I always knew Gnomes were evil, but a Gnomish pirate?! This was too much. As much as I wanted that new horse of a different color mount from Bristlebane Day, I could barely stand the thought of having to go toe-to-toe with the cabbage-scented Captain Gnoggin. In a lopsided battle, I emerged victorious, and as I did my turn-in for the new Bristlebane Day quest, I was reminded that EverQuest II offers an enormous variety of unique house items and appearance clothing. Cosmetic items might not offer any real advantage in progression, but they speak to the depth of content in the game and the quality of life that players enjoy. Being able to create an amazing home or make yourself stand out with a unique look is a real luxury for players. In this week's Tattered Notebook, we'll look back at the evolution of vanity items in game and take a look at a few easy ways that players of all levels can add a little bling to their lives.

It may be known as the City of Hate, but even such hives of scum and villainy as Neriak get their days in the sun. EverQuest II's monthly city festival rotates to Neriak in March for a week of special events and opportunities to net spiffy rewards. By earning special City Tokens, players have a chance to grab special items that are only available when the festival visits that specific town. For Neriak, this means a wide assortment of cool-looking marble decorations, among other goodies. Complete the stamp collection quest for the event and a usable Norrathian Express Box will be placed at your disposal. The Neriak City Festival will only last through March 7th, so if you're looking to spruce up your in-game house with a few spite-filled decorations, get in quick before it's too late!

The stockings might be stretched and frayed from being stuffed with presents, and the Frostfell tree might be shedding all over your Halasian home, but that doesn't mean the celebration is over! While the holidays are winding down, things are hopping in EverQuest II. If you're looking to dodge those post-holiday blues, look no further! I've composed a list of fun things to do in EQII during the month of January, and all are doable no matter what your level. Read below for a look at 11 for '11, and ring in the New Year in EverQuest II.

  • Frolicking in Freeport: EverQuest II's city festival features fun and finery

It may be the evilest city of them all, but that doesn't mean that EverQuest II's Freeport can't cut loose and have a good time now and then. For the duration of this week (November 1st through 7th), the city festival has moved to Freeport, and players are encouraged to head on over and pay their respects to the Overlord. The city festival is a roaming monthly event in EQII that features a different one of the six capitals, wherein players can complete repeatable quests and hand in city writs to collect the cleverly-named city tokens. Said tokens are then taken to a midway and spent on Skeeball -- or, in a more truthful sense, they are exchanged for unique house decorations. Freeport is featuring a special lamppost, display counter and a carved door for collectors. Players are also welcome to snag one of the six winning paintings from last month's Oktoberfest Forum Challenge. Winners of the contest had their screenshots immortalized as an in-game painting. Housing is one of EQII's crown jewels, so this is a great opportunity to deck out your pad!

  • Reminder: The EverQuest II city festival is now in Gorowyn!

Ah, the city festival, how we love your postage collections and new mailboxes when you come to a new city in Norrath. While the event isn't listed on the main page yet, the city festival is in progress and it has moved to the city of Gorowyn in the Timorous Deep. Sure, the city may be aligned with evil (allegedly) but those who bow to the false queen are welcome in its depths as well. In the words of Agent J: "Don't start nothing, won't be nothing." You can find the festival at the lowest level of the city's core, out by the docks and near the city's main entrance to the main level. If you're looking for all of the rewards you can procure for the festival, than look no further than this wonderfully exhaustive list. Remember, some rewards are unique to Gorowyn! If you don't get them this time, you'll have to wait for the city festival to swing back 'round again!
