previous GTR contests, all you have to do is play an arcade game in GTR's arcade section. For this contest, the game is Breakout. After January 12th, the top 5 highest scoring players will receive a copy of Lost Planet. As usual, this contest is a great way to kill time when you should be working or studying. Think of it as your own way to stick it to the man (with the added bonus of possibly winning something in the process). If there's a better way of fighting the establishment, we don't know what it is. Go check it out, and make sure to tell us if you win.

  • Enjoy Pac-Man, get a free wireless headset

Gamertag Radio is giving away two, count 'em, two Xbox 360 wireless headsets. If you'd like a shot at one of them, all you have to do is be very good at Pac-Man. The best thing is that this is web-based Pac-Man at the GTR arcade, so you can even play from work (which we totally don't condone)! The headsets will be given to the top 2 Pac-Man players on the GTR leaderboard. You'd better hurry though, the contest is over on November 14th. It's not every day that you get a chance to win something just for playing games, so you might as well give it a shot (of course, you could enter our contest, too). If you're interested in a free wireless headset, head over to GTR (make sure to register) and play some Pac-Man.

Oh, how we have waited for this day. Our good friends at Gamertag Radio have nominated little old us, Xbox 360 Fanboy, for the 2006 Xbox Community Awards. What's more, we're nominated in two different categories. So, if you feel that Xbox 360 Fanboy is the best 360 news site or the best 360 blog (or both!), head over to GTR and vote. You'll have to register for their forums to participate, which is a fairly painless process. We'd like to thank GTR for the nod, and we'd also like extend our congratulations to the other nominees -- including some of our favorite contributors like MyGamercard.net, Piñata Island, Gearheads of War, ILoveXBLA.com, XBLArcade.com, and The Xbox Domain. See the complete list at Gamerscore Blog.Last year's award ceremony hosted the likes of TriXie, TeamXbox, the PMS Clan, and even bald headed wunderkind, J Allard. Godfree and the gang are promising that this year will hold a few surprises as well. So, go vote for us and stay tuned for the show coming this December. We promise here and now that if we win, we won't refer to you, our readers, as "the little people" in our acceptance speech.
