Micro Center offers convoluted process for two free games
If you're in the market for a new DS Lite and happen to have one of Micro Center's 21 US locations nearby, this might be the deal for you! Starting yesterday and lasting until this Christmas, the computer retailer will hand out two coupons, each one redeemable for a free DS game, used or new, to anyone who picks up a Nintendo DS Lite in-store.Cashing in those coupons is where this bargain starts to get complicated, however. One of them can only be exchanged during the month of December, whereas the other is only valid during January. Also, the game is only free if its value is $29.99 or less. Any more than that, and the coupons will just subtract $29.99 from its list price. This sounds way more elaborate than it needs to be, but knowing the ridiculous lengths that gamers often go to for free stuff, we're sure that some of you will still take advantage of the sale.[Via CAG]
GameStop selling used DS Lites at a decent price
GameStop usually sells its used DS Lites for $119.99, only ten dollars less than how much a new system goes for -- might as well buy a new one at that price, right? But for the next week, the video game retailer will be offering the preowned handhelds for only $99.99, provided that you present the above coupon. That sounds a lot more reasonable!Just cross your fingers and hope that your console's previous owner treated it a lot better than these guys did with theirs.
Save $5 on overpriced used games at EB/GS
We've always thought that GameStop and EB Games's used titles were, at the very least, $5 too expensive, especially when you consider the pittance they reward you with for trading in your games, old or new. The thrifty among you will find some solace in this coupon that both companies sent out last night, enticing you to "Save $5 when you buy any used DS game priced $14.99 or higher."You'll have a better selection picking out your game from the stores' shelves, but the coupon code, "EBC3002763," should also work with online purchases. If you head to their "Used Games" pages now, you might be able to scavenge preplayed titles like Elite Beat Agents and Resident Evil: Deadly Silence before the wolves descend upon them and tear their availability from your grip. MailTags and iGTD unite features in the name of productivity and discounts
A recent update to iGTD brought some significant enhancements, one of which is very, very rich integration with Scott Morrison's MailTags 2.0. With v1.4.3, iGTD can process most of the MailTags 2 information attached to an Apple Mail message. For example: keywords in MailTags prefixed with @ will get translated into contexts, while your other tags will simply become regular tags in iGTD. Same with projects, deadlines, priorities and even notes added to Apple Mail messages with MailTags: they'll all effortlessly transfer over into iGTD when importing messages with an F-key. If this is all getting your productivity and GTD gears turning but you haven't purchased MailTags yet, Scott Morrison and Bartlomiej Bargiel (iGTD's developer) have just offered a partner promotion that should do the trick: for a limited time, when users donate to iGTD, they can contact the author and receive a $5 coupon off the $29.95 retail price of MailTags 2.0. I say 'limited time' because, as of this writing, they have 35 coupons left, though Scott said he's definitely willing to whip up more coupons depending on how much interest spawns from this promotion (I know, I know: I warned them about the TUAW effect, so we'll see). As an extremely happy and paid user of MailTags and a budding GTD user for whom iGTD finally made sense, this sounds like a great deal for anyone looking to get more productive with their email. HP's Retail Store Assistant: a wallet's worst enemy
Fellas, if you thought Ralph Lauren's literal window shopping contraption was your wallet's arch-rival, we've got some unfortunate news, and for the ladies (or guys) who just love to spend it up, HP's about to become your very best friend. The clever gurus at HP Labs have developed a marketer's dream tool that enables customers to enter a retail store, swipe a card, and instantly receive a printout (shown after the jump) that includes "a personalized shopping list, relevant coupons, notice of associated store discounts or sales, and even a map to where the items can be found in the store." The inaccurately named Retail Store Assistant (we were thinking more along the lines of Wallet Depleter) is currently in the "experimental" stage, and would include an in-store kiosk which customers could access via a loyalty card or by inputting their phone number. Of course, this isn't the first stab we've seen at retailers using previous history to target consumers, but the team behind this apparatus insists that it will be much more effective than the typical junk mail that barely graces our eyes before hitting the trash. Best Worst of all, the system will reportedly be available even on the web, meaning that those with an urge to shop can log on during the waning hours of the workday and plan out their shopping spree for maximum efficiency. Oh, the humanity.

Eyonix has posted another mention of Blizzard's partnership with Renaissance Entertainment Productions on the forums. It seems that World of Warcraft and the almighty Renaissance Pleasure Faire are tied together now, at least in the spirit of common commerce. I grew up going to the Southern faire as those on this coast call it, and although it's been years since I've been able to attend, I cherish my memories of those times as the start of my geekhood. I can honestly credit my creative writing degree to the 30 second Hamlet. Now these experiences can be yours, and for a pretty hefty discount. Huzzah for the coupons! World of Warcraft players will get 20% off tickets. This wouldn't be that big of a deal if it were only in Southern California, but Renaissance Entertainment Productions hosts several faires around the country including Wisconsin and New York, and WoW players will be able to use the coupons at each of them. These are also the best faires in the country, folks, so if you get the chance you shouldn't pass up a really good time. Imagine, whole 10-man raids on the steak-on-a-stake vendor! Orcs and night elves everywhere! The opportunities for cosplay are endless. It's enough to make me want to break out my bodice and recorder and head on south. Developers unleash exclusive offers for MacHeist participants
One of the appeals of MacHeist that a few participating developers cited for their participation is residual sales. Things like upgrade licenses, extra plugins and add-ons can all be big boosts to a 3rd party developer's revenue, and some of MacHeist's participating devs have certainly hit the ground running. Yesterday I received my confirmation emails and licenses from RealMac Software (RapidWeaver) and Dave Watanabe (NewsFire), both with exclusive offers for MacHeist customers. First, RealMac Software is offering a 10% discount on theme packs, and Dave is offering a 'lifetime upgrade' add-on for NewsFire for a mere $11. We've also known from early on that John Casasanta has had a version 4.0 upgrade just around the corner for iClip, and MacroMates had an offer on the table since day 1 of at least 60% off an upgrade license to an upcoming version 2 release of TextMate.It will be interesting to see how all this plays out for these 3rd party developers in the coming months. I know I'm already falling in love with TextMate, and even though I use WordPress, ecto and Dreamweaver for most of my website needs, RapidWeaver is tempting me with its sexy ease of use and purty themes. The 3rd party devs, it seems, have already made a revenue statistic out of me.
Apple offers $20 iLife '06 discount to .Mac customers
In their true spirit of integration, Apple has finally decided to offer .Mac customers a small kickback on the purchase of iLife '06 (just in time for that iLife '07 sting to really get ya in January). In Apple Stores or online, the .Mac blog has announced a $20 discount (it's a mail-in rebate if you purchase from anywhere else) on the purchase of either a single or family pack of iLife '06, bringing their respective prices down to $59 and $79. Not a bad deal considering these two services are joined at the hips. You can also walk - no need to run - as they've left the discount/rebate open for (most of) the holiday shopping season - it ends December 13th.

Digital TV converter coupons: Who gets them and how much?
There's been a lot of concern over the upcoming digital broadcast conversion and how it will affect those who currently get TV via over-the-air broadcast and haven't upgraded to sets with digital tuners. Under the proposal recently submitted by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, only homes that do not have cable or satellite TV currently would be eligible for coupons to reduce the price of two boxes by $40 each. That might not seem fair to people who have say, one cable TV and that one TV in the basement/attic that you could always use to watch the game on Sunday if need be. Luckily if you disagree with the proposal -- which you can read in its entirety here -- they are inviting public comment.Check out the FAQ for info on how to make your voice heard, much like us they will publish your comments on the website for all to see. Sort of makes you wonder why the government doesn't just start up a blog for this kind of thing.

Aperture 1.1 released with improvements, price drop, $200 coupon for early adopters
