Bob Dylan DLC pack for Rocksmith 2014 will give you the blues (and the other colors the game uses, too)
Oh the times, they are a-changin'. Or rather, the times, they are a-stayin' the same, because once again, Rocksmith 2014 has new DLC for all aspiring guitarists on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. This time, it's rockabilly legend Bob Dylan's songs up for grabs. You can get "Like A Rolling Stone," "Just Like A Woman" and "Subterranean Homesick Blues" for $2.99 each or $7.99 for the three-song pack on Xbox Live, PSN or Steam. As hard as some of Dylan's songs might be for your fingers, they'd be a whole lot harder if Rocksmith 2014 also required you to sing along in Dylan's voice. [Image: Ubisoft]
Dylan's 'Like a Rolling Stone' gets awesome interactive music video 48 years later
The jugglers and the clowns are out in full force for this one. It's probably not exactly what Bob Dylan was envisioning when he penned "Like a Rolling Stone" lo so many decades ago, but it's a pretty terrific tribute to the folk-rock classic directed by YouTube hero Vania Heymann. You can flip through several stations featuring the likes of Marc Maron, Drew Carey, Danny Brown and the Pawn Stars synced masterfully with the track. The video commemorates the recent release of the 47-disc set The Complete Album Collection, Vol. 1. [Thanks, Jeff]
EVE Spotlight: An interview with Kyoko Sakoda
EVE Spotlight is a biweekly feature in which we interview prominent members of EVE Online's player community or development team. Twice each month, we'll be shining the spotlight on a player or developer who has a significant impact on EVE to highlight the efforts of EVE's most influential people. Whether you love EVE Online or hate it, there's no doubting that the game's community has produced some great works of art. From wallpapers and papercraft ships to music parodies and incredible cinematic videos, EVE has seen more than its fair share of creative efforts over the years. In EVE's colossal social sandbox, players often use their real-life talents to make a name for themselves in the community, and this spotlight's interviewee is no exception. Film-maker Kyoko Sakoda has popped up on our radar several times, impressing players with his awesome contributions to EVE's cinematic film scene. Kyoko debuted with the well-composed 2008 video Push Eject (The Angel Cartel). Hoping to showcase the pirate way of life, he produced this video to celebrate the future release of faction warfare and the role piracy would play in it. Kyoko went on to produce War Has Come and worked with Kale Ryoko on the incredible cinematic work Future Proof. The holographic UI components Kyoko produced in Future Proof mirror those used in CCP's own Butterfly Effect trailer, and the success of those videos may even be pushing CCP to develop similar 3-D user interface elements for EVE. In this edition of EVE Spotlight, we interview film-maker Kyoko Sakoda to ask about his previous videos and get the low-down on his next big project.
Interview: Audio Director Kristofor Mellroth on the sounds of Crackdown 2
It's fair to say Crackdown was a surprise -- even if you didn't buy it for the Halo 3 beta key, odds are that you downloaded the demo and found a pretty impressive pre-GTA IV open-world shooter. That seems like a blessing and a curse for Audio Director Kristofor Mellroth and the rest of the dev team at Ruffian Games working on the sequel: on the one hand, we have fond memories of the original game, but on the other, there are more great open-world games out there now. Will we go back to Pacific City now that we've got a choice? Mellroth is doing everything on his end to make sure that we do. From the music of the game (which features remixes from the likes of Bob Dylan and Creedence Clearwater Revival, as well as electronic beats by artists like Tokyo Black Star and Adam Freeland) to gunshots, explosions, and the ever-present tones of Michael McConnohie, he's put a lot of thought into what Crackdown 2 should sound like and why. Bob Dylan to mumble GPS directions?
When it comes to enunciation, Bob Dylan falls somewhere between Scooby Doo and Miss Teen USA South Carolina. But people love their celebrities (and irony) so even Dylan could have a bright future in GPS navigation voiceover work. Mr. Zimmerman admitted to "talking to a couple of car companies about the possibility of being the voice of their GPS system," during his late-night BBC radio show. Naturally, it will happen with all the press he's received. And when it does you'll be on you own with no direction home, dig?
Rock Band 2 on-disc track list revealed, features over 80 songs
Harmonix has just unveiled the full song set list for the upcoming Rock Band 2. There will be a whopping 84 songs on the disc, and an additional 20 songs available as free DLC after the game's release. The set list is comprised entirely of master recordings, and features AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Bob Dylan, Metallica, Pearl Jam and more.The entire list is available after the cut.
Bob Dylan iPod ad on Apple.com
Even the great Mr. Dylan is getting in on the iPod promo fun, as a new iPod ad featuring the man himself has been posted on Apple's site. This particular iPod ad seems to break away from the norm, featuring a non-silhouetted Dylan, a plain white background and a dancer + iPod. It's also a promotion for Bob's new album, Modern Days (iTMS link), which we blogged a while back (that mega box set, titled The Collection, is also now available - iTMS link).In fact, in the same vein of this ad's breakaway theme, it doesn't even look that good. The white is an ugly off-white, and they might as well have made Bob a silhouette - given that the lighting on him is so crummy. The guy may be a little older these days, but he's still an icon, y'know?Either way, it's nice to see a truly influential cultural figurehead like Bob Dylan receiving the iTunes + iPod love.Thanks Andrew
FCC approves three XM radios, production to resume shortly
XM lovers rejoice! The FCC has finally determined that three XM radios with FM transmitters are in the clear. XM had to cease production back in late May to give time to the Feds to check out its products. Specifically, the FCC approved the Audiovox Xpress, the Delphi RoadyXT and the XM Sportscaster. XM has notified its manufacturers to get those conveyor belts rolling again, just in time for the holidy shopping season, which, by the way, is due to start any day now. Now that XM is back on track, free Bob Dylan for everyone! Well, that's what we'd like for the holidays.
Columbia Records & Apple offer exclusive pre-order of Bob Dylan's new album, ticket promo
I guess the times certainly are a changin', as the man Bob Dylan himself has hopped on board with Apple and the iTunes Music Store to offer an exclusive pre-order ($13.99) of his upcoming new album, Modern Times, which lands on August 29th. Ticketmaster has even tossed their hat in, just like with the Red Hot Chili Peppers promo back in April, and is offering a pre-sale ticket opportunity for select dates on Mr. Dylan's tour to fans who pre-order the album.Now if that isn't enough Bob for you, Apple has also created a digital box set simply called 'The Collection' which boasts 800 songs, but be careful using that one-click purchase option: it's $199, and also lands on the 29th. "Bob Dylan is one of the most respected poets and musicians of our time, and he is a personal hero of mine," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, calling this opportunity a "a real thrill for us."Modern Times (iTMS link) is available for pre-order today, and fans who purchase it will receive a Ticketmaster code by email which can be used to get in on that pre-sale at Ticketmaster.com starting August 30th, while the tickets go on sale to the public September 9th.
