As you may recall, Upper Deck recently announced the March of the Legion tour, a series of tournaments against their own legionnaires for fabulous prizes. They've updated the tour page today with information on the first leg of the tour, including the identities of the legionnaires and the places they'll be visiting, including Northern California, Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Philadelphia, Florida, Michigan, and Ontario (Canada). The events last through June, so there's sure to be more locations and dates added later. The legionnaires are no slouches, though. We're talking lead developers and high class judges for the TCG here, so it sounds like you'll have your work cut out for you if you want to win yourself a Varimathras extended art card and a Leeroy Jenkins T-shirt by defeating them. Of course, as mentioned, just showing up gets you that Weeble extended art card, and it sounds like the event should be fun. Let us know how it goes if you show up to one!

  • WoW TCG March of the Legion Tour coming to hobby shops this April

Here's some fun news for our TCG players. Upper Deck reveals a new March of the Legion Tour coming to various North American hobby stores this month. WoW TCG team members will be coming to the stores and playing against all comers at sealed deck tournaments at each stop. Anyone who beats one of these "Legionnaires" will win a Varimathras extended art card and a Leeroy Jenkins T-shirt. Everyone who stops by will get Weeble extended art card (I approve of cute Gnome Warrior chicks, but how is she a protector if she's dual wielding? Learn to use a shield, newb). It sounds like the events should be fun. I'm actually liking the Varimathras card, if only because he's one of my favorite shady characters in WoW lore thus far, and I cannot wait for the day that he assassinates the Dark Lady and uses his loyal pawns, the Deathstalkers and Defilers, to take over the Undercity and rule with an iron fist as the new supreme ruler of Lordaeron. But I digress. Anyway, it look like it should be a good time for all you TCG fans.

  • The Daily Grind: Your favorite gamer term

It could be because you saw it in an online comic (like the awesome MacHall comic to the right) saw a friend using it, picked it up from a forum, or just are amused by the pop-culture nature of it all. But there are some phrases that have become part and parcel of MMO language. There are a lot of non-WoW playing people who know just what you mean when you yell "Leeeroyyy Jennnkinnns" or when you start saying "throw more dots, more dots" (note: NSFW language in videos) We see it in-game, hear it at conventions, and we may even use it ourselves -- generally among friends or guildmates who won't look at us funny for it. But we wanted to ask -- what kinds of gaming phrases have made their way into your conversations? Do you have any particular terms you've adopted and made your own catch-phrase?

  • Ask Massively: And now for something completely different...

The inexorable march of time has once again brought us to another installment in the great MMO knowledge repository known as Ask Massively. It seems that we have received a lot of questions of a philosophical nature in recent weeks. Since I'm an "all work and no play..." kind of guy, I thought we might take things in a completely new direction this week. Note: By "All work and no play..." I'm referring to a rather banal cliche regarding the necessity of balance in one's personal and professional lives and not a certain movie where Jack Nicholson plays a writer who goes completely off his rocker. No sirree, I'm completely mentally stable and don't have the slightest desire to choke the life out of... Sorry, where was I?Oh yes. This week, I'd like to explore the more whimsical side of World of Warcraft, and other MMORPGs as well. Our question comes from my guildmate and good friend Muskulls who wondered aloud in guild chat one day.How many times will I die if I take a level 5 character to every flightpath on all three continents? The answer, in case you're wondering is around 90. However the question isn't as important as the underlying issue that it brings to my mind. Have you ever "walked away" from the storyline given to you in a game and done your own thing?

All the World's a Stage is a source for roleplaying ideas, suggestions, and discussions. It is published every Sunday evening. You've probably heard that no story is completely original, that everything is copied from somewhere, and nothing anyone ever thinks or says is really unique. It's an awfully pessimistic way of looking at the creative endeavor, but there's a degree of truth in it.Any time you make up a new character, you are sure to be inspired by something you observed somewhere else. Perhaps you wondered, "What if there were a dwarven rogue, whose personality was a mix between Sherlock Holmes and Jack Sparrow?" or "My undead warrior is a lot like Frankenstein's monster, not evil so much as tragically neglected and rejected. He also likes to play with dolls." All this is fine and good for roleplaying, as long as you recognize the essential differences between your character and his or her inspirational anscestors. After all, every creative endeavor basically consists of mix-and-matching pre-existing knowledge in new and useful ways. In the same way a painter doesn't need to invent new colors, color palettes, or even new color matching techniques to make an beautiful, a storyteller doesn't need to create entirely new characteristics for each character in his or her story, only mix-and-match qualities real people already have in order to create someone compelling and interesting for other characters to interact with. Pretty well anyone who has ever been in a party quest, or on a raid in an MMO has a story of this nature to share. In time they become the center of in-jokes in your group of friends, or guild. The truly spectacularly silly ones can even go on to become Internet history. Today, we'd like to hear about your funniest wipes! Just what went wrong? Or, for that matter, what went right when it came to making them so funny?

  • An argument for random battles

After writing about the upcoming Concerto Gate here, I started thinking about the random battle aspect, and how my first reaction was to deride it. Then I started thinking about the current state of pre-planned, visible enemy encounters, and what that does to player expectation. When you wander around in, say, WoW, with the possible exception of PvP areas, there's almost no such thing as a surprise attack. You can see your opponents, attack them first, even avoid enemies you know will trounce you. This lends itself to a more planned, bloodless approach to combat. Sure, it's still fun, but think for a moment of the challenge of being suddenly beset by a hidden enemy.

A player decided to take a school assignment and turn it into a World of Warcraft machinima piece. In it, he explains what an MMOG is, as well as various aspects of WoW. Just like the title of the film states, it's a good introduction to Warcraft. It's very well done with lots of music, humor, good editing and beautiful 1 minute intro showcasing various zones in Azeroth. Don't miss the Leeroy Jenkins reference, the examples of the perils of Voice Chat or the Village People music under the credits.Final Grade: A+!Previously on Moviewatch...

I have to admit, when I saw this particular video come up on the WoW LJ community, I couldn't believe my eyes. But sure enough, it appears that Toyota has figured out that World of Warcraft is a good way to attract the attention of tons of folks. Anyone who has ever seen the original Leeroy Jenkins video knows what they're trying to draw a correlation to. I'd also be willing to bet whoever designed this plays WoW themselves. In any case, I would bet that it won't be long before we hear "Four wheels of FURY!" and "I am the LAWGIVER!" all over the place. Previously, on Moviewatch...

Clearly an homage to Leeroy Jenkins, this Toyota commercial shows that World of Warcraft players can charge into battle as long as they have the right mount. The ad is apparently legitimate, although the only version we could find clips the tagline.Toyota may be a follower to showing how it can save the World ... of Warcraft, but this spot hits several in-jokes in a short amount of time. See the ad after the break.[Thanks, Mal F4cti0n and raffleski]

I know what you're thinking. You've been playing World of Warcraft since release and the Leeroy jokes are starting to wear just the teensiest bit thin. But I have to say that even I laughed at this video (a promo for this year's Video Game Awards) and I'm not sure I found Leeroy terribly funny the first time around.

If this isn't immortality, I don't know what is. In the latest chapter in the saga of Leeroy Jenkins (and if you don't know who that is, just give up now), it seems everyone's favorite raid wiper will now be honored with his very own card in the upcoming WoW Collectible Card Game. The card will apparently be a special card that will be used as 'a reward or a prize', according to this announcement over at WarcraftCardGame.com, a blog dedicated to the development of the game. You can view the official Leeroy art by following the link. You think the guys who originally made that video had any idea the joke would go this far? God, I hope not.

Remember that raid-leader who, during a run at World of Warcraft's dragon-boss Onyxia, managed to exhaust his daily allotment of f-bombs? Nope? Y'know, the "50 DKP MINUS" guy? Yeah, now you remember. Wagner James Au, from arch-blogging faction Kotaku, tracked down Dives and asked him some colorful questions, like:"Where did you learn to swear in English? You swear like an American. When Europeans and Asians swear in English, they usually do it wrong ...?"... and ..."Do you remember the fall of Ceausescu? You must have been 8 or 9, right?"And got some colorful responses to other questions, like:"I have visited most countries in Europe, including having intercourse with girls from most countries in Europe. It was a project of mine at one point."... and ..."Well, I'll make some T-shirts. 'Dives yelled at me and all I got is this T-shirt', and stuff like that."I'd buy that shirt. Seriously, Dives, I smell a money-making enterprise here. Team up with Blizzard and get those things made.
