Does a trip to an Apple Store make you happy? Or, like writer and former TUAW blogger Scott McNulty, does it fill you with a sense of impending dread? Scott wrote a short post for Macworld in which he expounds on his current discomfort with visiting Apple Stores, noting with distaste that the stores are usually "packed to the gills with people" who are "camped out at the demo machines, doing everything from checking Facebook to filming, editing and posting videos of themselves rocking out to some sweet tunes." Although Scott doesn't want to be Apple's next retail chief (darn, I was hoping I'd have a secret source at the company), he has a few great ideas for making the stores a more pleasant place for curmudgeons to visit. For one, he thinks that having at least one place where there's a traditional cashier and cash register could make life easier. I feel Scott's pain: whenever I do a self-checkout using the Apple Store app, I feel like I'm shoplifting. Go check out Scott's post for yourself, and let us know in the comments how you feel about those trips to the Apple Store.

I'm not used to writing about myself here on TUAW. I'm usually not the story, but just this once we thought it would be appropriate to break with tradition. After 3.5 years here at TUAW (here's my first post), and serving as lead blogger for a good portion of that time, I will be moving on to other things (perhaps bigger, if I'm lucky, but it is hard to think that they will be better. If they are just as good I'll count myself as a lucky fellow indeed).TUAW's destiny is now in the very capable hands of Dave Caolo and Mike Rose. TUAW will continue to grow by leaps and bounds under their leadership, and it will bring you all the great tips, tricks, and Mac news you have come to expect.Read on for more of this treacly goodbye post.

In today's world, media cannot be lost but only transformed. In this specific case, TUAW's Scott McNulty's appearance on CNBC is the transformation target; if you had trouble watching the clip of the Face2Face segment in CNBC's Windows Media embed on their page, the video is now available in the iTunes Store as a podcast. Watch Scott try to get a word in edgewise as the chatty traders shout over each other; not to be missed. Thanks Ricky

  • Phil Schiller shows CBS lots of iPhone features

Most of the videos I have seen of the iPhone don't show it in action, but this video really gives you an idea of how you interact with this little device. Phil Schiller, Apple's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing, pulls out all the stops for CBS News and runs the iPhone through its paces.Say what you will about the iPhone, but as I watched Phil navigate through its interface I couldn't help but think it was all special effects. Good special effects at that.Oh, and you eagle eyed readers out there might recognize a large man wearing a red shirt in the back ground during the opening of this piece (hint, it's me).[via the Mac DevCenter]

I was lucky enough to be on the scene at the grand opening of the Apple Store in Suburban Square in Ardmore, PA (I had to go since it is so close to my house). I wouldn't be the amazing blogger that I am if I didn't bring along my camcorder and create a video podcast for all you guys and gals out there. You can download it directly here (34 megs) for your iPods, or get it via the enclosure in this post, or you can watch via YouTube (which is embedded in this post, though the downloadable version has better video quality). I got to talk to lots of great folks, and I had a blast.

As we were sitting in the Moscone waiting for some news to happen Laurie turned to me and said, "What would you say if I suggested we take a road trip to Cupertino to hit the Apple Store there for some logo gear?"I agreed and we were off to the wondrous world of 1 Infinite Loop. Next time I'm there it would be great if an Apple employee could show us around (hint, hint). The 'Company Store,' as it is called, is the only Apple store to sell Apple logo gear.
