Details of Book 12 lovin' for Champions
Turbine representative Graalx2 visited the The Lord of the Rings Online's official forums and revealed the beneficial changes players of the Champion class can expect in Book 12. The Champion is one of the most popular classes in LotRO, but its players have been crying out for some patch lovin' for a while now. We only recently learned that their cries were not in vain, but now we have specifics!Champions commonly requested a new, intermediary stance -- a compromise between the DPS-crazy but defenseless Fervour stance and uninspiring default one -- and now they're going to get it. The new stance will include the combo point bonuses of Fervour but not the straight-up damage bonus, and will merely penalize Parry and Evade rather than disabling them entirely.Graalx2 lists some other changes in the post as well -- upgrades to existing legendary skills, the conditional ability to use Sudden Defense while in Fervour stance, and more. This month, eight of the biggest contenders will go toe to toe in a winner-take-all bloodbath of pain and glory.The DS, by virtue of winning the last nineteen straight tournaments, has been officially eliminated from the competition. Vegas is giving 3:2 odds on the Wii, but inconsistent supply performance puts them on shaky ground. The PSP, which charged back late in the season to earn the number 1 seed, is playing its best right now, but the in-state rival PS3 is still a force to be reckoned with. The Xbox 360 has also shown marked improvement, with wonderful individual performances by Blue Dragon and Trusty Bell.We're totally picking the Gamecube, though. It's the cinderella story of the season! (Seeds were determined using this week's numbers. Pioneer Elite Pro-FHD1 1080p plasma wins Product of the Year
We guess they don't call it "Elite" for nuthin', as Pioneer's Elite Pro-FHD1 has been crowned the "Product of the Year" according to Sound and Vision Magazine and Ultimate AV. The firm's 50-inch, 1080p plasma was deemed a "technological milestone, complete with images that burst off the display for a near 3D effect," which are pretty strong words considering the smorgasbord of fantastic PDPs alone that came out last year. Of course, Mr. Mossberg would probably still argue that his Pioneer Elite PRO-1140HD was the better choice, but hey, he also tried to convince us that 1080p wasn't an important factor when scouting our your next set. Nevertheless, our hats are off to the folks at Pioneer, and while we're sure this beauty deserved its tiara, the $7,999 pricetag will still keep it out of all but the most affluent homes -- and Pioneer, don't count on next year's award coming easy, as you've already got some seriously stiff competition just a fortnight into the new year.
It's (technically) Virtual Console Monday!
And you know what that means ... new games! Unfortunately, it looks like Nintendo has one hell of a hangover (we can't blame them, we were up till 6 AM ourselves), and they only managed to spit out two rather inauspicious titles: Baseball and Urban Champion, both for the NES. After five hundred points each, we maintain that both playing baseball and punching someone in the face are both far more enjoyable in real life in Wii Sports.And by the way, fellow fanboys, Happy New Year! Did your megaton party involve raucous Wii-playing? As you know, there was a more important countdown in Times Square around a month and a half ago, so if you played right through midnight, wish yourself a happy belated 2007 and check the ball-drop on your TiVo. Just kidding. We know you've already erased that to make room for the next episode of Heroes.
