Crazy rich card game, role-playing, and now social networking company Wizards of the Coast has announced that it is venturing into the downloadable games space with a partnership with UK developer Stainless Games. Both parties remain tight lipped as to the nature of the project, though Stainless CEO Patrick Buckland teases us by calling the game "one of the most treasured IP's in the games field." While we wait for more information to come in early 2008, it's anyone's guess what will come of this digital love in, especially given Stainless Games' eclectic development history. The studio's recent efforts have been focused on recreating Atari classics for XBLA, though its roots are much less tame, having been responsible for the "racing game for the chemically imbalanced," Carmageddon, as well as its road stained sequel.

1UP recently posted this Burnout 5 image along with a lengthy preview (originally published in OPM). Clearly, we seen pedestrians strolling the sidewalk. So what's the explanation? Our gut tells us there won't be people in Burnout 5. 1UP's accompanying preview seems to agree, quoting audio director Nick Laviers, who states, "You don't see human beings in Burnout -- it's all about cars." It's unlikely that EA and Criterion would want to push the boundaries of the E(10+)-rating that Burnout Revenge managed. Throwing people into the carnage could lead the ESRB to smack the next Burnout with an M-rating, drastically reducing the potential consumer base. The image posted above is likely conceptual, or perhaps appears in some sort of FMV clip. Although we'd love to see Criterion experiment with ragdolls crashing through windshields (with first-person perspective replays!), we know better than to pine for some Carmageddon-like action.

Oh, praise be to the man who first welded a cannon to the bonnet of his otherwise unimpressive vehicle. This week's Xbox Live Arcade release is none other than Novadrome, a game that straps combat onto a four-wheeled monstrosity and rams it into a concrete barrier. As twisted chunks of black metal rain down, recall that the developer, Stainless Software, once gave us controversy poster child of yore, Carmageddon. Though distinctly lacking in unfortunate pedestrian targets, the game boasts eight-player matches, 15 arenas (they're in "3D," apparently), over 20 different vehicles, plenty of weapons and, perhaps most importantly, "gladiatorial robot opponents." Novadrome costs 800 MS points ($10) and releases this Wednesday, December 20th at 9AM GMT (1AM PST). [Full press release after the break.]

Gnome's Lair has posted a list -- with screenshots -- of "the most disturbing gaming scenes I've yet encountered." Maybe the list is incomplete, or maybe we've been too conditioned, but when browsing the selections, we didn't so much as twitch a muscle. C'mon is that it? You call that sick and twisted!Who out there is gonna dig up the real goods? Make us puke!We dare you.[Please, no non-gaming related links.]
