Originally released for DOS systems in the ancient caveman days of 1994, business management sim Transport Tycoon is now available on iOS and Android devices for $6.99, via the App Store/Google Play. The game will open up shop in Amazon's app marketplace "soon," according to the press release. This rebuild of the original was overseen by creator Chris Sawyer, whose development pedigree also includes the RollerCoaster Tycoon series. In Transport Tycoon, players must grow and manage a business that moves both people and products via land, sea and air, over an infrastructure that the player designs themselves. Well, in our case we don't really "design" railways so much as "ensure that all trains crash eventually," but that's what Tycoon games are all about.

The "definitive" version of 1994 sim Transport Tycoon is heading onto iOS and Android this year, says AppyNation. Beyond the involvement of creator Chris Sawyer, also responsible for the Rollercoaster Tycoon series, details are sparse at the mo. Sawyer filed a lawsuit against Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 publisher Atari in 2005 over unpaid royalties, reaching an out-of-court settlement in 2008. In May of this year, Atari Inc. filed for court approval to auction assets this month, including the Rollercoaster Tycoon rights. Since then, a number of transactions have seen Atari properties switch hands, including Nordic Games buying Desperados and Silver, and Outlast's purchase by Appeal.
