  • ViewSonic VCP08 keeps Windows XP, clamshell style alive

The xpPhone isn't even out yet and already it has competition. ViewSonic has announced its own take on the idea of a phone with Windows XP as the OS, in the form of the VCP08. With an Intel ULV processor, half a gigabyte of RAM, and 8GB of storage, it has just about enough to let you run XP productively, and once you open up the clamshell casing you'll find a 4.3-inch display and a full QWERTY keyboard to do it with. The outside is adorned with a 2 megapixel camera, plus a 2-inch screen and numeric keypad for your old school phone needs. An asking price of $800 and what we suspect to be pretty atrocious battery life will likely be the biggest hindrances on this device's path to respectability, but all the same, we totally wanna play with one. You should mosey on past the break to find a picture of the retro-looking externals.

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky will be your host today. Good afternoon all. I want to give a shout out to everyone in Fargo, North Dakota who is dealing with the flood that's going on, in particular everyone who is busy sandbagging. It's big, bad, and full of water. But on the plus side there are now ducks outside of my apartment, and I live two and a half miles from the Red River. But ducks are cool. It's made me want to go fire up Duck Hunt. I may be pawning off The Queue this week to Alex, depending on how bad things get in my area. He's anxious to talk about Mountain Dew I hear.Palatel asked..."Any idea on how the leader of a Battleground is determined?"

The patch notes for the 3.1 PTR have recently been updated, and they have quite a few nice updates and a few things that should make things more convenient for cooks everywhere. We were promised cooking would be easier in 3.1, and these patch notes definitely deliver on that promise. Let's check out the changes (compiled courtesy of MMO-Champion), which include even easier campfires and those 2 promised recipes:

  • Predicting a clamity: Patch 3.1

We've had some rather...bumpy... patches as of late from Blizzard. In patch 3.0.2 the servers were down for what was nearly a day before hand, and when the patch finally did arrive not everything was as it should have been. It took a month's time for all the changes to make their way to the live server. When Wrath of the Lich King was launched, there were countless servers inflicted with near game-ending lag and connection problems for people. And that's not to mention the hour long queues many of us faced (and still face to some degree).Patch 3.0.8 brought with it a whole new host of issues, leading Mike Schramm to proclaim The Disaster of Three-Oh-Eight. There are still lingering issues from that. Just ask any Hunter about the cower bug.So while we sit here with bated breath waiting for new information about patch 3.1, there is a little voice going on in the back of my head. "Do you really want this, Adam? Do you really want your email box to be flooded with tips about how buggy the patch is?"But then I think of happier things, like clam stacking, and I smile.I want to take a poll today. Do you think patch 3.1 will be a clamity or a cheering celebration? %Poll-25977%

I was doing a bit of research tonight for upcoming articles about patch 3.0.8, and I came across some more changes to clams. Yes you read that right, clams. The little things you get after killing every damn murloc and sea creature. This topic deserves an article for a few reasons. First, let's take a look at all the changes to clams since 3.0.2: Clams are now stackable in stacks of 20. (Patch 3.0.2) Players can now open clams while riding a vehicle, sitting, mounted, stealthed, and invisible. (Patch 3.0.8) I look at this and think to myself "Some at Blizzard spent time thinking about different conditions that clams needed to be opened up in, wrote out a list, discussed it with someone, and then implemented the changes."And further, someone said "Clams take up too much bag space, let's let them be stacked together."

Prepare to get your shine on VZW customers -- the LG VX8700 is up, pretty, and ready for purchase. As a wink-wink, nudge-nudge in the direction of LG's Shine branding, Verizon calls the new clamshell a "shiny new addition" to their LG lineup. No surprises on the specs: V Cast support, stereo Bluetooth, microSD expansion and 2 megapixel cam. Ink a 2-year deal and she's yours for $179.99 after $50 online discount. Now go get it, the first Shine has arrived Stateside and is exclusive to Verizon.[Thanks, V-Doc and everyone who sent this in]

  • LG's SV260 clamshell hits SK Telecom

Looks like SK Telecom users have yet another option in the crowded clamshell market, as LG's SV260 delivers a dash of brushed aluminum and a simplistic design to an otherwise ho hum offering. The mobile opts for a sleek, metallic outer shell to compliment the black inner section housing an elusive external display, weighs in at 3.74-ounces, and measures 3.72- x 1.87- x 0.69-inches. Internally, you'll find a 1.3-megapixel camera, two-inch LCD screen, MP3 playback capability, 512MB of storage, a text-to-speech system, and the same electronic dictionary functionality as found on the recently-unveiled LC-3200 slider. Though we've every idea that this here mobile will spend most of its time in the Asian markets, we aren't certain what LG plans on charging, but it shouldn't run ya too awfully much when it lands.[Via AkihabaraNews]

  • AT&T launches MOTORAZR V3xx HSDPA clam

We just peeped it with the FCC and on the pricing sheet. Now, just like we expected, out pops the Motorola V3xx on the new AT&T. Sure, it's no MAXX or SYNC but we're not going to complain about having another HSDPA option in the US market. Although, we'd have preferred free over the $80 it'll cost ya after a two-year contract and $50 mail in rebate. Still, not bad for stereo A2DP Bluetooth audio, MicroSD expansion for your media, and a clam that will double up as a high-speed wireless modem.[Thanks, Alexei]

  • LG's VX9900 caught in the wild?

Ok, you know the drill by now. HowardForums has a purported shot (on left) of the thinner, sexier successor to the VX9800 communicator, the LG VX9900 we first trolled from the FCC (pic on the right) back in May. We're still hoping for this QWERTY clam to roll on Verizon sometime this month as reported by our own Boy Genius or sometime between September 29th and October 13th according to the rumor jockeys ridin' the HoFo. Hell, let's just say any day now and leave it at that mkay?[Thanks, Scott and Sunny]
