That copy of Resistance 2 looking a little dated? Fancy it up with some new digs, and by that we mean insert art, courtesy of the PlayStation Blog. Three covers are available to download from the blog's official Flickr page to redress Nathan Hale's latest adventure: the original North American box art (not pictured), the Ying-and-yang art from Europe (pictured left) and an extreme close-up design that would make Wayne Campbell proud. We're all for changing it up, but something tells us PlayStation fans are more eager to swap out their Resistance 2 discs for something a little more intense.

  • Avert your eyes! Stormrise box art revealed, hideous

Stormrise is an upcoming console RTS from The Creative Assembly, developer of the Total War series. Among the standard promise of intuitive console controls, Creative Assembly is introducing "verticality" to console RTS players. Units can be deployed in the air, on rooftops, at ground level, or below the planet's surface. Okay. So far, so good ... Uh-oh, wait a minute. Stormrise's box art looks like the class project of a paint-by-numbers after school program. Sure, it's the game inside that matters -- and we're excited for it -- but imagine if, instead of saying Stormrise on the cover, the box read RoboCop vs. Zombies. This art would still totally work, and probably be twice as rad.

March 16th will mark the tenth anniversary of the original EverQuest, and Sony Online Entertainment plans to make this year something special for its fans. To kick off the festivities, they're unveiling the cover art for a new book that showcases the game's legacy. EverQuest: The 10th anniversary Collector's Edition includes "essays and photos of the events, products, personalities and art that graced the world of Norrath over the years." It also boasts some amazing cover art created by Donato Giancola, and dedicated to the late Keith Parkinson, the painter of EQ's original box art. Parkinson passed away on October 26th, 2005 after a battle with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. You can pre-order the book from Brady Games, before it becomes available in March.

click to embiggen Today is a day rich in new Resident Evil 5 content -- just not the kind you can actually play. Earlier, you got a peek at some new levels through our Expertly Trained Lens© (that's right, we own the copyright) and now, well, here's the official box art. Cue the oohing and the ahhing. As for that demo you may or may not be currently playing offline, a sanctioned worldwide release is not scheduled until early next year. The RE5 demo has been delayed due to unspecified complications, as we reported yesterday. But with the game's March 13th release date fast approaching, we can't imagine Capcom will continue to play the Vague Excuse Card (this one's public domain) much longer.%Gallery-5253%

Here's the official European box art for Killzone 2. Just because. Majed Athab - I was going to play Call of Duty: World at War this weekend, but I finished it yesterday. I also finally picked up Dead Space, which I'm hoping to finish. Then, if time permits me, there'll be some more Resistance 2 somewhere in there. Oh and the "packing game" because I'll be traveling on Monday. Jem Alexander - Mirror's Edge is ridiculously addictive, so no doubt I'll be continuing with that this weekend. After that? God knows. Still got a million games in their shrink wrap to play, but I'll probably keep playing Valkyria Chronicles and maybe some multiplayer Quantum of Solace. Alan Tsang - I may unwrap my copy of Resistance 2, maybe. But I'll definitely be playing more Dead Space and LittleBigPlanet. Andrew Yoon - Killzone 2. And not the beta. =D (Embargo ends December, folks. Can't talk about it until then!)

  • Wrath shipped to stores, copies being sold early at 7-11

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/pc_games/Wrath_of_the_Lich_King_being_sold_at_7_11_right_now'; We're getting multiple reports that Blizzard has shipped Wrath of the Lich King out to stores -- one of our readers in Australia ordered the CE and actually got his edition shipped to him already (the game will install, but won't run yet), a few Gamestops around the country have confirmed that they have copies in store (though not for sale yet), and a few people have told us that they've already picked up their copies at 7-11 (notorious for suddenly selling games, and then very recently selling them early). So odds are that you might be able to grab the game early from stores that are breaking the street date, but it does appear that Blizzard hasn't actually flipped the switch on the expansion, and likely won't do it until tomorrow evening. We'll keep an eye out for more places Wrath may have already popped up.Update: Thanks to one of our readers for sending along the pic of his Wrath box and the receipt above. The game is indeed shipped and being sold, though Blizzard is saying Northrend won't be available until Wednesday evening. Another reader picture of a purchased game after the break. Are you ready for the challenges that await you in Northrend? WoW Insider has you covered with our 8-day guide to Preparing for Wrath. Also, check out our feature on AddOns new, old and outdated and Essential AddOns for Wrath written especially with the expansion in mind.

Click to defeat Captain Marvel! They said it was impossible. They pointed and laughed, and called it names. But, just as Batman's license holders have every right to pit him in a crossover battle against an alien hunter will dreadlocks, they may also call upon the Dark Knight to beat a fire-burping, undead ninja within an inch of its tortured life -- just as long as he doesn't go that extra inch, ya know? (Off topic: So is Two-Face dead or what?) Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is very real folks, and here's the box art to prove it:%Gallery-23376%

  • Finally, Left 4 Dead box art fixed!

You know, we like puns and silly humor here at the Joystiq Network (just look at any headline from Alexander or Ludwig). Valve? Now there's a committed bunch to a joke. Months ago Valve released the box art for its upcoming co-op infused shooter, Left 4 Dead. The box art followed a simple, yet witty checklist: Deformed hand of a dead zombie? Check. Four fingers shouting out to the title and number of players in a squad? Check. But, something was ... missing. Today, Valve corrected one tiny error to make the joke complete. The original image on the box art has been flipped to appear as though it were a left hand. Get it? Left. 4. Dead. We really hope no one paid extra for a few Photoshop keystrokes. This ain't your daddy's Bionic Commando. Actually, this really isn't even your Commando really, considering younger gamers have been reintroduced to the series with Bionic Commando Rearmed. Wait...who is this guy? The appropriately named action adventure features a dreaded-out Nathan Spencer as he battles a terrorist threat within the fictional Ascension City. Owners of Bionic Commando Rearmed also have the ability to play the game skinned as the original Nathan "Rad" Spencer using a code found within the game. Bionic Commando, from Swedish developer GRIN, is set to swing (pun!) into action this holiday season. Gallery: Bionic Commando

You knew there was no way Warner Home Video was letting its crown jewel release of 2008 slip until after the holiday season, right? As expected, the studio has just revealed that the latest tale in Batman's life on the silver screen will be outed on BD this December 9th. It's also expected that the film will be available in a standard edition and two-disc limited edition box that comes with a Bat-Pod display case. The film in each set will be presented in 1080p with a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack, and a few swank HD extras should be wrapped in as well. No price is given just yet, but c'mon, you're buying this.

click to make little ... BIG! Life at Joystiq HQ used to feel a lot like Mount Crumpit. It was cold and lonely and it just seemed like our hearts were, in the words of Dr. Seuss, "two sizes too small." (That, and Ludwig refused to take his damned antler ears off.) But then LittleBigPlanet rolled along and slapped the cynical smirk clean off our faces. And -- wouldn't you know it? -- our hearts grew three sizes that day.%Gallery-1943%

Video games have given so much to you, isn't it time you do your civic duty and give back? IGN is providing the perfect opportunity allowing you, the public, to vote on the cover art for the Resistance 2 Collector's Edition. OK, so it's not exactly Obama/McCain, but you work with what you've got.IGN says that Insomniac is offering the choice to fans because "the studio can't seem to make up its mind," which is insulting to your intelligence, but probably not so insulting that you should avoid the vote all together. After all, it's not just a right, it's a responsibility.%Gallery-30495%

  • Vote for your favorite Resistance 2 LE cover at IGN

    08.26.2008

Video game cover art usually comes in two flavors: "awesome" and "please put the box face-down and never show that to me again." Insomniac is looking for your help to make sure Resistance 2's box art belongs squarely in the first category, by asking you to vote on your favorite cover art over at IGN. More specifically, this is to vote for the Collector's Edition which, let's be honest here, the majority of you will be picking up on launch day. Of the three images, only one stands out to us as the clear winner (we wonder if you can guess which one ...), but maybe you have different ideas. Let us know which one you've picked in the comments after you've cast your vote. Just head on over to IGN and click the correct link at the bottom to email the correct vote. Also, notice the "Only on PlayStation" and "PlayStation Network" logo at the top. Looks pretty nice, if you ask us. We're looking forward to seeing these logos printed at the top of many more PS3 games in the future.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Valve's Doug Lombardi just shot us an email containing the final box art for ... wait, what was it again? Something about "Left" and "Dead." Ah, that's right! It's Left 4 Dead. Thanks, Mangled Hand! What would we have done without you? It's a shame you won't be able to grace the cover of the sequel, though. Perhaps your brother could ... unless he's let all that money he got from the Dead Space cover shoot go to his head thumb.

  • WoW's Wrath of the Lich King box art leaked

What is with all these World of Warcraft leaks? If you knew where to look everything you wanted to know about WotlK was already exposed before Blizzard Entertainment's World Wide Invitational extravaganza. For shame, not even the WotlK box art is safe from prying eyes and camera phones. WoW Insider already exposed the box art for the Collector's Edition, and the same source has also obtained snaps of the basic box art.Is it the real deal or a mocked-up forge? The WotlK box layout has many exact elements used on The Burning Crusade box. The placement for the Blizzard logo and ESRB rating line up exactly, and the font used to spell 'expansion set' is identical to its cardboard predecessor. In another photo that lends to its authenticity is a printer's mark. The box also notes that you need The Burning Crusade to play Wrath of the Lich King which means no free TBC bundles.Hopefully, it won't be long until those boxes are stuffed with the goods and shipped to retail where we can pick them up because what comes on the inside of the box is what matters. Unless you're one of those weirdoes that save game boxes and treasures them for eternity. If you are feeling lucky skip the box altogether and try your hand at the WotlK beta-lottery.

  • Rumor: Wrath of the Lich King Collector's Edition box

Here's some good Wrath of the Lich King rumor-juice for you tonight. Pictured to the right is what has shown up on the internet as a Wrath of the Lich King Collector's Edition box. I for one think it looks real. It was posted on the Paladin Schmaladin blog two months ago, although reader Allen just tipped us to it this evening. The poster over there notes that the box comes from her friend Gene, who supposedly works at a printing facility. Gene couldn't get one out of the printing factory, so instead he snapped an image of the box with his cellphone.Through Paladin Schmaladin, we're also told that the printing press had the WotLK box orders pushed back four months. This could be an indication that Lich King will be coming out later than expected, although since Blizzard hasn't really announced a release date, we'd probably never know the difference.Nonetheless, enjoy your nightly WotLK rumor. It looks to be a good one.Click the image for a larger high-res version.
