Plenty of guilds talk the big talk and DPS the raid meters, but when the chips are down and the final call is uttered, which one guild will stand on top of the mountain of geek corpses and be proclaimed "Champion?" In most MMOs, that would be rhetorical nonsense, but not in Archlord, where guilds will compete in the first World Guild Championship to earn a $10,000 prize and the recognition of their peers. The game's first combined server guild tournament kicks off on June 11th and features pitched PvP battles between guilds to climb the bracket and claim the big prize. All participants will be given a preset character with standard gear in order to minimize any in-game advantages. In order to preregister for the tournament, guilds will have to complete a special in-game quest. Registration for the World Guild Championship runs from now through May 30th, with the official brackets announced a few days later on June 4th. Archlord will be hosting special in-game events and handing out fun prizes for everyone during this time.

  • Engadget Primed: Camera metering explained

Primed goes in-depth on the technobabble you hear on Engadget every day -- we dig deep into each topic's history and how it benefits our lives. You can follow the series here. Looking to suggest a piece of technology for us to break down? Drop us a line at primed *at* engadget *dawt* com. Is learning how to meter with your camera really necessary? With all the intelligent models out today, who needs it, right? Well, you may, depending on the type of killer photography you hope to produce. When it comes to the person behind the camera, there are a few types of photographers. First, there's the photog who just wants to snap away, not terribly concerned about how their photos turn out -- or, at the very least, not interested in knowing how to alter the camera. If this describes you, that's fine -- the latest-and-greatest compact cameras may be your cup of tea. But then there's the amateur shooter who desires a better understanding of how their cameras determine exposure, and if you fit into this category, this piece should be right up your alley.Metering is not a subject you can easily master, let alone explain entirely in an article of this length, but we can give you an idea of how it all works. I consistently see the faces of my workshop students glaze over as I wax rhapsodic about the wonders of metering, but I also notice wry smiles from time to time, which shows me the wheels are turning -- they begin to realize all the things they can do if only they can conquer this aspect of photography. However, comprehension and applied mastery are two separate balls of wax. Putting what you learn to practice is the start, and you can improve over a number of months, but true metering control in any situation requires years of practice. So for our 2012 pre-apocalyptic installment of Primed, we'll break down the world of camera metering, giving you a bit of history, dissecting the main components, describing what your camera wants to do and telling you what the future may hold. By the end, you'll have a better understanding of this vital photographic topic... either that or you'll be in a nice deep sleep.Note: Check out our recent Primed articles on aperture and image sensors to add to your metering knowledge.

[Update 1: Fixed official host of March Madness to DS Fanboy. Hellz yeah!]Can you feel it? The millions of dollars of productivity just slipping away in a bracket-induced frenzy? This month, eight of the biggest contenders will go toe to toe in a winner-take-all bloodbath of pain and glory. The DS, by virtue of winning the last nineteen straight tournaments, has been officially eliminated from the competition. Vegas is giving 3:2 odds on the Wii, but inconsistent supply performance puts them on shaky ground. The PSP, which charged back late in the season to earn the number 1 seed, is playing its best right now, but the in-state rival PS3 is still a force to be reckoned with. The Xbox 360 has also shown marked improvement, with wonderful individual performances by Blue Dragon and Trusty Bell. We're totally picking the Gamecube, though. It's the cinderella story of the season! (Seeds were determined using this week's numbers. Next week's sales charts shall determine the winner!)(And go Gators!) - DS Lite: 108,512 3,302 (2.95%) - PSP: 56,175 9,981 (15.09%) - Wii: 44,495 13,477 (23.25%) - PS3: 32,115 11,885 (27.01%) - PS2: 14,585 779 (5.07%) - Xbox 360: 3,333 46 (1.36%) - Game Boy Micro: 812 7 (0.87%) - GBA SP: 679 59 (7.99%) - Gamecube: 240 63 (20.79%) - DS Phat: 119 7 (6.25%) - GBA: 13 12 (48%)[Source: Media Create]

If you have a Mac Mini you want to mount on a rack, but this seems like overkill to you, consider Power Support's Mac Mini Bracket. This bracket is attached to the underside of a desk or shelf and very effectively gets it out of the way. The kit includes all the hardware you will need plus eight adhesive pads designed to protect your Mac's finish. It will cost approximately $38 USD and is currently available only through Power Support's Japanese site, though it may show up on their US site soon.[Via 123MacMini]
