The Japanese Pokemon site has received a huge update including videos and some graphics displaying combat coliseums and attacks for some of the Pokemon. The videos, which there are 4 of, are short and only show some in-battle action, however we find ourselves enjoying the graphics quite a bit.The site also updated some of the DS-Wii connectivity information, which you can check out here.[Via Go Nintendo]

Right from the you knew it file comes this latest tidbit of info regarding Nintendo's latest Pokemon title Pokemon Battle Revolution for the Wii. The DS is to be used as controller, it turns out, allowing players to choose actions and view stats on pertinent Pokemon while the battle plays out on their television set. Sounds good to us, but we'd like to see some more features utilized between the handheld and console. The game is to release during the Japanese launch window for the Wii and is scheduled for a 2007 release in North America.

  • Battlefield-ready iRobots roll into Washington

Considering India, South Korea, and Germany are apparently already stocking up on robotic replacements to man their respective armies, we Americans better get on the ball. We've known the Pentagon has been on a quest to find autonomous replacements to tried and true human soldiers, and it looks like help is on the way from our favorite floor-cleaning supplier, iRobot. Holding true to prior expectations, the company's products were out in full force at the Association of the United States Army show, as a myriad of self-directed 'bots induced frightening thoughts of mutiny and widespread anarchy. The "armed and dangerous" bevy of creations boasted automatic shotguns, bomb launchers, precision sniper rifles, infrared cameras, and even a 30-caliber chaingun. The machines were touted as "lifesavers," insinuating that their presence on the battlefield would allow soldiers to hang back out of harm's way -- but we aren't exactly certain how these deadly automatons actually distinguish between friendlies and foes. Nevertheless, we're working under the assumption that unlike more "chore-friendly versions," these iRobots won't be seeing any shelf time outside of maximum security armories -- but it's for our own good, anyway.[Via MobileMag]

We heard a rumor that robots are somewhat popular in Japan, and the only thing better than robots are custom-built battlebots. Sadly, the Custom Robo series hasn't taken off as well outside Japan, but it looks like they're trying to expand the appeal of the title with WiFi support. Robot battles any time, any place? Yeah, we know. Final Fantasy III overload. But what's a fanboy girl to do? We are powerless to resist the lure of the lovingly updated classic. This preview has no random chatter, but only the FFIII goodness we crave. Nice look at the use of the stylus, the battle system, and more. Doesn't look like there's an issue with loading times from one area to the next, but this is just a taste, after all.

With approximately 27 Yu-Gi-Oh! games on the Game Boy platform, you'd think that the PSP would get with the trend fad program with its own version of the mega-popular children's card game. Well, in September, Japanese gamers can partake in some widescreen card dueling set in the GX universe. Anyone that remembers finding link cables for the GBA will breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Tag Force will feature four player battles wirelessly. American gamers will only have to wait until November, and the game will feature voice acting and animation from the series, now running on Cartoon Network.

  • Sony fights back: their battle against homebrew

The battle between the homebrew community and Sony has been a long, bloody fight. With Sony finally playing the legal card against homebrewers, PSP 3D takes a retrospective look at the history of Sony's struggle. They claim that Sony has been getting more desperate, and a bit angrier, as seen by this quote from a Sony programmer: "Overall it's [homebrew] frowned on. Our tech guys have gotten madder and madder lately, and it does void your warranty."The complete article has tons of interesting tidbits. Of particular interest is the infamous GTA exploit which allowed for homebrew to be run even with the most recent firmware release during that time: "The GTA hack operated in a way which utilized the game's in-game SYSCALLs (system calls) in order to run arbitrary code. This is why kernal (full PSP hardware/software IO access) mode via the hack was impossible; you are only allowed to code as much as the SYSCALLs availability, therefore, advanced SYSCALLs, like those for VSH (update mode) or kernal mode were unavailable for use, simply because GTA: LCS didn't utilize them. This fact brought upon the problem of concern for Sony's engineers. They'd have to release a firmware update which jumbles up the method of loading SYSCALLs in order to prevent homebrew from being loaded. Not easy stuff, really, especially when you need to maintain the working status of all the retail UMD games already released and sold."[Via PlayStation.com boards]

Way back in March Dave Caolo wrote a post called 'I already have an Ultra-Mobile PC: It's called a Newton' with tongue planted firmly in cheek. It would seem that Cnet UK agrees with Dave. They pitted a Messagepad 2100 against a Samsung Q1 and unbelievably the Newton won. It won based on battery life (two double AA's power it for 30 hours) and price. I'm not expecting to see a resurgence of Newtons out there but it would be nice, wouldn't it?[via jkOnTheRun]

When we reported on a new Mega Man game being announced via Coro Coro Magazine, we had no idea that the announcement featured an entire multi-page spread. In the scans, we get a new glimpse of the main hero, even in his Mega Man battle suit (we're not impressed), as well as the new battle system. The battle system looks like it's some kind of variation on the game tic-tac-toe, where instead of X's and O's, there are deadly robots fighting for their very lives.

According to DSX-2, the successor to the Rockman.EXE series (Mega Man Battle Network to the rest of the world) has been formally announced as Ryusei no Rockman and will be shipping to Japanese gamers come this winter. The new hero will be named Seiga Subaru. Nothing else in the way of actual info can be gleamed from the source (Corocoro magazine), so keep an eye on DS Fanboy for future updates.

We're not trying to suffocate you guys with You Tube videos here at The Fanboy, but there are just so many gosh-darn good ones right now that we're forced to link them. Like this Pokemon Battle Revolution footage! It really looks polished and could possibly be the game that gets me back into the franchise. But honestly though, why doesn't that whale just eat everyone?[Thanks Austin!]

Iwata was kind enough to provide even more details on Wii-DS functionality, revealing that the DS will be able to do more things than just download demos from the console. Iwata stated that the DS would be able to act as a touchscreen controller for the console, which we assume would work when navigating the unit's menus outside of playing games, although one game is making it possible for the DS to control gameplay so far. The recent announcement of Pokemon Battle Revolution promises that the player will be able to use the Wi-Fi capabilities of the DS to perform a number of actions. Being the first game to implement features with the DS, we're hopeful that many more developers will take advantage of this properly.

Dubbed Pokemon Battle Revolution, it looks like tag-team battle is the emphasis this time around. Also, the game is to be able to utilize the upcoming Pokemon Diamond and Pearl versions to exchange correspondence via Wi-Fi and swap pokemon, along with displaying the 2D battles of the DS game on your TV in 3D through the Wii. Other features are mentioned, but using online translation tools doesn't give the most accurate descriptions, so in fear of reporting something false, we'll just leave the post at that.[Thanks nushio!]

Western Square fans have been waiting a long time for the next canonical (read: Roman-numeral-bearing, non-MMO, non-X-2) Final Fantasy release--five years if we're not mistaken--and they've apparently taken to creating live-action videos of the game to make the wait easier.
