  • Capcom offers 50% off five PSN games; this week: Marvel vs. Capcom 2

While it's true that the high-rolling blogging lifestyle has left us out-of-touch with the needs of the unwashed masses, even the fat cats at Joystiq understand that everyone loves a deal (if only to free up some much needed capital for, let's say, a chronically underfunded game publishing division). To help lighten the burden on your wallets, Capcom is offering the following: 50% off a single PSN game every week for five weeks, beginning with Marvel vs. Capcom 2. In total you could scoop up all five games for just under $30 and, since this is a 50% off sale, that also means you'll have saved just under $30. That's math. We've pasted the full list below for you to mull over: February 18, 2010 – Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for $7.49 February 25, 2010 – Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix for $7.49 March 4, 2010 – Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix for $4.99 March 11, 2010 – Age of Booty for $4.99 March 18, 2010 – 1942: Joint Strike for $4.99

  • The Street Fighter II HD Remix intro that never was

We're sure everyone likes the redrawn, high definition art featured in Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, but did you know that Udon also redrew the original SSFII intro sequence? It's true, and Capcom Unity has the video to prove it. After the break, you'll find the intro movie that Udon created, though it never made it into the actual game. The video features Ryu doing his fireball thing, while Chun-Li poses and Cammy (for some reason) gives everyone a raspberry. Watch the redrawn trailer and the original after the break.

Attention all stat-loving digital pugilists, the official stat tracking site for Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is now live for both the XBLA and PSN versions. The site lets players view plenty of stats that aren't available on the regular leaderboard, including ranking, rating, wins, losses and perfects. It even tracks the number of throws and projectiles used. Stats can be viewed for all characters combined or for individual characters, and you can also compare your stats with another player. Finally, you can prove to all your friends that they're nothing but turtling, fireball spamming jerks. FYI, it seems like the server is getting hammered by stat fiends right now, as we've been unable to bring up our own stats all day.[Via Capcom Unity]

  • XBLA Awards: Braid can't rewind loss to Castle Crashers

Castle Crashers recovered from a 4-month gimp to be crowned the Xbox Live Arcade "Game of the Year" in the second annual community voting awards. Somewhat surprisingly, Castle Crashers also managed to nab "Best Co-op Mode" despite being virtually unplayable online for four out of its seven months in release. On its way to top honors, The Behemoth's beat-em-up notably beat out its fellow indie nominee, Braid, which was famously dismissed by an American youth spokesperson.Braid's losing streak continued in the "Best Single Player Game" category, which was claimed by Orange Box cutout Portal: Still Alive (oh right, it has "exclusive" challenge maps), but Jonathan Blow's timeless effort did mange to win "Best Innovation" amid stiff competition. (We were certain Kefling's innovative "use of Avatars" was a shoo-in.)The complete list of awards and recipients is posted after the break.

  • Capcom not done with HD Remixing

Capcom's talking about HD remixing some more titles following the success of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. Capcom VP Christian Svensson tells VideoGamer that not every game needs it, but the company is going to "potentially" apply the formula to other fighting games in the company's catalog. Next time, however, it plans do it "better, based on what [it] learned" -- which we'll take to mean cutting down development time. When asked if Marvel vs. Capcom 2 would be HD-ified, Svensson commented that it's probably the title fans request the most, but he has no news to share about that. We know retro Mega Man is en vogue, but an HD remix of Mega Man 2 could be interesting.%Gallery-9066%

There you'll be able to check out some contributions from Udon, the wonderful folks behind SSFIITHDR, and enjoy some of the festivities going down outside of looking at art. These activities include: Cosplay contest (show up in cosplay, get 15% off store purchases, excluding already discounted goods) Street Fighter IV tournament hosted by EVO (first place wins a cool $500) Raffle (free ticket for first 100 guests, $1 each after that) Free refreshments Music by Ronikus Sounds like a good time. • Street Fighter II HD coming to Europe this week

We've just received word from Capcom that the ever-elusive Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will finally be available in Europe this week. It'll arrive this Thursday during the normal PSN update and will cost you £11.99/€14.99. The high-def remake arrives just one day before Street Fighter IV. Jolly good show. Considering that IV is such a return to form for the series, is there really any point in grabbing both? Especially when Play.com is selling it for less than £30. Bargain!

The Capcom games to be featured include: Street Fighter IV Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (single and teams) Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 Street Fighter III: Third Strike (2 vs 2 teams) Tatsunoko Vs. We're still holding out hope that it'll get localized some day, as unrealistic as that may be.[Via Capcom Blog]

After typing Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix so many times, we finally swore to ourselves that we would never, ever buy the game. But those of you less familiar with digit strain should know that Capcom is working on a patch to eliminate any problems you may have encountered in your purchase.Capcom isn't currently offering any hints as to what boo-boos it'll be bandaging, but we'd bet you'll see more than a couple of the problems on this fan-compiled list getting Tiger Uppercutted.

  • Rumor: SCEE blocks Street Fighter HD release due to 'faults and other problems'

Go figure. Although American players have been able to enjoy Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix for quite some time now, European PS3 owners have been left in the dark. We've heard the cries before: "blame Sony," they'd say.thePSN.co.uk had a chat with Capcom UK Leo Tan [Update: Leo Tan has denied making the comments, while thePSN has professed to name-checking "the wrong person at Capcom."] to find out why SCEE is denying release of the game. According to the alleged representative, Capcom has already submitted the game to SCEE twice. However, SCEE is declining release of the game, noting "faults and other problems." Supposedly, the game must be "redone."Capcom is working on yet another version to submit to SCEE "within three weeks." We find it quite strange that, in spite of a successful release in the US, Sony's European counterpart has become the sole roadblock in this game's worldwide release. Certainly, there must be some reason for the constant delays.%Gallery-9057%[Thanks, Alex E.!]

Super Street Fighter II HD Remix, according to associate product manager John Diamonon, has sold in excess of 250,000 copies and is "on its way to becoming the highest grossing digital title ever." Diamonon states that the game has already broken both day one and week one records -- the game debuted November 25 and 26 on PSN and XBLA, respectively -- and he adds that the game is likely to best the 30 day record as well. Diamonon proceeds to thank everyone involved, stating that the game was "a labor of love for everyone involved" and then thanks the fans themselves for keeping the title "relevant" for well over a decade. There's a lesson here, kids. Nostalgia sells, but high definition nostalgia really sells.

"It's on its way to becoming the highest grossing digital title ever." Calling the game "a labor of love for everyone involved," Diamonon thanked ... everyone involved. Oh, and like truly classy end credits, he thanked you, the player.

If you've been playing (deep breath) Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix lately, chances are you've been positively rocking out to the revamped soundtrack. As it turns out, Capcom actually partnered with Overclocked Remix, a website that specializes in remixing game music, to create the soundtrack for SSFIITHDR. Gamers from all over the planet supplied the tracks for the soundtrack, and now OC Remix is giving away the entire soundtrack for free. That's precisely zero dollars. The soundtrack is being offered both as a full album download and as individual MP3s of each track. So, head over to OC Remix and get yourself some free music.Note: As of this writing, we've had trouble getting the OC Remix site to load.[Via Capcom-Unity]

  • Super Street Fighter II HD looks slightly less appealing, to some

Maybe it's just us but Super Street Fighter II HD Remix looks hella pretty. Pretty perfect, actually. Unfortunately some videophiles may not agree as news has come out that SSFIIHDR upscales in-game character sprites and crops backgrounds when played in 16:9 wide screen. According to notorious pixel counters Digital Foundry, SSFIIHDR is scaling characters and cropping backgrounds because the game was developed to be played old school, that is to say using 4:3 aspect ratio. While we like our games pretty we just don't see enough issue and it becomes even less apparent while you're playing the game. Videophiles have a right to know, though. [via GamersGlobal]

After its official announcement well over a year ago, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is finally landing on Xbox Live Arcade. For the always controversial price of 1200 Microsoft Points, you get a completely redrawn cast of characters and a while slew of reworked backgrounds. Let's not forget the game comes with some revamped tunes as well. Oh, and of course there's the (reportedly) improved netcode too, which will hopefully smooth out those online wrinkles.Go get the trial game and tell us what you think. Was it worth the wait? For that matter, is it worth the scratch? Basically, is it the best around?

Blessed be this day, for soon we may never have to type out "Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix" again. Optimistically, it's just this PSN post, maybe one tomorrow about the Xbox 360 version on XBLA, and hopefully one more after that when Capcom finally announces the PSN European release. What certainly should not be overlooked in today's update is the PSN price promotion that offers excellent titles like PixelJunk Eden and echochrome at a measly $5 -- for a limited time! The full North American update can be hadoukened after the break.
