Think back to E3 2010. We know it's hard; two years is an eternity when it comes to gaming news. Do you remember a title called Swordsman Online, though? We do, and Perfect World has finally released some additional info on the game courtesy of today's screenshot dump. MMO Culture has the details, some of which include the fact that the free-to-play title will feature heavily at ChinaJoy 2012 in a couple of weeks. Swordsman is set in an ancient China infused with fantasy elements. It's also based on the popular novels of Louis Cha.

The ArcheAge news floodgates have opened this morning, thanks largely to XL Games' showing at the ChinaJoy Digital Entertainment Expo in Shanghai. First up is an iOS mobile application reveal, and the program will allow players to view character details and message their ArcheAge pals (with more functionality on the way according to an article at MMO Culture). The fan site also has an interesting look at XL founder Jake Song's ChinaJoy speech which outlines the differences between first-, second-, and third-generation MMORPGs. Song charts the evolution of MMO gameplay from the "unorganized freedom" of early titles to the passive playground style popularized by World of Warcraft, and says that third-gen titles like ArcheAge will provide the best of both worlds by re-introducting player creativity and removing restrictions while maintaining a high degree of polish. Finally, XL has created a new trailer for ChinaJoy, and the clip features the usual stunning scenery as well as a few new wrinkles (hang-gliding and castle construction!). Check it out after the break.

First the Chinese got that great Coke commercial, and now Alice from Wonderland points us to this cool thingamajig at the digital entertainment show ChinaJoy. It's a World of Warcraft and Coke branded Whack-a-Mole machine, but, as Alice says, we can't really see what's being hit. Moles? Paladins? Is it the game the priest plays trying to heal five main tanks in a raid? We're guessing it's nothing so complicated. Even though we can't quite read the Chinese text on top of the machine, it probably translates roughly as "When Server Goes Down, Hit It With a Mallet." So that's what they're doing with these rolling restarts!

  • China lines up for Sony's console

China's biggest gaming convention, China Joy (held in Shanghai), apparently garnered droves of people to sit around and stare at the PS3. We say sit and stare because the PS3 reverted to video form only -- nothing could be touched (another indicator that what we saw at E3 was a very basic build and the Tokyo Game Show will rock our world?). Most of the footage was actually of the PS3 at E3, but there may have been some new stuff thanks to PS3 Theater. As IGN pointed out, the silly thing is that unless Sony can work around the Chinese government and customs, the PS3 may never be released there at all. Peking has a law that limits, if not eliminates, the sale of video games and overseas consoles (maybe some games put down Communism... definately not those war-based FPS's... since there are only about five of those released. Per day.). SCE Asia is trying to work around the problem as it would clearly be a good source of sales, what with the interest it got at China Joy. Go for it, Sony! Take down those barriers.
