Phosphor Games, developer of the atmospheric The Dark Meadow, will launch its new game Horn with Zynga as publisher. Horn is a third-person action game that at first glance draws some inspiration from Team Ico games, but is said to be loosely based on the "Old English tales of King Horn."Horn has been announced for iOS, but don't be surprised to see it make its way to other mobile platforms in time (it was just showcased on Google's Nexus 7 tablet today during a press conference). Play time is pegged at 10 hours, and will be paired with a soundtrack by Journey's Austin Wintory. There is currently neither a release date nor price.%Gallery-159243%

It's true what The Grand Wizard says, you know, anything really can happen on Halloween. To prove it, Phosphor Games is dropping the price of its excellent, creepy iPhone adventure, The Dark Meadow, to $2.99 from now until Oct. 31. What's that you say? A timed discount isn't proof of Halloween magic? Well, what if we told you the game was also getting an update in addition to the price cut, including 4S optimization, multiple save slots and a whole list of improvements we've got after the break? Now do you believe? No? What's wrong with you? Have you no heart? Also: Has anybody seen my tambourine?

Did you know that you can download handheld games now? That's amazingly convenient! The only inconvenient part of it is finding the right games to buy -- and that's where we come in, with our Portabliss column. In each installment, we'll tell you about a downloadable game on the iPhone, iPad, Android device, DSi, 3DS, PSP, etc. Today: The Dark Meadow. There are really two kinds of influence in the emerging mobile game market. On the one hand, you've got the sort of race-to-the-bottom developers that attempt to copy whatever's successful to a note, never bringing anything of their own to the equation. But the really exciting thing is seeing smart devs take a page from a game that works and build on it, while never directly copying. Phosphor Games' The Dark Meadow is firmly in the second camp, taking its lead from Infinity Blade, but inventing a few new steps of its own.

If you know the name Phosphor Games Studio at all, it's likely because the teaser for its upcoming superhero action game, Awakened, made a big impression on you. But you'll have something much more concrete to remember the studio by this month, when The Dark Meadow heads to iOS. Get your first look in the teaser above. In the Unreal-powered first-person game, you'll try to survive the perils of an abandoned hospital armed only with a sword and crossbow. When you're not flicking and swiping bad guys to death, your skills of observation will be tested as you roam the hospital halls, trying to hunt down a beautiful witch whose death is the secret to your escape (Sounds like my third marriage! Try the veal!).

We were all set to do a crushingly sad post about "Hero," a really interesting Midway project that got swallowed up by the company's financial woes. (Watch a clip of it here.) ... See? Sad -- right? But before you shed too many tears know that there's one heck of a silver lining: Much of Hero's development team has reformed as Phosphor Games and has begun work on a similarly heroic project called Awakened. Check out this Gamasutra interview with studio head Chip Sineni for the full story. It's early yet -- the game doesn't even have a publisher -- but the concept of a fully customizable super hero and the really stunning trailer we've got for you after the break have allowed us to magically transform our depression into gut-wrenching anticipation. Sure, it's kind of a lame super power, but we figure we have to start somewhere.
