W00t! Seems Apple really likes me, or at least people in my general area. Tomorrow is the grand opening of the newest Apple store, Boulder, Colorado's Twenty Ninth Street location. Par usual for store openings, the first thousand people through the door get special limited edition t-shirts, and can enter for a chance to win fabulous prizes. I'll try and make it up to Boulder to get in line by 7:30, but if one of you early rising readers is going to be there and wants to keep a place in line for me, I would be forever in your debt. I'll be there with my Flatiron Crossing grand opening shirt and etched-out PowerBook blogging and interviewing store staff and excited line-waiters alike.

  • Colorado's vNet color touchscreen, IP-based music server

While the myriad of choices you have when scouting out an in-home streaming music solution is quite robust, Colorado is aiming to provide a new twist on a device that has become relatively stagnant in the innovation department. The company's vNet lineup includes Vibe media servers, encoders, tuners, and docks, but the focal point here is the 7-inch color touchscreen that controls all the action. The LCD, aside from displaying album art, metadata, and libraries from every connected audio source, houses a 70 watt Class D amplifier to act as a self-contained receiver, should you choose to use it. This "IP-based audio streaming solution" allows you to connect PCs, CD players, DAPs, satellite radio receivers, and essentially anything with an audio output to your home network through Ethernet, while the LCD receiver of sorts locates and manages connected devices. Since it's highly doubtful your special edition iPod or circa 1985 cassette deck has a LAN port, Colorado offers encoder units that accept just about any form of analog / digital audio inputs, and converts the tunes to PCM streams that get piped to your speaker system via the Vibe display. We don't have any clues on pricing or availability, as it seems Colorado is mostly interested in dealers at this point, but we can't wait to give this thing a go with our vintage 8-track player once it drops.[Via CEPro]

  • PS3 wanted in CA, NJ, but not Colorado?

That's the vibe we're getting from this interesting write-up from GameDaily. They polled some gamers in each of those places only to find that California and New Jersey seem to be looking forward to the Sony system, but no love for it in Colorado? In fact, here's one quote that has a pretty good point: "With a price like $600, people might just come back to the arcade for affordable gaming. Well, either that or get a PS2." To those of you too poor not attracted to the PS3, think you may pick up your grassroots in the arcade for some gaming action? Seems like a viable alternative if you already own an Xbox 360 and don't plan on picking up Sony's console. Of course other gamers just spoke their mind like "They're out of their f***ing heads."Yeah, we've heard that one before too. Possibly the most valuable quote to take away from the whole affair pretty much sums it all up perfectly: "It's just the hardcore people that have a problem with it. Core gamers are little bitches. They complain about everything because they're used to a certain standard of living, and whenever anyone dares to change it they complain. You don't see people stressing out about the prices of new cars, computers, or appliances nearly as much. The cost of living is going up. If you don't want a PS3, then don't buy one."[Thanks boots]

I think it's safe to declare today as "Apple Store News Day." First Toronto's on the map, then Zürich and now a store I've been waiting for: Flatiron Crossing Mall in Broomfield, CO. I just received the email from Apple about the grand opening, the prizes, the glitz and glamor... The store's grand opening is happening this weekend, May 6th at 10:00 am. T-shirts will be given to the first 1000 (geeks) through the door, and that "Digital Lifestyle Collection" sweepstakes is going on as well. The prizes are the same as the ones in the Toronto store that Dave mentioned: an iMac, an iPod nano, a Canon digital camera, a Sony Handycam CCD-TRV138, and an HP inkjet printer.I'm going to try and make the opening myself, but I'll need to recruit a fellow Mac geek with a car. If you make it to the opening, send us a link with some pics or a report. Enjoy!

It looks like an Apple Store may be headed to Flatiron Crossing in Broomfield, Colorado. According to Colorado publication The Daily Camera, a spokesperson for the mall at Flatiron Crossing stated [subscription required] that Apple has indeed signed a lease for a 3,231 square-foot retail space. The lease also includes an option for Apple to open a location at the still unopened Macerich’s Twenty Ninth Street mall. A quick look on Apple's job listing webpage did not yield any information, however. This news comes at the same time as rumors for a new Apple Store in the SmithHaven Mall on Long Island in Lake Grove, NY. Thanks TUAW reader [Lorgio].(Pictured is Colorado's Aspen Grove store).[Via ifoAppleStore]

  • High Def MTV location and VJ announced

I have to give them credit. If I was MTV and I was starting a new high-def music channel, I'd be looking for some eye-candy for the camera. That's why you'll never see me in high-def. No, MTV never called me; instead, they went with Olympic Skier, Jeremy Bloom. Probably a smart move. When MTV announced their new HDTV music channel, MHD, they really didn't have much info at the time. Now the pieces seem to be coming together with the new VJ announcement and a studio location as well. The new show will broadcast in high-def from a glass-walled studio on Vail Mountain in Colorado. Do you think maybe if I had a ski resort in my back yard, they might have called me? Nah, me neither...
