Sam and Max may have gone beyond the boundaries of time and space in their latest series of episodic adventures, but does that mean they must also travel beyond the boundaries of your budget?Nay, says Telltale Games, and to prove it the developer has made the first episode of Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space on iOS totes free, and discounted the other four episodes to $2.99 a piece. These aren't permanent pricing changes, of course, so anyone looking to get their adventuring feet wet with something a little more family friendly than the alternative should take note.

Episode 4: Chariots of the Dogs includes a playable Whack da Ratz mini-game and a Sam & Max soundboard. (Because ordering a large pepperoni from Domino's is less depressing when you do it as Max.)It'll set you back $4.99 – about three quarters the cost of that Domino's pizza.

Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space (AKA "season two") continues its slow and steady march to iOS, as Telltale announces that episode three is now available on Apple's platform. Entitled "Night of the Raving Dead," the episode sees everyone's favorite anthropomorphic dog and rabbity thing facing off with zombies and a vampire in Stuttgart, Germany. The app, which works on both iPad and iPhone, is available now for $5. See a trailer for the original release (from way back in 2008) above.

If you think of time as flat, and the progress of time as a man-made construct, it should help explain the erratic (and backwards!) schedule of Sam & Max releases on PlayStation Network. Last year, the third "season" of the pioneering episodic series -- dubbed "The Devil's Playhouse" -- marked the crime-solving duo's PS3 debut. And now, ostensibly using technology created for developer Telltale's Back to the Future games, the second season is available today. Nearly four years after its PC debut, and two years after its XBLA release, Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space is coming to the PS3 for $20. If you're starting from scratch, you may want to further bend the laws of time and space (and economics!) by picking up the Sam & Max: MAX Pack, featuring both "Beyond Time and Space" and "The Devil's Playhouse." If we were betting dogs and rabbity-things, we'd guess a final release of season one, Sam & Max Save the World, can't be too far behind. And then you're born. %Gallery-136829%

It wouldn't be Halloween weekend if Telltale didn't offer a chapter of one of its adventure series for free -- well, we guess it still would be Halloween weekend, since ... that's how time works. Regardless, you can grab Sam and Max: Night of the Raving Dead this weekend for free.

First, you should know that Telltale has released the Sam & Max Complete Pack, which crams the first two seasons of the episodic Sam & Max series along with the currently 'airing' third season, The Devil's Playhouse, all into one package. The second thing you should know -- please, pay attention -- is that the Complete Pack is currently on sale for the ludicrously low price of $49.99, one heckuva deal considering the usual $95 price tag. If you've been looking for an excuse to dip your toes into the delightfully mad world of Sam & Max, this is it. Just do it quickly, because the sale ends June 2 at midnight PT. Mac users take note: only Seasons 2 and 3 are currently compatible with OS X. Telltale plans to port Season 1 "eventually," noting that its older code makes the porting process more difficult than the newer seasons. A Telltale purchase counts for both Windows and OS X versions, so Mac users will be able to download Season 1 free of charge once the port is finished.

We've got two click-em-ups up for grabs this week. One -- Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space -- is a buddy comedy fueled by crime, conversation and jokes, while the other -- Axel & Pixel -- is a puzzle solving affair rendered with bright colors and quirky animation. We're not sure what we did to deserve two point-and-click adventure games this week but, frankly, we're not going to look a gift horse in the mouth, especially considering these aren't gifts at all. No, they cost real money. 1600 in the case of Sam & Max, and 800 for Axel & Pixel. Xbox Live Arcade is heavy on the ampersands this week as both Axel & Pixel and the second season of Sam & Max (subtitled Beyond Time and Space, according to the ESRB) will be landing on Microsoft's download service. Both are games of the adventuring persuasion, requiring players to traverse the game world and solve puzzles, performing actions by pointing and / or clicking. Yes, you read that correctly, two adventure games in one week. It's like the 80s all over again. Axel & Pixel will set you back 800 ($10). Meanwhile, Sam & Max tops out at the most you should ever pay for a computer game. Also known as 1600 ($20). %Gallery-71001%
