Garmin outs motorcycle-centric zumo 350LM
Garmin's torn the wraps off its zumo 350LM for those of you who prefer to zip around on two wheels. Though its 4.3-inch glove-friendly touchscreen is encased in a waterproof exterior to withstand a beating from the elements and "fuel sprays," it'll happily sit inside your car with an included mount and built-in speaker. Those sticking to motorcycles, however, can pipe turn-by-turn voice-guided navigation through the sunlight-readable device to compatible Bluetooth headsets or helmets. Stat-happy bikers can record their chopper's maintenance work with the service history log feature and use Garmin's Basecamp utility to plan out trips beforehand. The zumo's expected to ring up at $699.99 -- as pricey as its older siblings -- and roll out in the third quarter of 2012.%Gallery-157014%
TomTom rolls out Urban Rider motorcycle GPS
We didn't get a glimpse of this one when we checked out TomTom's new Go Live 1000 navigation unit earlier today, but the company has also just introduced a new GPS device for motorcycle enthusiasts: the Urban Rider. This one sticks fairly close to the company's previous RIDER units, but apparently simplifies even further with a revised interface designed to allow easier operation with gloved hands -- yeah, you can bet this screen is resistive. Otherwise, you can expect features like TomTom's IQ Routes and Map Share, along with advanced lane guidance, and a promised six hours of use from the battery -- that larger battery comes at the expense of an SD card slot this time around, though. No word on a release over here just yet, but this one will be available in Europe next month for €249 (or about $330).
Garmin's zūmo 660 motorcycle GPS shipping this month
Hot on the heels of Mio's introduction of its C523 V2 motorcycle-centric navigator comes good news for American bikers. Garmin's zūmo 660, which was originally announced at CES with a monstrous $800 price tag, is apparently set to ship before the end of this month. Aside from the widescreen design, advanced Junction and 3D building views, Bluetooth connectivity, large-format keyboard, the device also includes a 4.3-inch sunlight-readable panel, ruggedized and waterproof chassis and a built-in feature that hunts down other obnoxiously loud exhaust pipes. Yeah, we're just kiddin' on that last part, but at least you'll have this bad boy before you make the trek to Myrtle Beach next month and Sturgis in August.[Via I4U News]
Mio's C523 V2 navigator aims to route motorcyclists
Not that it's impossible to find a GPS for motorcyclists or anything, but your options are certainly limited. Mitac's Mio branch is looking to give hog and crotch rocket riders one more alternative with the 4.3-inch C523 V2, a somewhat varied version of the 2007 original. The included "rider mode" supposedly enables motorcycle riders to not spend as much time glancing at the screen, though we suppose the tweaked interface could still work for folks in traditional motorcars. Crazily enough, the unit also supports 1seg digital TV tuning in Japan, though we wouldn't recommend checking out your favorite programming whilst dodging those much, much larger automobiles whirring around you. Pricing is set for ¥44,800 ($446), but there's no indication of when (or if, even) this will head stateside.[Via NaviGadget]
