  • Dead Space includes Burnout & Bad Company demos

Being one of the biggest publishers in the world has its advantages. One of these advantages, particularly in EA's case, is being able to pull from their catalog of games for extra content. For example, the PS3 version of Dead Space comes with two demos for other EA titles: Burnout Paradise and Battlefield: Bad Company. These demos are accessible from the XMB, where two Blu-ray discs will appear once you insert the Dead Space disc. One for the game itself and the other titled "EA Demos."These demos need to be installed, but can be run without having the disc in the drive. In other words, it saves you having to download. Not exactly a selling point, but definitely a clever way for EA to leverage their other publishing properties.

  • Bad Company assaulted by DLC, free weapons, update

IGN reports a veritable cornucopia of news regarding Battlefield: Bad Company. The leaderboards have been expanded to include 500,000 players (up from 50,000), which should give more gamers a chance to see their names up in lights. Also, two of the campaign levels -- Acta Non Verba and Par For The Course -- are being retooled for multiplayer and will be available in an upcoming map pack (no word on when it will release or how much it will cost). Along with the map pack, an update is being prepared that should fix server and Dog Tag lag. Finally, and perhaps most interesting, codes are being given out to unlock three of the five (somewhat controversial) weapons that were only available to those who took part in the game's launch promotions. To unlock the different weapons, simply enter the codes below in the unlock section in Bad Company. Recon Kit - QBU88 - your3mynextt4rget Special Ops Kit - UZI - cov3r1ngthecorn3r Support Kit - M60 - try4ndrunf0rcov3r The remaining weapons can still be unlocked by checking your stats on the Bad Company website and joining the EA Veteran's Program. [Thanks, Patrick]

Remember BattleField: Bad Company? Of course you do. Some of you are probably still playing it. If you aren't, then you soon might be because the game is due to get a shot in the arm before too long. After running a contest through which players could decide on which map pack DICE should start working on first, a post has gone up on the official blog to let us know that there will be other content coming when the map pack drops. There's no indication on when that'll be, or if it'll cost us anything, but the accompanying patch will be free, at least. With this patch DICE are looking to fix several bugs, such as server lag and VOIP issues. There will also be various gameplay tweaks. Not only that, but three weapons, previously only obtainable through pre-ordering, playing the demo or signing up to the newsletter, will be made available to everyone for free. Check out the full list of fixes and tweaks at the official blog. Finally (saving the best til last) the patch will add trophy support to the game. PS3 gamers are being spoilt by all these free, content patches. Not that we're complaining. We hope to find out when this'll hit soon.[Thanks Topsu]

Today is the last day you can head over to EA's Battlefield: Bad Company site to vote for which two maps you'd liked to see modified to become a Conquest battleground in an upcoming map pack. You can choose between Acta Non Verba, Crossing Over, Par for the Course, Ghost Town, Welcome to Bad Company and Crash and Grab. It looks like Par for the Course is at the head of the pack, with Acta Non Verba at a distant second. In addition to the two maps selected in this democratic manner, two will be dictated to us by DICE. Make your voice heard by casting your vote here. [Via Joystiq]

Already registered via Xbox Live to vote in November's general election? Here's a different vote to rock: EA is letting players have a say in which two existing Battlefield: Bad Company multiplayer maps will be tweaked to become Conquest battlegrounds when the free Conquest Map Pack deploys this fall. The six maps are up for vote at EA's Bad Company site, and include Acta Non Verba, Crossing Over, Par for the Course, Ghost Town, Welcome to Bad Company, and Crash and Grab. Developer DICE will pick the two top vote-getters on September 2. The golf course themed Par for the Course is currently way out in front, but, hey, you might change that. DICE is working on two more Conquest maps to join the fan favorites.By the way, we've checked, and your vote really will count. You know, unlike a certain Spider-Man: Web of Shadows poll Activision conducted last month.

  • Bad Company's Conquest Mode DLC now available

Attention Bad Company fanboys, a brand new mode is now available for your favorite gold grabbing FPS. We're talking about the brand new Conquest mode of course. Calling it brand new isn't exactly accurate though, as Conquest mode is actually the traditional gameplay mode seen in previous Battlefield titles. Taking place on four modified maps, Conquest has players battle to deplete the opposing teams 'tickets' by capturing flags and, of course, killing enemy soldiers. In short, it's the mode Battlefield fans all know and love. It's available now on Xbox Live Marketplace and, best of all, it's free.

The Battlefield: Bad Company patch is now available to download in European territories. Simply shove the disc in the drive and it will download automagically. The update is just under 100 megs and adds a new multiplayer game mode, Conquest, which is very similar to Warhawk's Zones mode. We're not sure whether it's up in America yet, but we'll keep you updated. If it's not up by now, chances are it'll appear sometime during the day. Don't forget, this update is completely free, another sign that EA is becoming gamer-friendly? [Thanks Wild Pegasus]

Expected to go live this Thursday, August 7th is a new multiplayer game mode for Battlefield: Bad Company called Conquest. A game mode that was first seen and made popular back in Battlefield: 1942. In Conquest, players capture and control flags where, once a flag is captured, that team has the ability to spawn soldiers from. Oh, and the Conquest update will be free, so have no Microsoft point worries. We'll see you on the Conquest battlefield, soldier.

Back in April, a little PR disaster caused EA to come to their senses and changed their mind about charging players to unlock weapons in Battlefield: Bad Company. Luckily, this trend is continuing with the game's other DLC content as well; later this week, you'll be able to download the first major update to the game, for free. The update will contain a Conquest Mode which was originally found on Battlefield 1942. The mode allows two teams go against each other in order to reduce one another's tickets. Scoring a kill or capturing control points are two ways to do just that. Anticipate this update to arrive on Thursday, August 7th. Finally, check out the video above of producer Gordon Van Dyke explaining all the updates you should expect.

  • Free Battlefield: Bad Company Conquest mode hits Thursday

For a game that received so much attention early on due to its controversial weapons microtransaction scheme, it's interesting to note that the first major gameplay update to Battlefield: Bad Company is going to be absolutely free. (Well, you do of course need to buy the game before said update makes any sense.)EA and BF:BC dev DICE have prepped a new multiplayer mode, Conquest, for deployment on Thursday (that's August 7 for the calendar-conscious). The match type actually originated in DICE's breakout hit, Battlefield 1942, and its exclusion from Bad Company came much to the chagrin of long-time series devotees. Well, now it's back, and playable on all BC maps that support the Gold Rush game mode. The update will hit the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store simultaneously, so you're set for a a weekend of Conquest no matter which version you own.[Source: Press Release]

  • EA doubles Q1 revenues, troubled by $95 million loss

    by

Monolithic publisher EA has reported the preliminary financial results for its first fiscal quarter, ended June 30, 2008, and noted a dramatic increase in net revenues. Despite sales rising $409 million to $804 million (more than double that of Q1 2007's $395 million), the publisher still suffered a net loss of $95 million, which according to our admittedly rudimentary mathematical abilities, is smaller than the previous year's $132 million. We want net loss to be smaller, right?EA's rise in sales can be attributed to the strong commercial performance of titles like UEFA Euro 2008, the "continued strength" of Rock Band and Battlefield: Bad Company, which managed to shift 1.6 million copies. "We are now seeing the early returns of the change agenda we started last year," stated CEO John Riccitiello. He went on to use words like "innovation" and "quality" to describe EA's forthcoming lineup, calling it "the best title portfolio in the company's history." We would totally agree, especially after experiencing the publisher's strong E3 showing ... but we're worried that doing so might just trigger Armageddon.

  • Battlefield: Bad Company dev lists 'issues' to be fixed

So, despite internet kvetching about Battlefield: Bad Company's DLC strategy, turns out it's a pretty good shooter with a fair amount of – you're not going to believe this – innovation. And it doesn't stop there. Developer DICE is still working on the game, putting the finishing touches on the "Conquest game mode" along with the Conquest-flavored conversions of the maps. But when they're done with that, they're looking to address some of the more persistent complaints about the game, including: Clan support/private rooms/team chat Auto balancing on servers Continued support against stats exploits VoIP issue on PS3 (working with Sony on this) Squads might be split up when joining a server as a squad. This is due to team balancing in the games that are being joined, and usually resolves itself in round 2. No promises, of course, but if you had an email drafted to jerks at DICE dot se bemoaning the lack of clan support, your finger hovering dangerously close to the send button, you can probably file it away for later.[Via X3F]

Who would have thought that all your whining, groaning and moaning would actually inspire change in a video game? We guess only developers who're considered "cool" actually listen to their community, and in the case of Battlefield: Bad Company, the DICE crew is listening to community feedback and taking action.Posting on the official Bad Company website, team DICE wanted to let everyone know that they're listening and are looking into all the Bad Company improvements the community has suggested. The first update being the addition of a Conquest game mode that will be included in "The Conquest Pack" which is currently in MS cert. After that's complete, DICE promises to look into issues surrounding things like auto balancing and stat exploits. Remember kids, DICE listens and DICE reacts all because DICE cares.[Via Shacknews]

DICE wants to let you know they're still working hard on improving Battlefield: Bad Company by fixing some issues that have popped up and also by adding some much desired content. DICE isn't goofing off here, the addition of a Battlefield series staple, Conquest Mode, is apparently almost done. DICE says it's "currently going through testing and certification." According to Shack News, this DLC will be free of charge. Also, in case you've run into some bugs or problems, DICE is listening and is working on several issues. Here's a list they've laid out: Clan support/private rooms/team chat Auto balancing on servers Continued support against stats exploits VOIP issue on PS3 (working with Sony on this) Squads might be split up when joining a server as a squad. This is due to team balancing in the games that are being joined, and usually resolves itself in round 2. [Via Shack News, Thanks Leigh B.!]

  • Having Bad Company connection issues on 360? Try resetting

Well, that's easy. While it's currently investigating a permanent solution, EA has advised "some" players of the Xbox 360 version of ragtag romp, Battlefield: Bad Company, to turn off their consoles should they experience online connection issues. Oh, but you need to turn it back on approximately 20 minutes later. Therein lies the trick, an essential step if you're keen on blasting through walls and otherwise enjoying all those hard-earned weapons. We'll let you know once EA has sorted out the problem, like a good company.

Having a difficult time connecting to EA's Battlefield: Bad Company servers? Well kids, you aren't alone. EA has acknowledged the fact that some Xbox 360 Bad Company gamers are having troubles connecting to the game servers. Though, take comfort in the fact that they are "monitoring stats non-stop and are working with several partners to locate any possible flashpoints and eradicate any hostiles we encounter." Ha! And until they release a fix, EA recommends simply shutting off your Xbox for 20 minutes, then giving it an old fashioned restart. Good luck![Via Eurogamer]

Though gravelly voiced soldiers are always keen to point out the many ways in which war has changed, it certainly hasn't ceased being profitable, least of all in the realm of video games. DICE, developer of EA's popular Battlefield franchise, has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that it currently has five related titles in development. Executive producer for DICE, Ben Cousins, was quite right when he said that's "more than you expect."With Battlefield: Bad Company out this week and the free-to-play Battlefield: Heroes already impressing industry pundits, we're left speculating about three (maybe more?) additional titles. According to Cousin's comments made at GDC Paris, one will be a traditional game for consoles, while another will be a joint effort with Neowiz, aimed at Korea. As for the third title? We're predicting Battlefield: Field of Battle, a turn-based card game for the iPhone. What say you?
