Let's go ahead and get this out of the way: we can't deny that the Iron Man Mark I case mod took some serious work (and skill). That being the case, it'd take a pretty hardcore fan of the character (or the new flick, we guess) to love this one with reckless abandon. Reportedly, the whole shebang was built in just three weeks, and while we're still waiting for the full work log, feel free to hit the read link for an array of angles.

  • Wooden portable NES lets you game in style

Sure, we've already got a wooden SNES, but sometimes we want to get a little rustic on some original SMB, and that's where Parker Dillmann's wooden NES comes in handy. Built around the guts of a Yobo NES clone and a 3.5-inch LCD, Dillmann did some major custom woodworking to get this rig going, and he says he's already got ideas for his next case. • Mac Pro Mini mod is almost the midrange tower Mac you've always wanted

Sure, we think the iMac is a nice machine, but sometimes you want to add a PCI card or six, and when the cheapest beslotted Mac starts at a whopping $2,799, mods like Hideo Takano's Mac Pro Mini just make you wonder what could have been. Of course, there are no slots in this bad boy either since it's based around a stock Mac mini with a 2.33GHz processor upgrade, but it is a mighty impressive effort -- actually, check out Hideo's whole Mac Mod Lab site for even more sick Mini mods.[Via Unplgged]

We don't know if this guy got his box running GLaDOS, but it sure as hell looks like standard issue Aperture Science, if you ask us. We'd like to see it running Portal though -- only that would be recursive enough for our tastes.[Thanks, Nick]

  • Phenom 9900-powered case mod could lift off at any moment

You know that potent 2.6GHz Phenom 9900 CPU that quite a few folks are waiting for? Apparently, exactly one of said chips has escaped the labs (with AMD's blessing, of course) and made its way into the sponsored (and recently completed) Project: Phenom gaming rig. Of course, the design here is way, way over the top, and while folks allergic to chrome and not so fond of blatant overkill may be scrunching their noses up right about now, there's no denying that it's packin' a nice set of internals. Hit up the read link for a gazillion and one images along with a number of construction videos -- just slip on your shades beforehand, cool?

  • Case mod throws tradition to the wind, uses heatsinks as enclosure

Typically, when you think case mod, you wonder just how tweaked a six-walled chassis can get. For Ville 'Willek' Kyrö, he figured that approach was much too constrictive. Instead, he used an array of heavy-duty heatsinks to actually build the frame that held the innards of Project: Passive. Needless to say, more heat pipes than we care to count were used along with what was likely miles of cable wrap, but hey, it's hard to complain with the end result. Hit up the read link to witness this thing's entire journey -- seven whole pages worth -- and make sure you've got a substantial chunk of unused vacation time before you even think of doing something similar.[Via Hack N Mod]

Without question we've seen GameCube mods more extravagant than this, but until something even more adorable comes to light, we're definitely giving the "Most Heartwarming" badge to this here creation. The Wall-E GameCube mod was inspired by the character in Disney's upcoming film (titled Wall-E, of all things), and hours upon hours of TLC were clearly poured into this concoction. We know you're eager for more angles of those eyes, so hit up the read link to get what you're after.[Via NintendoWiiFanboy]

  • iToilet case mod finally delivers upon the concept's amazing promise

"iToilet" may very well be the lamest running joke in all of Appledom -- at least one badly done render shows up for every Stevenote that goes by -- so it's nice to see it finally deliver. Some nerds found this here toilet sitting by a street, and after some ill-advised drilling and a few cans of spray paint they had a silver toilet complete with Apple logo and computer internals. Yeah, maybe not our idea of a fun weekend, but for an Apple fanboy this is the truest form of devotion. There's video after the break.

  • Caption contest: PS3 Rainbow Six Vegas diorama

This one's really bringing us back to eighth grade. Except, you know, replace dinosaurs with terrorists, and replace a real-live-working volcano with a PS3. Other than that it's exactly the same. Chris: "PlayStation Park, Las Vegas' latest theme hotel, has left much of the Strip uninhabitable thanks to the 800 degree Fahrenheit stream of air continually emitted from the side of the building." Josh: "Finally, something more gaudy and depressing than the actual Las Vegas." Nilay: "Note: Beds do not vibrate." or "We never noticed how much the Wynn looked like a Foreman grill." Paul: "I'll be in the garage if you need me, honey. Working on the, uh... car." Richard: "Ok, who left the Allspark next to the PS3?" Ittousai: "Vegas-based terrorist group with micropulse bomb is demanding backwards compatibility; more at 11." Steve: "Kutaragi: 'This hotel is probably too cheap'"Ross: "Voted loosest memory card slots on the Strip!" or "I'm putting all my Cell chips on Blu!" or "Yeah, it may have nine processing cores but are they synchronized to dancing fountains?"[Via technabob]

  • Knight Rider case mod does K.I.T.T. proud

Not everyone can afford to buy their own K.I.T.T. or K.I.T.T clone off eBay, but that doesn't mean you can't show your Knight Rider affection in other entirely non-subtle ways, as evidenced by this elaborate PC case mod by Thomas Fan (which we can only assume is not an alias for the 'Hoff himself). As you can see in the video after the break, the red LEDs faithfully mimic K.I.T.T.'s faint glimmer of intelligence and, while you can't carry on a conversation with it, you can at least make believe thanks to some familiar start-up and shutdown sounds. Sadly, Thomas hasn't provided any plans for building you own, though we're guessing that when it comes to something like Knight Rider, most fans would prefer to put their own personal touch on things anyway.

  • This Weighted Companion Cube casemod will never threaten to stab you

... in fact, it cannot speak but that hasn't stopped the diminutive mod from winning over the hearts of even the most console-exclusive gamer. Sure, there's not a lot of pixel-power in modder Magnus Persson's tiny 8" cube – a low-power Via Epia EX1500G supplies the brains for the box – but it's got moxie dammit and it would rather die in a fire than become a burden to you. Got that song stuck in your head? You know, the song. Go ahead, hum a few bars, nobody's going to notice. "This was a triumph..." Bet it's in there now! Now, while you spend the next 6-8 weeks trying wrench that beautiful melody from you head, you can concentrate on the harm you've caused to innocent weighted companion cubes over the world, and think about making restitution. Take this homage built by Magnus Persson, for example: it allows the cube to fulfill a higher calling as a case for a VIA Epia EX1500G, and it looks pretty too -- it's almost like that little incident never happened!

  • The Stephenson G-Metric Nano casemod is pure Bioshock

The old cliche informs us that a picture is worth a thousand words, and in the case of Jeffery Stephenson's PC enclosures -- that's most definitely true. His latest design comes in the form of a sleek, tiny deco-styled wooden box, crafted from a disused cigar humidor and loaded with a VIA NX15000 Nano-ITX motherboard, 1GB of RAM, and a hidden optical drive around the side. The end result comes off looking like some time-warp artifact straight out of Bioshock -- and leaves us wishing Mr. Stephenson would get into mass production of these babies. Hit the read link for far more details on the case, and be sure to check out Jeffery's other amazing designs.[Via Wired]

  • Wii Warm Up: Your dream mod

This Clerks Wii case mod from serial modder Ramon Stokes came straight out of left field, and its sheer randomness delighted us, even though the Metroid Wii above (also by the same chap) remains this blogger's all-time favorite. Alas, yours truly lacks Ramon's mad skillz (Pritt Stick remains a considerable challenge), meaning I'm limited to daydreaming about how my awesome Pilotwings Wii case mod would look. Reader, in my head, it is majestic. What about you lot, though? If you could modify your Wii's tidy, white exterior in any way you liked, regardless of cost or a lack of talent, how would you want it to look?

Ramon Stokes is clearly the go-to person when it comes to prettying up the Wii. First, there was this Zelda mod, then this Metroid mod, and after that this really great Rockstar mod. Now, he's at it again, this time with a Wii mod commissioned for Kevin Smith himself. As you can see, the casemod features the four main Clerks characters on the front. The back has a View Askew insignia, and the Nunchucks are labeled "Kevin Smith" and "Silent Bob" (though we're not sure how Smith would manage to play as himself and his movie persona at the same time). This beauty was commissioned as a Christmas gift for Kevin Smith, and took about 60 hours to make. Well done, Ramon; you manage to impress us time and time again.More pictures of this mod can be seen after the jump!

  • Cardboard case mod comes ready to ship

Calling that thing pictured above a "case mod" is a near travesty, but we're at a loss for words outside of that. This box is almost devoid of specifications entirely, but judging by the artwork on the "chassis," it's powered by a totally rare Intel Pentium 3 CPU, hums along on Ubuntu and features a curiously placed fan, audio in / out, VGA output, a power supply and lots of fasteners tape. Truth be told, we're not even certain this concoction is capable of processing anything, but at least it's primed for a shipping label should the creator opt to cut his / her losses.[Via Technabob]

  • NES PC up for auction, emulation addicts rejoice

    12.04.2007

Yeah, the NES PC is old hat, but if you just can't find the time to create one for yourself, why not pay some diligent soul for their hard work rather than living another month without one? Available via eBay, this finely crafted piece of art won't crank through any of the latest PC titles, but it comes with plenty of horsepower (and peripherals) to handle all the emulation you can stand. Granted, Americans will have to fork over additional coinage to have it shipped in from France, but flooring a room full of nerds at your forthcoming holiday bash will most certainly make it worthwhile. Check out the auction along with an in-action video at the read link below.[Via Technabob]

  • Media center meets piano, results are questionable

We've all ideas the creator of the Compiano thinks that it's pretty hot stuff, but we're not sure the end result is what we'd deem elegant. Nevertheless, it's hard to argue with the utility here -- after all, it's not everyday that you can sit at one bench and play a few measures of Chopin while watching the Hiphopapotamous vs. Rhymenoceros clip that you recorded months back. The 1904 Chickering Upright Grand Piano may not seem all that unique at first glance, but hidden behind its mahogany frame is a 26-inch Philips LCD HDTV and a full-blown Media Center PC complete with a half terabyte of storage space and 1GB of RAM. The bidding will start on this interesting mishmash at just under seven grand, but if you're not keen on waiting it out, you can make this your own for just $19,998. • 66-fan case mod exemplifies overkill

    11.25.2007

We've seen some pretty questionable case mods involving additional fans, but this one will likely hold top honors until something even more extravagant comes around. The "Super Cooler" straps a grand total of 66 fans around the tower, which probably doesn't do a whole lot of good when all's said and done. Truth be told, we've all ideas that this thing was created more so for people to gawk at than to actually enable users to run uber-overclocked CPUs and graphics cards without the use of water, but whatever the case, it's an interesting (if not cacophonic) take on cooling. Hit the read link for lots more images, and keep those fingers a safe distance away, k?[Via Uber-Review]

  • Maid PC handles everyday computing, shuns housework

We're not quite sure what type of individual would actually enjoy having that thing pictured above sitting prominently in any room of their domicile, but for those too lazy to come up with their own case mod, this pre-fabricated alternative ain't half bad. The M4125 Maid PC would admittedly be much more of a woman if she actually came with a top half, but all aesthetics aside, users looking at this PC purely for shock value will find a mini-ITX motherboard, room for a trio of 3.5-inch HDDs, a single optical drive, DVI out, a number of USB ports, audio in / out and what appears to be a set of PS/2 connectors for a mouse and keyboard. Sadly, we've no idea what type of CPU or graphics set this fair lady comes bundled with, but let's be honest, you'll be plunking down the ¥35,800 ($304) regardless of what's inside if you're digging the exterior.[Via Hobby Blog]
