That Wii hacking community sure is a musical bunch. First came word of a drumming hack that turned Wii remotes into virtual drumsticks. Now comes another hack that turns a pair of remotes into a sort of air guitar. As described on the WiiLi.org discussion board and demonstrated in the below video, the simple PC program uses one remote to detect strumming and another to determine which frets are being held. Chords and arpeggios are also possible with some complex button combinations. While the setup is a little less than intuitive, this proof of concept should be all an enterprising hacker needs to set up a fully functioning air guitar game using the remote. Now all we need is a wii remote-controlled keyboard and bass to bring our dreams of a real (virtual) air band to fruition.[Thanks James]

Sure, we could make jokes about how being in a marching band is lame and one's only choice should they be horrible at sports, but we aren't that kind of judgmental blog. Instead, we're the type of blog to pay homage and respect those who manage to convince their superiors that a videogame-inspired medley of tunes should be the focus of the half-time show. That's what this wonderful MSU marching band did, playing tunes from awesome Nintendo games such as Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda. They also played something from a Microsoft game, we believe. Something having to do with angels?

  • HTC typo leaves MTeoR customers fuming

Unsuspecting American buyers of the MTeoR, HTC's self-branded cut of the 3G-capable Breeze candybar, might be a bit surprised to find that they're not having much luck with reception. Some versions of HTC's own marketing materials for the device list it as sporting quad-band GSM and tri-band UMTS, but alas, it's actually a tri-band GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 unit with support for UMTS only on the European 2100 band. Of course, had this really been a tri-band UMTS phone, we'd have been throwing parties, launching fireworks, and generally making merry here at Engadget HQ, but for the few folks who've imported one of these pieces stateside, our hearts go out to you.[Thanks, Rick V.]

If you didn't get a chance to catch U2's Vertigo tour live and in person (or even if you did) you'll probably want to check out the HD premiere of "Vertigo//2005 U2 Live from Chicago" on HDNet later this month. I'm going to grab my Irish flag and pretend to be Johnny Drama,  anybody else plan on watching?
