Today is the last day you can head over to EA's Battlefield: Bad Company site to vote for which two maps you'd liked to see modified to become a Conquest battleground in an upcoming map pack. You can choose between Acta Non Verba, Crossing Over, Par for the Course, Ghost Town, Welcome to Bad Company and Crash and Grab. It looks like Par for the Course is at the head of the pack, with Acta Non Verba at a distant second. In addition to the two maps selected in this democratic manner, two will be dictated to us by DICE. Make your voice heard by casting your vote here. [Via Joystiq]

The Battlefield: Bad Company patch is now available to download in European territories. Simply shove the disc in the drive and it will download automagically. The update is just under 100 megs and adds a new multiplayer game mode, Conquest, which is very similar to Warhawk's Zones mode. We're not sure whether it's up in America yet, but we'll keep you updated. If it's not up by now, chances are it'll appear sometime during the day. Don't forget, this update is completely free, another sign that EA is becoming gamer-friendly? [Thanks Wild Pegasus]

  • Battlefield: Bad Company Conquest Mode DLC coming August 7th

Back in April, a little PR disaster caused EA to come to their senses and changed their mind about charging players to unlock weapons in Battlefield: Bad Company. Luckily, this trend is continuing with the game's other DLC content as well; later this week, you'll be able to download the first major update to the game, for free. The update will contain a Conquest Mode which was originally found on Battlefield 1942. The mode allows two teams go against each other in order to reduce one another's tickets. Scoring a kill or capturing control points are two ways to do just that. Anticipate this update to arrive on Thursday, August 7th. Finally, check out the video above of producer Gordon Van Dyke explaining all the updates you should expect.

Well, that's easy. While it's currently investigating a permanent solution, EA has advised "some" players of the Xbox 360 version of ragtag romp, Battlefield: Bad Company, to turn off their consoles should they experience online connection issues. Oh, but you need to turn it back on approximately 20 minutes later. Therein lies the trick, an essential step if you're keen on blasting through walls and otherwise enjoying all those hard-earned weapons. We'll let you know once EA has sorted out the problem, like a good company.

As if they didn't already have enough of their plate with Mirror's Edge, Battlefield: Bad Company and Battlefield: Heroes, Swedish developer DICE confirmed with GamesIndustry.biz that they're hard at work on an additional three Battlefield games. That's a total of five Battlefield games being developed at once ... ZOMG!According to Ben Cousins, executive producer at DICE, one of the upcoming (and yet to be revealed) Battlefield games will be a targeted towards the console market and another being developed in collaboration with Neowiz for the Korean gaming market. Though gravelly voiced soldiers are always keen to point out the many ways in which war has changed, it certainly hasn't ceased being profitable, least of all in the realm of video games. DICE, developer of EA's popular Battlefield franchise, has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that it currently has five related titles in development. Executive producer for DICE, Ben Cousins, was quite right when he said that's "more than you expect."With Battlefield: Bad Company out this week and the free-to-play Battlefield: Heroes already impressing industry pundits, we're left speculating about three (maybe more?) additional titles. According to Cousin's comments made at GDC Paris, one will be a traditional game for consoles, while another will be a joint effort with Neowiz, aimed at Korea. As for the third title? We're predicting Battlefield: Field of Battle, a turn-based card game for the iPhone. What say you?

  • Battlefield: Bad Company trailers parody Gears of War, Rainbow Six

In the immortal words of Matthew Wilder, it looks like EA isn't letting some early bad press for Battlefield: Bad Company break-a their stride. We've seen a veritable gaggle of promotional material for the controversial title as of late, including two recent trailers which clown on some other popular shooters. The first of which, seen above, parodies the unforgettable Gears of War trailer, and features an unnamed infantryman butchering Gary Jules' cover of the Tears for Fears classic downer "Mad World". The other (available after the break) somewhat mocks Rainbow Six's stealth tactics. It's not exactly uncharted territory, but we can always appreciate such Yankovician displays of friendly competition between developers.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

  • FFXI devs adjust Einherjar with accessibility in mind

    06.02.2008

Square-Enix revealed today that the next update to FInal Fantasy XI will make several adjustments to the Einherjar venue.Players have complained that the structure of the battlefield makes it inaccessible and unworthy of the trouble. One of the chief complaints was that new party members could not be introduced into the mix after the progression has begun, and that a player who missed one or more chambers would not be able to continue. The FFXI team is making the following changes to remedy that. After the next patch, Therion Ichor will be given to players based on how many monsters they've killed, not on whether or not they completed a chamber. Also, only the "organizing player" will need to meet the old requirements for entry into Wings I, II, and III, or Valgrind. Other players will be able to follow him or her into each chamber regardless of their past progress.

  • Bad Company achievements one-up kill count, again

When Bizarre Creations' third-person shooter The Club released its list of achievements, gamers laughed at the team's one-up of the Gears of War online kill count--months later it appears DICE wants in on the joke too. Peaking at the achievement list available at MyGamerCard, Battlefield: Bad Company includes one achievement, "Beans Bullets Bandages," that awards players 30 GS points for achieving 10,002 kills online. While it was humorous the first time now we're just worried the achievement will become a trend. The rest of the list includes your standard mission completition, difficulty setting points with half of the achievements dedicated to the Battlefield: Bad Company's online modes. One thing to note, for a title that was hailed as primarily a single-player focused experience, we wonder why nearly half of the achievements are multiplayer only. Battlefield: Bad Company is set to release on June 23. [Thanks, Sabo]

Anyone who wasn't lucky enough to experience the closed beta of the slightly controversial EA first-person comedy-shooter (not kidding), Battlefield: Bad Company, will soon have their chance. Today EA announced that a demo for the DICE developed title will hit the Xbox Live Marketplace and PSN on June 5. The single and multiplayer demo promises to showcase what was in the beta as well as the wacky characters found in the campaign mode. Gamers who decide to pre-order the title from select retailers will be treated an early download of the demo beginning May 29. For those at home keeping score you'll remember pre-ordering and playing the demo will give gamers access to two of the five controversial weapons found in the beta. Pre-ordering gives gamers access to the QBU88 Sniper Rifle while downloading and playing the demo nets players the UZI Submachine Gun. Battlefield: Bad Company ships on June 25.

The Battlefield: Bad Company DLC controversy has settled down after EA compromised with their "marketing promotions" idea and now today, thanks to Planet Battlefield, we know exactly what we'll have to do to earn all five additional weapons. So, without further wait, here are the non-Microsoft point involved steps to earn each controversial weapon ... QBU88 Sniper Rifle: Pre-order the game online or at any participating retailer. UZI Submachine Gun: Download and play the demo M60 Light Machine Gun: Sign up for the Battlefield newsletter F2000 Assault Rifle: Register your Battlefield soldier name USAS12 Shotgun: Check your Bad Company stats online at launch. Like we said, there's no Microsoft points involved, but is this really a better solution? A show of hands please, who's committed to completing all five tasks listed above to earn the Bad Company weapon bounty? [Via Joystiq]

  • How to get the five Battlefield Bad Company DLC weapons

At their community event last week, Electronic Arts unveiled the five separate tasks you must complete to be able to use all five previously-premium weapons in Battlefield: Bad Company. Although the official site has only revealed one of the ways, Planet Battlefield has outlined all five methods: QBU88 Sniper Rifle: Pre-order the game online or at any participating retailer. So far we know Gamestop and Amazon are part of this deal. UZI Submachine Gun: Download and play the demo M60 Light Machine Gun: Sign up for the Battlefield newsletter F2000 Assault Rifle: Register your Battlefield soldier name USAS12 Shotgun: Check your Bad Company stats online at launch. Is this better than paying a premium? As for the quality of the weapons, our friends at sister site X3F tell us that, at least for the beta, the Uzi and F2000 are noticeably more powerful than their available-at-launch counterparts, while the others feel pretty balanced.

Now that we can (almost) put all that negative purchasing in-game weapons talk aside, we can proudly scream from the rooftops that EA has officially announced that Battlefield: Bad Company will release to retailer shelves on June 23rd. Yes, it's acceptable to say that Bad Company has had its fair share of controversy and negative sentiment, but we know some enjoyed the beta and can look past the game's ... erm, past. But what about you? Will you be a member of Bad Company this June and openly announce your purchase from the rooftops? Hmm?

  • Army brings armed robots home from Iraq over control issues

Although other countries have deployed gun-toting robots and there's no shortage of companies trying to develop weaponized bots for Uncle Sam, it looks like the first test of actual killer robots in battle has ended in a whimper: the Army's TALON SWORD gunbots, are headed home, after being plagued with control issues. Yeah, that's right -- control issues. Apparently it was too hard to prevent the Army's gun-equipped robot from moving its gun "when it was not intended to move." Reassuring, no? The Army doesn't sound too enthused about another go-round, saying, "once you've done something that's really bad, it can take 10 or 20 years to try it again." Ouch. On the plus side, at least that's 20 more years before we're all put to work in the mines, no?

A few weeks ago Electronic Arts released news that the exclusive weapons found in the special edition (the Gold Edition as it's called) of Battlefield: Bad Company would be made available on the Xbox Live Marketplace for a fee. After sending the internet into an expected uproar over the decision that resulted in angry comments from X3F readers, an internet boycott campaign and an analysis of the situation on our own X3F TV, it seems EA has changed their mind. Earlier today in an interview with IGN, Senior Producer at DICE Karl-Magnus Troedsson spoke the words throngs of FPS fanboys have been waiting to hear. "No, there's no charge for any of the guns in the game. All of the guns in the game can be achieved without purchasing them." But the story doesn't end there. Jump in to find out what you'll need to do to claim your weapons from EA when Battlefield: Bad Company hits this summer.

  • Battlefield: Bad Company's DLC guns are 'free,' but there's a catch

The developers of Battlefield: Bad Company have heard the outcry regarding the premium weaponry, both from Sarcastic Gamer and other outlets. Speaking to IGN, DICE Senior Producer Karl-Magnus Troedsson said there would be no charge for the five guns. Here's how you can get the guns: Pay $10 for the Gold Edition of the game, have the guns on the disc Buy the Standard Edition, hit the max rank level of 25 In both cases, "You have to do the marketing programs that we're going to announce further ahead" (huh?) before you can get the guns. The last bullet point up there confuses us. What are the marketing programs? Troedsson told IGN there would be five marketing programs from EA that are free and will reportedly be "as easy as signing up for a newsletter." In other words, don't expect the Gold Edition guns on launch day, but know that you can be at rank level 4 and still get access to them at some point.[Via X3F]
