  • ChuChu Rocket scurries to Android

ChuChu Rocket, one of the most frantic puzzle games around (and a genuine classic), is now available for Android. The game has players guiding their adorable mice (Chuchus), leading them away from evil cats (Kapukapus) and into handy escape rockets. Go ahead and read that last sentence again, we promise it's accurate. You can grab the game now from Android Market for $0.99. Unfortunately, if you're looking for some games for your fancy new Kindle Fire, the game doesn't appear to be on Amazon's Android Appstore. Of course, it's still available for iOS (at $2.99), if that's your thing.

  • Sega's Halloween App sale is chilling

Sega's Halloween sale might be the scariest yet. Starting tomorrow, the publisher is discounting some of its iOS games, including a couple that we'd literally be afraid to try on a touchscreen interface -- like Gunstar Heroes. You'll also be able to get a game for 99 cents that is abstracted enough from its source to be comparable to a ghost story or urban legend. Have you heard of the iPhone version of the Genesis version of Virtua Fighter 2? Legend has it you can see it if you search the App Store at the stroke of midnight, or any other time. It was once an arcade game, but then a mad scientist made a 2D Genesis game out of it. And then, years later, an even madder scientist ported it to iOS. Other listed deals include Brick People and Chu Chu Rocket! for iPad, for $1 each. Those aren't really that scary.

During the holidays, we often end up at a relative's house, wiling away hours without a gaming console anywhere in sight. It's times like these that we turn to our trusty iPhone, where Sega's six best-selling games are currently on sale until December 1. Head past the break for all the details.

  • TUAW's Daily App: ChuChu Rocket!

Sega's classic ChuChu Rocket! puzzle title is on the App Store for both iPhone and iPad right now. I've been waiting for this one for a while. I loved the old Dreamcast version, and the remake for the iPhone not only recreates the mouse-redirecting gameplay (you place arrows on a board to guide mice around cats and into their mouseholes), but it adds a few iOS-specific features as well. There are 145 puzzles to play through, and as a special treat, Sega has added a one to four player multiplayer capability via Apple's Game Center; there are achievements to score as well. The iPhone version is US$4.99, which is less than you'd pay if you found the used Dreamcast version in a store somewhere. The iPad version is $6.99, but it includes a multiplayer mode where up to four players can play on one screen -- it sounds pretty crazy. This one is a classic puzzler that you should definitely check out even if you never played the old game. We're lucky to have it up and running on iOS.

  • Chu Chu Rocket races to iPad and iPhone on October 28

Considering how wildly addictive Chu Chu Rocket is, you'd think the franchise would have seen a port on every gaming device by now. While Sega has yet to announce an XBLA or PSN version, they did showcase the iPad version of the game at a recent event. Launching on October 28 is a brand new Chu Chu Rocket, designed for iPad and iPhone. Unfortunately, it's not a universal app, but the iPad version offers an extra feature: four player same-screen multiplayer. You'll have to get close to your friends in order to play, as you huddle around the four corners of the iPad. For those unfamiliar with the game, Chu Chu Rocket is a real-time puzzle game, in which you must place arrows to direct mice away from ravenous cats and into the safety of their escape pods. The franchise makes a whole lot of sense on a touch screen device, letting you simply hold and swipe your finger to add the mouse-moving arrows. While the game is ideal for iOS, it's a bit disappointing to see how dated the UI elements look. It also appears the menus haven't been properly optimized for use on the touch screen. Another disappointment: Local multiplayer on multiple devices runs sluggishly, with a full second of lag after you touch the screen. Still, it's more Chu Chu Rocket in a form factor that works well for the franchise. With its same-screen multiplayer, it seems the iPad version is the one to get.%Gallery-105003%

  • Sega bringing Chu Chu Rocket, others to iPhone soon

Sega America hosted an iPhone gaming event earlier this week, and the lineup of titles they've got coming to the App Store this fall is a gamer's dream: Chu Chu Rocket (my favorite Dreamcast game!) is coming to iOS, along with classic side scrollers Gunstar Heroes and Altered Beast, Sonic the Hedgehog Episode 1 (the brand new 2D version of Sonic), and a free-to-play strategy/RPG MMO called Kingdom Conquest. TouchArcade was there at the event, and they say that Chu Chu Rocket is all you hope it will be, the new Sonic looks excellent, and Kingdom Conquest sounds like an intriguing mix of genres. Card battling, empire building, and RPG questing all built into one Sega-published free-to-play title? Chu Chu and Sonic already have their pedigrees, but it doesn't sound like you can go wrong with that last one. What a lineup from Sega for this year -- I'm actually more excited about their iPhone releases than I am about anything they're bringing out on consoles or any other platform. Unfortunately, there's no mention of Game Center in any of these previews, but all of the games seem to have multiplayer of some sort, from 1-4 players over both Bluetooth and wifi. So it's probably a pretty good presumption that they'll be Game Center-enabled in some way. So lots to look forward to in the next few months. Should be fun.

  • Rumor: ChuChu Rocket! to blast the XBLA

Here's an Xbox Live Arcade rumor for you. Lately, our friends over at SEGA have been busy re-registering a few of their older game trademarks, most recently a trademark for the Dreamcast's addictively fun ChuChu Rocket! A game trademark that has yet to expire. So, why the need for a new trademark? Well, Siliconera speculates that SEGA could be prepping ChuChu Rocket! (and other franchises) for release to the Xbox Live Arcade. Admittedly, the theory is a bit of a stretch, but isn't total crazy talk. SEGA prepping for an XBLA release of ChuChu Rocket! by re-registering the trademark kind of makes sense ... right?[Via Wii Fanboy]
