Tickets to BlizzCon 2011 are going on sale today, and if past years' sales are any indication, tickets will sell out fast -- probably in the first second. You read that right. One damn second. That's a pretty strong testament to peoples' love for the Blizzard brand. After all, there are plenty of reasons to not want to go to BlizzCon. Tickets are more expensive than ever, costing $175 each. For many of us, lodging and airfare are even bigger expenses. And after spending what may amount to a thousand dollars or more, most our time at BlizzCon will be spent waiting in lines. Line after line after line after line. And yet, despite all those reasons not to go, tickets will still sell out today in 1 second. Given the long odds and high costs of attending, are you still going to be trying to get that elusive ticket (or four) to BlizzCon 2011 today? Or are you taking a pass this year?

It's that time of the year again: the time where you sit in front of your computer and hope that you can be one of the lucky ones to get a BlizzCon 2011 ticket. They sell out fast -- usually within the first couple of seconds, so you'll need to be at your computer beforehand and quickly reload the page many times before the sale starts in order to grab a ticket. Each household can order up to four tickets. This first batch will go on sale tomorrow -- Saturday, May 21, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. EDT / 12:00 p.m. CDT / 10:00 a.m. PDT. You can order them from the Blizzard Store at this page. Be sure to log in to the Blizzard Store beforehand, so you'll be all set to go without incident. Another batch of tickets will go on sale May 25. BlizzCon 2011 itself happens Oct. 21 and 22 in Anaheim, California.

Tomorrow is a big day: It's the scheduled date for both BlizzCon ticket sales and the second coming of Christ. OK, credibility on that second thing is sketchy at best, but the ticket sales are a sure thing. The sales dates were announced back in April, and veteran BlizzCon fans know to be lightning fast when purchasing tickets. If you're new to all of this, it's important to note that all 20,000 tickets were snapped up in under an hour last year, so you'll need to be ready. The first wave of tickets will go on sale tomorrow morning at 1:00 p.m. EDT, and if you're not quite fast enough, you can try for the second batch on May 25th. Check out all the ticket types and prices on the BlizzCon site, and good luck!

Start working out your index finger now, you've only got until May 21 to get into top clicking shape and secure your tickets to the Nerd-vana that is Blizzcon 2011. But there are two bits of good news for slow-pokes: (1) A second swath of passes will go on sale on May 25 and (2) Blizzard has upped prices by $25 to $175. That should knock out some your penny-pinching competitors, right? If you want a start with either the May 21 or 25 batches, start refreshing Blizzcon.com feverishly at around 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. PST, respectively. You'll also want to make sure you can make it to Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California on Oct. 21 and October 22, otherwise, what was the point? If all else fails, you could wait till May 28 and pay $500 to gain entry to an exclusive Blizzard charity dinner and the convention. What would the dinner conversation be like with people who have that kind of cash to drop on Blizzcon? We've got no guesses, but suffice to say we'd love to be a Darkmist Silkspinner on that wall.

Get those credit cards ready and be prepared to move quickly, because the folks at BlizzCon have announced the dates for ticket sales. If previous years are any indication, you're going to have to get your tickets almost immediately or not at all -- last year 20,000 passes sold out in less than one hour total. Regular tickets will go on sale in two batches; the first round will be on on May 21st and the second on May 25th, and each pass is priced at $175. If you're feeling like splurging, you can wait until the 28th and spring for a benefit dinner ticket for $500. These tickets benefit the Children's Hospital of Orange County and grant you access to a pre-BlizzCon dinner with members of the Blizzard team in addition to granting you that coveted BlizzCon pass. Finally, you can watch from the comfort of your own home for $39.99 thanks to a virtual ticket. Virtual tickets will get you comprehensive live streaming coverage, and the dates on that one are coming soon. Check the BlizzCon site for all the details.

Blizzard has announced via the BlizzCon site that tickets for BlizzCon 2011 will be available for purchase in two batches: once on May 21 at 10 a.m. Pacific time, and a second time on May 25 at 7 p.m. Pacific time. The price has increased (again) to $175 per ticket. Virtual tickets will be available for $39.95, the same as last year. Those wishing to attend the charity dinner can do so by purchasing the $500 ticket at Saturday, May 28 at 10 a.m. Pacific time. [EDIT: May 25th ticket sales start at 7 p.m. PT, not 7 a.m. PT.]

  • New social site launches for coordinating meetups at BlizzCon

The Bronze Kettle, the long-running player blog focusing on crafting and community for WoW players, has launched a new site. Owner and former WoW Insider crafting blogger Shelbi Roach announced Looking for Group: BlizzCon. The basic premise is one that I'm surprised no one's done before (as many great ideas are, really): LFGBlizzCon is a site for coordinating meetups and other activities during the con. Shelbi describes it as a "simplified social networking site dedicated to those of us who plan on attending BlizzCon this year. I wanted to create this site so we can all get to know each other online and then meet up at the con." To be honest, while I can see how that would work, it also seems to me it would be useful for people who already know each other as an easy-to-use, one-stop coordinator for how they plan to hang out during the convention. Either way, it's a neat idea and good people behind it, so go give it a look-see.

Blizzard has announced the dates for this year's BlizzCon, the annual gathering of fans who want to celebrate the fact that they got tickets to BlizzCon (and also celebrate Blizzard games). The event will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center on October 21 and 22. Blizzard hasn't announced any specific content yet, so we don't know who will fulfill the Ozzy or Tenacious D role. However, chances are you know enough about your relationship with Diablo, Starcraft, and World of Warcraft to know right now whether or not you want to go.

In a surprise move this morning, Blizzard has announced BlizzCon 2011. The event will run on Friday, Oct. 21 and Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. There has been no other information given on tickets, specific announcements (like the next expansion), musical acts, etc. ... all that will be coming out in the next nine months. In fact, this announcement is by far the earliest the con has ever been announced. The full Blizzard PR statement after the break.
