  • Deal of the Day: 4GB Memory Stick for $20 [Update]

This is the cheapest 4GB Memory Stick we've ever seen. The SanDisk 4GB Stick is an unadvertised special that's only available at brick and mortar Circuit City stores (no online shopping, sorry!). Item #SDK SDMSG4096A50 is what you'll be looking for. MXPowar from CAG gives some shopping advice for this rather lucrative deal: "In case, you are afraid of this being out of stock when you get there, I just tried this and it works, Buy it here, then choose in-store pickup and your credit card will be refunded about ~$41. A CC representative just called me about this so it is confirmed."Good luck, shoppers.Update: Unfortunately, it looks like the deal is dead. Guess it was a glitch that was corrected -- maybe we publicized this deal too much?

  • Circuit City giving away 21 Wiis

Sure, the chances of ever winning anything in a giveaway are slimmer than Kate Moss, but it never hurts to try. With that said, Circuit City (of the dot com variety) will be giving away one Wii per day from 12/2 (today) to 12/22. All you need to do to enter is put in your email, so at least the effort isn't too taxing for such a futile endeavor. Of course, you have to be a U.S. citizen (or in a U.S. territory or Puerto Rico) to take part in the sweepstakes (damn the law). Anyway, good luck to all who enter, we're sure you're going to need it.

  • New Zunes already hitting store shelves

You can't keep a good retailer down, especially the kind that gadget nerds like us so adore: those that breaking sales embargoes and put hotly anticipated product (like these new Zunes, for example) on store shelves early. Behold, new Zunes -- which aren't supposed to be on sale until next week -- popping up on store shelves at Circuit City and Target. Granted, we don't know how many (if any) sold, since it sounds like they may have actually gotten pulled before customers made a dash for the registers, but who knows, perhaps you might strike Zune gold by trawling the shelves at your local mega-retailer this very weekend. You know who to tip off if you bring home the booty, right? (Note: read link only hits up the Target Zunes, not CC's Zune batch, which is separate.)[Thanks, Ryan and Scott]

  • 90,000 HD DVD players sold in one weekend

    by

We were wondering how well HD DVD was doing with those new price cuts, and now here's Video Business with the answer: according to sources at retailers, Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Circuit City -- among others -- were able to move 90,000 stand-alone HD DVD players this weekend. Most of them were last year's entry level HD-A2, which sold for the low, low price of $99 -- but not all. This dramatically increases the user base for the HD DVD camp, but that's not saying much since the format only sold about this many stand-alone players in its first year. In the world of consumer electronics, 90k isn't that impressive, but considering the estimated loss Toshiba took on each unit, we can see why they'd want to limit the supply. The problem for the HD DVD camp is that they're really up against the PS3's sales, and even though only 40% of PS3 owners realize that there is a Blu-ray player built in, that's still about 750,000 people in the US. But ultimately, this format war is about selling movies, and we'll be keeping a close eye on the weekly sales numbers to assess the impact of this early holiday sales blitz.[Thanks, Utah!]

  • Sunday ads bring out the crazy CoD4 deals

There's lots of gaming deals this weeks, so let's hop right into it. The big new release this Tuesday is Call of Duty 4 and the top gaming retailers are all offering up the goods. If you purchase CoD4 at Target they'll give you a $5 gift card, Best Buy will give you a free Behind Enemy Lines DVD as part of their exclusive CoD4 Ultimate Box Set and they're also offering a $20 instant savings if you purchase the game with a 360 wireless headset. But we think the CoD4 deal crown goes to Circuit City this week, because they're going crazy nuts giving away a poster and Call of Duty 3 with purchase.Other deals you want? Okay ... let's keep going. Best Buy's other deal is a free $10 gift card with F.E.A.R. Files, but that's about it from them. Over at Circuit City this week you can pick up a $29 Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary, a $39 Gears of War (PC) and a $39 Virtua Fighter 5. That's not all, you can also get a $10 gift card with TimeShift and a $39 wireless Xbox 360 controller too. Oh, and we didn't know this ever existed, but you can Cars, Open Season and Fuzion Frenzy 2 all bundled together on one game disc for $29. That's about it for money savings offers this week, but feel free to share what other deals you discovered in the comments below.

  • Circuit City lists LG's BH200 combo HD DVD / Blu-ray combo at $799

We're not exactly sure what to make of this, but LG's BH200 combo HD DVD / Blu-ray player is currently listed on Circuit City's website for $799, which is about $100 cheaper than anywhere else and $200 cheaper than a certain blue competitor. It might well be a typo, of course (and probably is), but between Big Red's pre-Black Friday price-chopping and our own fervent hopes for format peace, we're going to keep on dreaming until we hear otherwise. Update: Yep, too good to be true -- it's back up to $999 now.[Thanks, Mike L.]

Today, Guitar Hero III hit store shelves, which means you should be looking for the best deals and get your purchase on. And since we're cool cats here at X3F, we figured we'd help you out by looking up the best GHIII offers, though we're leaving the purchasing totally up to you. Over at Best Buy, they are offering a free Sex Pistols faceplate for your guitar with purchase of any GHIII bundle, while Circuit City is offering a free guitar stand with any GHIII purchase (bundle or stand alone game). They are both equally good deals, so you'll have to choose which you prefer and which suits you best. Also, you may want to pick up a $2 GHIII keychain at Best Buy, because they're not only cool, but all proceeds will go to benefit the Boys & Girls Club. W00t to that.Best Buy also has the best free offers on two other new releases this week including a free Homer ball, free Homer poster and a free keycode to unlock the Medal of Homer level when you purchase The Simpsons Game. If TimeShift is more your thing, then pick it up at Best Buy this week, because you'll be treated to a free music CD priced at $14.99 or less. Remember, all these offers are only good through this Saturday, so be sure to take advantage of them while they last. Oh, and don't forget to pickup GHIII ... it's good times.

When they say "competition's good," they obviously meant "competition means cheap HD DVD players": Wal-Mart's $198 Toshiba HD-A2 has been copied by Circuit City, which is now selling the same player for $197.99 online. Add it to your cart, and see for yourself. As one tipster said, with deals like this popping up this early, signs are looking good for one helluva Black Friday.[Thanks to everyone that sent this in!]

  • Circuit City steps up to educate customers about DTV cutover

It'd be too easy to just mark off Best Buy's earlier announcement regarding its decision to no longer sell analog TVs as a simple coincidence, but whatever the case, Circuit City is hitting back to let the whole world know that it cares, too. Aside from confirming that it plans on participating in the NTIA Converter Box Coupon Program, it also announced that it would be "incorporating DTV transition reminders and messages into the closed circuit videos that run on its TVs," include cutover advisory information in its advertising supplements, install store signage to inform customers of the impending change and train employees to be well-versed on the whole matter. Stay sharp, though, we can just hear the PSAs turning into sales pitches now.

  • It's Sunday ad time and there's deals galore

We haven't had a Sunday ad sale blog post for a while seeing that retailers have been less than newsworthy with their video game prices and offers as of late. But don't worry, because this week is a different story. And so, let's get to the deals.Through October 20th at Circuity City, you can pick up a free $10 gift card with the purchase of SEGA Rally Revo and get Tony Hawk's Project 8 for FREE with the purchase of Tony Hawk's Proving Grounds. Not only that, but Target is offering BioShock for $49, Best Buy is offering a free $10 gift card when you purchase both Transformers: The Game and Transformers on DVD, and Toys R Us is having its semi-annual Buy 2 Get 1 Free offer on ALL video games too. And if that wasn't enough, we felt bad about our botched Xbox Live subscription savings post, so we did a little more digging and found out that you can get 12+1 month subscription cards at Newegg for $39, Costco for $39 or Circuit City for $39. Happy savings.[Thanks, Rikin and Jkelly888]

  • Verizon gets official with green enV, exclusive to Circuit City

Yep, it's real! In case orange or the original gray scheme weren't to your liking, the LG enV on Verizon can now be had in a "hot new green color" (their words, not ours) -- but only at your friendly local Circuit City location. It seems this particular version has been designated as a Circuit City exclusive for the time being, fetching $149.99 after a $50 rebate on contract. The spec sheet remains the same, so unless something about this color really speaks to you, we wouldn't worry about it.[Via PhoneMag]Update: Verizon's now revised the price down to $79.99 after rebate. Sounds a lot better than the original price, yeah?

Is this a production model? A concept or tech demo? We don't know just yet but we can tell you that Funai is the Japanese company responsible for Wal-Mart's Duraband. In addition, they manufacturer products for Emerson, Sylvania, Symphonic, Best Buy's Insignia brand and
