  • Preliminary E3 list teases two new Capcom games, Alan Wake still missing

The worker bees at IGN have been busy, buzzing about and gathering lists from some of the major E3 presenters of what's going to be on display in July. Of course, we're sure the powers-that-be have scrubbed these lists clean of any potential product spoilers (if you squint just so, you can barely make out Night Trap 2 ... or is that just us?), but we did want to share a few of the things that popped out: Two untitled Capcom projects that weren't shown off at their recent CAPtivate event (Dead Rising 2 perhaps?) Bionic Commando Rearmed: Considering E3's mid-July schedule, and the game's since-lapsed May release target, does this mean Rearmed isn't making a June release either? [Update: A Capcom rep told us the game would definitely be released "post-E3."] Halo Wars is there, but Alan Wake is still missing from Microsoft's lineup. Unless they're still playing it close to the vest, 2009 then? [Update: A Microsoft rep told us, "We're still finalizing our E3 plans, so we can't comment quite yet."] Of course, the list is still incomplete; we're missing games from Atari, Codemasters, Crave, Disney, Eidos, Konami, LucasArts, MTV, Nintendo, Sega, Sony Online, Square-Enix, Take-Two, Tecmo, THQ, Ubisoft, and Warner Bros. Interactive. So, yeah ... we're missing lists from just about everyone. It ain't far away now though.

  • Bionic Commando and the soundtrack you won't hear on the Wii

One of the many reasons we love Bionic Commando and want to see it on the Virtual Console so badly is for its awesome, 8-bit soundtrack. So, when Capcom released Simon Viklund's album for Bionic Commando Rearmed, which reworks the NES songs into a more modern-day sound, we had to have it.We know that Rearmed isn't coming to the Wii, despite Wii gamers' pleas and petitions. Still, there's no denying the NES roots in Viklund's music, and just because we're not getting the actual game doesn't mean we should deprive ourselves of some great tunes, does it?In fact, the folks at Capcom are releasing the soundtrack even though they think they'll lose money on it, simply because they love and believe in the music that much. After listening to it, we have to say that we can see why. If you're interested, you can get the full soundtrack on iTunes or at Sumthing Digital for $9.99 (or buy the tracks you like separately for $0.99).[Via Capcom's Blog]

So apparently Bionic Commando Rearmed won't be making it in time for its previously announced May release. As patched in to us via the official website's Communicator, the team working on the game has "run into a few problems in the closing stages." Despite this, the game is done. There are just a few things that need to be corrected before it's good to go. When exactly will the game be ready for deployment? We don't know, but we're assuming it won't be too long.[Via Joystiq]

We hope you're sitting own. The anticipated XBLA title, Bionic Commando Rearmed, has been delayed from its original May release. According to a classified communique found on the Bionic Commando blog, the game is complete but still requires some bug fixing, certification process before it's ready for release. No word on a new release for the title, which still plans to hit the Xbox 360, PC and PS3 simultaneously. Our friends at Joystiq has spared you the hassle of having to click through the entire retro text message found on the site which you can find after the break. [via Joystiq]

According to a message on the BC website's Communicator, the game is complete but missing its scheduled May release date. The game is reportedly done but has a few bug fixes and submissions procedures to battle. To spare you the hassle of clicking through a whole lot of retro text boxes (and it was a pain), we've provided transcription of the message after the break.%Gallery-14181%

  • Rumor: Bionic Commando Rearmed this Wednesday

Last week didn't see any kind of XBLA release due to the massive popularity of GTA IV, but now that that particular sales storm has passed, what is the next release for the Live Arcade? Common sense might say that it'd be Happy Tree Friends: False Alarm, given that it was pushed back into May. And that still might be possible as XBLA games can release in pairs. However the Australian site PALGN has Bionic Commando Rearmed set for a 05/07/2008 release, so if they're right we might be seeing that one sooner than we thought we would have. We certainly haven't heard anything else about this week's XBLA release ....

Everything old is new again, right? Especially when it has new things. Capcom's upcoming PSN remake of the original Bionic Commando looks absolutely incredible, and not juts from a visual perspective. The addition of multiplayer makes this $10 M-rated downloadable title a bargain. With support up to four players in three different modes, we think this will be a blast for all you old-school gamers out there (that includes us!). For more videos, visit Joystiq. %Gallery-14343%

Fresh from Japan for visual consumption, GameVideos got hold of some Bionic Commando Rearmed multiplayer vids. We've placed the main multiplayer trailer above, with five other videos after the break. The M-rated title is still scheduled to release in May on XBLA and PSN for $10; the PC version may have a different price and features. No word yet when Capcom plans to release the totally obvious product tie-in of a real-world mechanized grappling arm at retail. %Gallery-14181%

Bionic Commando Rearmed's website unleashed a pre-emptive strike, announcing the game received a Mature rating from the ESRB. The ESRB has not yet listed the game on its own site. Having had some hands-on time with the game ourselves, the only reason we could come up with the title receiving the M-rating was due to the final scene. *SPOILER ALERT* The site states in one of its "communications" that the M-rating means players will see the "historically accurate" scene where Hitler's Master D's head pops like a can of Pringles -- but now in glorious HD. The communication jokes it'll be the "best five seconds of [its] entire life." %Gallery-14181%

  • Bionic Commando Rearmed rated M, guess why

The official Bionic Commando website has revealed that Bionic Commando Rearmed -- that's the XBLA version -- has received an M rating from the ESRB. The rating was announced via a nifty communicator dialogue reminiscent of the original game (you can see a capture of it above). So, why would a game with no blood and extremely tame violence get an M rating? If you've ever played the original and completed it, we'll give you three guesses. Yes, the reason is that Bionic Commando Rearmed features a recreation of the climactic scene from the original game. You know the one. If by chance you don't know the one, you can find a video after the break (it occurs at 0:10). Be warned, it's spoilerific. And sploderific.

Simon Viklund, creative director at GRIN -- the studio behind both Bionic Commando Rearmed and the upcoming next-gen remake -- has announced on the team's blog that Bionic Commando Rearmed is "approaching completion." According to Viklund, the game will enter the approval process (which presumably includes Microsoft certification) "within weeks." The project is currently undergoing the final steps of development, with GRIN adding the last layer of polish and making sure the game performs properly. No other details are given regarding the game, though Viklund does note that GRIN has a "passion for the old gaming heritage" and that the team is already considering future projects centered around older games. Dare we hope for an HD remake of Mega Man? Ghouls and Ghosts perhaps?

Would you pay $10 or $15 for Bionic Commando Rearmed? Unsurprisingly, the results of the latest Capcom survey show that people want to pay less for a game. Fancy that, huh?Bionic Commando Rearmed is an upcoming PSN remake of the original NES adventure. It revamps the classic 2D gameplay with a few new moves, and includes a new graphical makeover. Yeah, if it were $15, we'd still get it -- glad to know that it's going to be cheap, though.Expect Rearmed to hit the PSN, XBLA and PC this May.[Via Joystiq]

With the risk of sounding mean, Japanese companies rarely pay attention to their audience. At one point Sony execs refused to believe in social gaming and Nintendo thought online play was a fad but thankfully that mentality is changing. One company inparticular is attempting to reach out to gamers, in this age of social media, and that company is Capcom. Recent announcements make us think that Capcom's latest mission statement is to focus on community feedback. With polling consumers for the price-point of Bionic Commando: Rearmed and allowing gamers to beta test the hottly anticipated Street Fighter II HD Remix (SSFIITHDR that is), Capcom's focus is pointed at what their fans want and think. It's a refreshing approach and gamers are taking notice. Today we noticed the insane amount of footage that came out of Capcom's recent event, Capcom Digital Day. At the event Capcom showcased the upcoming pseudo-expansion Lost Planet Colonies and their upcoming library of XBLA releases. While Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix were all known quantities, Capcom also showed of the HD remake of the classic top-down shooter 1942 which was recently announced. Jump in for a breakdown of each of the XBLA games and a ton of video starting with the title Street Fighter fans will be clawing all over, for the beta that is, Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3.

Creating a game with XNA might be a great fit for the mathematically inclined but for those of us that know the closest we'd like to get to Pi is an eating contest, Capcom has a solution in the form of a contest. Gamers worldwide and over the age of 18 are being invited to design a challenge level for the upcoming XBLA, PSN and PC release of the NES remake, Bionic Commando: Rearmed. Leave your programing skills at the door, Capcom wants all submissions in the form of an image and the top prize will get both the level inserted into the game as well as your name added to the credits. Multiple entries are allowed and will be accepted until 11:59 Pacific standard time on March 12, 2008. We'll also throw in a shiny nickel for anyone who designs their winning entry as an homage to X3F. Hit the read link for complete deets on the competition. %Gallery-14199%

  • Bionic Commando Rearmed will feature Remote Play

As if you needed another reason to pick up Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Stephen Totilo of MTV Multiplayer has received confirmation from a Capcom representative that the NES remake will be playable on the PSP. The game will be available from the PSN this May and will feature full remote-play capabilities. This will allow you to play the game anywhere in the world as long as you've got a wi-fi signal. Not bad eh? Rearmed joins PixelJunk Monsters and Lair as some of the games that currently allow Remote Play. We certainly look forward to more third parties taking advantage of the system. So if you have a PS3, a PSP, a love of old school 2D platformers and are too lazy to get out of bed, you can still play Bionic Commando: Rearmed. Not bad, eh?

As discovered by MTV Multiplayer, the upcoming PSN title, Bionic Commando: Rearmed is coming to PSP, via PS3 and Remote Play. The title, which originally started as a PSP-exclusive title, made the jump to the next-gen consoles with much enthusiasm. Good thing to see PSP owners aren't left behind, though. Rearmed joins the slowly-growing line-up of titles that support Remote Play, such as PixelJunk Monsters and Lair.Of course, this feature will not be available on the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game.

  • Size restrictions hurting Bionic Commando Rearmed XBLA release

Capcom can't catch a break with their XBLA line-up as yet another release seems to be suffering from the current 150MB size restriction. In an interview with 1UP, Bionic Commando Rearmed producer Ben Judd outlined issues the development team is having with getting the NES remake to fit onto the acceptable Microsoft limit. What does this mean for the XBLA version? Well, PS3 and PC versions of the upcoming remake may will have higher-resolution textures than their XBLA counterpart. When asked about the situation Microsoft seemed surprised by Capcom's trouble, "We raised our limit to 150 megs, which seems pretty darn great," said Microsoft's corporate VP of Xbox Live John Schappert. "I don't think it has limited our games in any way. Look at Rez HD. Look at Poker Smash. Look at Undertow. These are very, very, very good games." Schappert, however, remains optimistic that a solution is possible. "If we need to help them program their stuff, we have people on [XNA General Manager] Chris Satchell's team that fly around and help our dev teams out when they need it," Schappert explained. "[Capcom] knows someone's number at Xbox Live. I'm certainly willing to help them out." At it's core (pun!) the XBLA size limit issue is centered around the Arcade SKU which does not include the removable hard drive. The size limit, originally 50MB, was standardized in order to respect Xbox 360 owners who only have storage via a memory unit. We wonder though, since memory units range up to 512MB why isn't this limit increasing to facilitate heavily anticipated XBLA titles? Update: Clarified the statement from Ben Judd. Judd told 1UP that the XBLA version will in fact have lower-res textures than the PS3/PC versions. [via 1UP]

Bionic Commando Rearmed, the PSN remake of the original NES game Bionic Commando (which is receiving a sequel on the PS3 later this year, also entitled Bionic Commando - confused yet?) is pegged to be unleashed onto the PSN Store this May. The news comes out of various interviews during GDC with Capcom representatives. This is a lot earlier than we expected to see it, but we're certainly not complaining!1Up is also reporting that the PSN version of Rearmed will feature higher-resolution textures than the Xbox Live version. This is due to Microsoft's 150MB limit for games on Xbox Live Arcade putting restrictions on the file size of the game's textures. It's nice to know that Capcom won't have to compromise the quality of the game for the PlayStation Network. We just wonder whether the game will feature a 5GB install ...Read - "Xbox Live Arcade Size Limits Limiting Capcom Games?" @ 1UpRead - "Bionic Commando Rearmed aims for May" @ Joystiq
