Sony Ericsson's Cyber-shot C903 spotted in all three colors
Sony Ericsson's no longer playing hide-and-seek with its Cyber-shot C903, but we're still pretty stoked to see a few in the wild shots prior to Mobile World Congress. Pictured above (and in the read link) are all three flavors of SE's forthcoming slider, though it should be noted that these are likely pre-production units. Still, aside from a few minor changes on the real deal (the omission of a front camera, for instance), everything else is there. Is that mouth of yours watering yet?
Sony's GPS-CS3KA GPS image tracker coming in March
Sony last upgraded its CS1 GPS image tracker around this time last year, and as PMA 2009 draws ever closer, we're seeing the outfit quietly introduce that unit's proper successor. The GPS-CS3KA takes on a slightly more modern design and promises compatibility with nearly every Cyber-shot digital still camera and Handycam camcorder out there. Essentially, the utility here is the same as before -- keep it on your person while shooting, then let the Picture Motion Browser software sync up data with the time stamps on your photos. Once done, you'll get a nifty Google Map showing where you photographed each image. This unit also sports dual MS / SD card slots and can run for almost 15 hours on a single AA cell. Sony Ericsson's W395 Walkman and C903 Cybershot bring more of the same
In the run-up to Mobile World Congress we've been treated to a windfall of hot new phones and technologies. Then there's Sony Ericsson's W395 Walkman and C903 Cyber-shot. The W395 is a new Walkman slider with built-in stereo speakers meant for the "youth" market, a market that seemingly hates 3G or storage since the quad-band GSM/EDGE device ships with a measly 1GB memory card. It will, however, be affordable and feature a 2 megapixel camera when it ships in Q1. The C903 Cyber-shot slider already spotted around here a few times brings a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with sliding lens cover as we've seen -- give the cover a slide and this cameraphone's ready for duty. The camera features face detection and a Smile Shutter mode that automatically snaps the shutter when a happy face is detected. It also packs a 2.4-inch display, Memory Stick Micro (M2) expansion slot and, get this... it'll even make phone calls. This worldphone rides quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE for 10 hours of talk or 400 hours of standby with UMTS/HSPA 900/2100 (or 850/1900/2100 in the C903a configuration) frequencies bringing the 3G sometime in Q2. Hitachi H001 with 3D display leads up KDDI au's Spring 2009 lineup
So KDDI's latest lineup of new phones features the usual array of 8.1 megapixel cameras, wide VGA displays, one-seg TV tuners, and teleporters, but one particular handset stood out: Hitachi's Wooo H001. The dual-hinge flip's claim to fame -- well, besides the bizarre color scheme -- has to be the stereoscopic IPS display that presumably uses the same parallax barrier method shown off by the carrier late last year. The phone will happily serve up 3D-ified versions of various UI elements and mobile TV content, and when you start to get woozy (or Wooozy, as it were), just flip a switch and you're back to the reassuring flatness you're used to. It'll launch in three colors in April, and naturally, you'll have to be in Japan to get it.[Via Akihabara News]
Sony Ericsson's C903 Frances gives us a rear view, xenon flash?
We got eyes-on with the C903's other side a couple days ago, so it was only fitting that we throw this up to complete the picture. We have to admit, the blurriness threw us briefly because if you squint hard enough, that 5.0 on the backside can sorta come off like an 8. Of course, that's not the case, but the joy here -- if you take joy in this kind of thing, which we know you do -- is what may be a xenon flash lurking in the rear of the C903 Frances' housing. That's it for new-ness, but maybe more news will trickle before the handset's unveiling.[Via SEMC Blog]
Sony Ericsson W508 Walkman hands-on
Also on-hand -- and in -- tonight was Sony Ericsson's newest Walkman set, the W508. This clamshell, which is a bit of a departure for Walkman devices, features quad-band GSM and single-band HSDPA, and a W508a variant that has quad-band GSM and triple-band HSDPA for our shores. Other notables include a 3.2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, video calling, and Exchange Activesync for some enterprise mail access. Sony Ericsson's C510 Cyber-shot hands-on
Sony Ericsson, while dwarfed by big brother Sony's launches at the show this year, did at least show a couple sets today. The Cyber-shot C510 will be released in a triple-band GSM single band HSDPA version for Europe, a quad-band GSM triple-band HSDPA, and a triple-band GSM version for China. Feature list includes a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, Smile Shutter technology that detects a smile a immediately grabs the shot, Snapfish, and YouTube for quick video uploads. Engadget Mobile were kind enough to give it a quick once over, hit the read link for the info.
Sony trots out 12 megapixel Cyber-shot DSC-W220
Sony's busting out a plethora of wares today in Vegas, and included among them is a new entry-level W-Series Cyber-shot. The DSC-W220 features both Intelligent Scene Recognition and Dynamic Range Optimizer, both of which were previously reserved for higher-end offerings. Specs wise, it's touting a 2.7-inch LCD monitor, Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 4X optical zoom lens, HD output, Optical SteadyShot stabilization, 15MB of internal memory and a Memory Stick card slot. It'll hit this April in silver, black, pink and blue for about $190.%Gallery-40925%
Sony Ericsson C905 gets reviewed -- all 8.1 megapixels of it
When you're reviewing a phone dominated by an unusually weighty image sensor that dominates the spec sheet, you can bet that cam is going to get an extra-thorough rundown. MobileBurn put Sony Ericsson's beastly C905 slider through its paces, and as you might expect, it produced some pretty awesome pictures -- as cellphones go, at least -- with a full-featured camera interface that seems to throw some validity behind the handset's Cyber-shot branding. There was some weirdness with vivid colors that seemed to be a fault of the review unit, and the geotagging functionality didn't really work, but if you just want to produce decent images that you can blow up and plaster to a dorm wall, this sucker should do the trick. A xenon flash, HSDPA, and serviceable signal and sound quality all conspire to make it a workable choice dubbed "Highly Recomended" by the site. Alright, yeah, count us in.
Sony Ericsson's Filippa, Frances, and C510 Kate spotted in the same room?
Mankind has never known a greater mystery than that of the true identity of "Kate." We knew it was a camera phone, manufactured by Sony Ericsson, and that it was part of the Cyber-shot line -- but beyond that all we had was speculation and innuendo. And here's some more! According to SEMC Blog, Kate -- officially known as the C510 -- should be available in roughly "two months." The camera sports a 2.2-inch QVGA display, 3.2-megapixel camera and 120MB on board storage. Also detailed were Filippa, a new Cybershot candybar, and Frances, its slider counterpart. Both of these phones feature 5-megapixel cameras with autofocus. There's no word yet on a release date, but knowing SE the information will trickle out... eventually. In the meantime, you'll have to make due with the specs we've included for you after the break.
Sony Ericsson's new ad shows off the C905's camera and absolutely nothing else
An ad campaign shot entirely on a mobile phone camera? Well, Sony Ericsson -- claiming to be the first -- has done it, using the C905, ostensibly to prove what an awesome (8.1-megapixel) camera it boasts. The results can be found exclusively in December's issue of FHM, and are what Sony Ericsson Marketing Director David Hilton calls an "amazing opportunity" to "show off the capabilities" of the Cyber-shot. So let's just get this straight: your ad uses a professional model, a fashion photographer, professional lighting, and makeup, not to mention all that retouching, and we're supposed to be impressed with the camera? Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot candybar really the Filippa?
Kudos, SE -- you've had our minds fixed on this elusive Cyber-shot candybar of yours for a solid half-month. We've now learned that the handset formerly known as Kate may actually be revealed as the Filippa, but we wouldn't be shocked to hear it referred to as the Kyliowooka next week. According to new images over at SEMC Blog, this here handset will indeed boast a 5-megapixel AF camera, video out, a 2.2-inch QVGA display, M2 card slot, 140MB of built-in memory and the ability to capture QVGA video. You'll also find a Xenon flash, face detection / smile shutter, HSUPA, an active lens cover and YouTube support. Now, if only we knew how legitimate all of this was...
Sony Ericsson's 8.1MP C905 Cyber-shot cellphone gets unboxed on video
Oh sure, you've seen the 8.1-megapixel C905 Cyber-shot in the wild and in our very own hands, but have you seen it unboxed entirely on video? No? Well, today's your lucky day. Sony Ericsson's shutterbug-of-a-cellphone is a touch on the thick side and doesn't come with too many extras (you know, like a detachable zoom lens), but as SE always manages to do, it has delivered a pretty enviable beast all things considered. Sony Ericsson's new Cyber-shot gets clearer, isn't Kate
Sony Ericsson's purported codenames are a source of endless amusement, because they 1) are virtually always feminine names, and 2) have zero bearing on the final product name. We'd heard that Sony Ericsson was prepping a new Cyber-shot candybar by the name of Kate, and now we're hearing that it's not Kate after all -- but really, it doesn't matter one way or another since it'll be a letter with three numbers after it by the time it launches. The important thing is that we're now seeing much better shots of the alleged 5-megapixel baddie with xenon flash, offering what'll probably be a modernized alternative to the K850. Keepin' it real fake, part CXLII: Sony Ericsson's T700 gets a twin (sans Ericsson)
We've always wondered when we'd see a KIRF that was actually more desirable than the original, and while this ripped T700 isn't quite as succulent at SE's own T700, it's closer than most... on the outside. This touchscreen-based cellphone (which is obviously masquerading as a camera) supposedly sports a Carl Zeiss lens, a 5x optical zoom (seriously?), 8-megapixel sensor, a microSD slot and easily one of the nastiest user interfaces we've ever had the displeasure of laying eyes on. Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-G3 with WiFi diddled by the FCC
The FCC didn't give us much to go on here besides these wireframe images and a few radiation reports. From that we can tell you that Sony's about to release its new DSC-G3 Cyber-shot boasting 802.11b/g WiFi. As a followup to the WiFi-packing DSC-G1 announced more than a year ago, we're expecting the 3.5-inch LCD (now probably touchscreen like the T700) to carryover with storage twisted above 2GB and a sensor bump into the 10.1 megapixel range like Sony's new T500. Just a guess though, we hope to hear more at the Photokina show later this month.
Sony Cyber-shot T500 hands-on
We got a look at Sony's new HD-shootin', 10.1 megapixel Cyber-shot T500 today, and it seems to do what it says on the box. There was no Memory Stick in the display version, so we couldn't test out any HD recording, but the touchscreen interface did seem responsive, and mode switching from stills to video is a snap. Perhaps it was the lighting we were under, but the large LCD did seem to flicker a bit, and wasn't stunningly bright either, but otherwise we're big fans of the build quality of the device. Fashioncam this is not -- there's some heft, bulk and sharp edges here that will keep it away from your skinny jeans -- but the T500 is a fine entry from Sony, and at $399 it's pretty well priced for what it can do.%Gallery-30743%
Sony's Cyber-shot T500 10 megapixel compact shoots HD videos
It's no D90, but Sony has a new compact stillcam for your snapping pleasure, the Cyber-shot T500, and it's touting an HD movie mode just like any good bandwagon hopper should. The 10.1 megapixel camera offers up a 5x optical zoom, 3.5-inch LCD and Optical SteadyShot, but most of the attention is likely to be lavished on the 1280 x 720 30 fps h.264 movie mode. You can grab 720p stills while you shoot, and you can expect to store about an hour of video on your 4GB Memory Stick... you do have a 4GB Memory Stick, right? The T500 hits this October, no word just yet on price. Oh, and she comes in colors.
Sony introduces Cyber-shot DSC-T700 and DSC-T77 digicams
Don't look now, but your point-and-shoot is about to get a whole lot smarter if it's rockin' a DSC-T700 or DSC-T77 label. Starting with the latter (which is Sony's thinnest model at less than 5/8 of an inch), you'll find a 10-megapixel sensor, ISO up to 3,200, eleven scene modes, in-camera image management, face detection and a 3-inch touchscreen to boot. Moving on, the brainy DSC-T700 does everything the T77 does but throws in 4GB of internal storage and a 3.5-inch LCD -- you know, so you can have a "photo album in your pocket." Both units sport a Carl Zeiss lens, 4x optical zoom, image stabilization and even an anti-blink function that snaps two successive shots if it notices anyone dozing during the capture. Also of note, the T700 packs a Picture Motion Browser application that "lets you downsize images from full-resolution to VGA and export them back to the camera's internal photo album." A bit gimmicky, sure, but a welcome addition nonetheless. Look for the T77 to land in brown, green, pink, black and silver in late September for about $300, while the T700 hits around the same time in red, champagne gold, pink, dark gray and silver for a Benjamin more.Update: Gallery added. Sony Ericsson sees net profits fall 97%, looks to cut 2,000 jobs
Sony Ericsson warned the world just over a fortnight ago that things wouldn't be too rosy when it came time to announce Q2 results, and rosy things are not. Even though the handset maker was hoping and praying to break even at the end of the quarter, net profits ended up falling through the floor to the tune of 97%. As predicted, weak sales of mid-to-high-end mobiles were blamed for the bulk of the bad news, and it did affirm that conditions would remain rough for the rest of the year. Granted, the looming launch of the Xperia X1 should help matters a bit, but without a new stable of low-end cellies to send to emerging markets, it'll be a long road back to the top. Unfortunately, SE's sagging position in the market has left it slashing 2,000 jobs across the globe, though it didn't say exactly where the cuts would be made.
