Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag will let you choose how much of the present day you want to explore, to a point. Game Director Ashraf Ismail revealed via the Ubiblog that the game will feature "a solid three to five hours" of gameplay that takes place at Abstergo, the sinister mega-corporation antagonist of the series. Most of the modern day gameplay is optional, however; only roughly 20 minutes will be required. "You leave the Animus five times during the game's main path and each time you're there for about three to four minutes," Ismail told the Ubiblog. While in the game's modern day setting, you'll play as an Abstergo programmer, researching protagonist and assassin-pirate, Edward Kenway. Dig through the company's files, and you can uncover information, including what's happened to Desmond. "You get to see what Abstergo Entertainment as a company is doing with your research. You get to see the progression of what they're trying to do, which is really fun," Ismail said. Software programmers and pirates don't tend to get along in the real world, but in Assassin's Creed 4, they apparently go together like peanut butter and jellyfish. No wait. Jelly. Just regular jelly.

Ah, there's nothing quite as nice after a long day of adventuring than to come back to your house, curl up, and get a good night's sleep. The only thing we'd caution against is leaving all that heavy armor on -- or worse still, one's weapon! Today's Runes of Magic shot comes to us from Abstergo, who apparently was a little too tired after a long day to bother! The note attached to this image read: "Affter a long day of work, Abstergo takes a rest on his bed. Sleeping with an axe in the back must be kind of painful, but he's a tough guy!" Hopefully he had a potion for morning back pain! If you've taken a silly screenshot of your character that you'd like to share with the rest of us, then send it in! We're always on the lookout for more. Email them in to us here at oneshots@massively.com, and be sure to include your name, the name of the game, and a description of what we're seeing. We'll post it out here and give you the credit for sending it in. %Gallery-85937%

  • Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood teased via Abstergo Industries e-mail

As promised, Ubisoft has started its marketing efforts for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. An e-mail from the game's Abstergo Industries barely attempts to extend the fiction into reality, linking to a Flash-filled Ubisoft promotional website. Presumably, the teaser site provides insight into some of the weapons that may be used in the sequel's new multiplayer component, including an axe, fan, syringe, dagger and claw. (Solve the puzzle on the website to unveil yet another weapon: the switch blade.) Some concept art (placed after the break) is buried in the site, possibly offering a clue as to how the story of Brotherhood will unfold. We're pretty certain these are rows of Animus machines waiting to be activated, but perhaps you can provide your own conspiracy theories.
