The comic-geeks over at Big Download followed the clues left in DC comic books this week and have found a MySpace page for DC Universe Online. The site contains the painfully small first screenshots seen in the gallery below. The MySpace page also showcases several concept drawings for the game and wallpaper downloads. Also, those who make the game's MySpace page their top friend, may get invited to Sony Online Entertainment's big reveal party later this month at Comic-Con in San Diego.[Via BigDownload] Gallery: DC Universe Online

Sony Online Entertainment's highly-anticipated DC Universe Online just got a whole lot cooler. In this month's Edge magazine, executive creative director Jim Lee reveals some new information on the super hero MMO that is due out sometime next year. This game is described by Lee as a "kick-ass hybrid between a traditional MMO and a first-person action console game". Character creation promises to be diverse, and all of the expected MMO features are listed: character leveling, PvP arenas, raids, shared environments as well as instanced zones. While you may not be able to actually play as Superman or Batman, you will be able to meet them in game, and even battle them if you're playing the villain. Not only that, the first two large shared environments that are revealed so far include Metropolis and Gotham City.

The official website for Midway's Unreal-powered, cross-dimensional brawler, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, has posted the first shot of what appears to be Superman's 3D model. As you can see, the developers have managed to capture the Kryptonian's chiseled features, indestructible physique and patriotic pose quite well. So well, in fact, that we're left feeling a little sorry for the mere mortal kombatants.%Gallery-23376%

  • No Wii Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe due to Unreal Engine

When we heard about Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, the first thing we asked ourselves was, "Why?" The second thing we asked ourselves was, "No really, why?" Then we started to wonder, though, why this game wasn't heading to the Wii. It's not that we're going to miss it (although we're sure some of you might, and that's completely fine). It's just that the decision to snub the Wii doesn't seem to make any business sense. The Wii does have a pretty large userbase, after all, and according to the Mortal Kombat series' co-creator and executive producer, Ed Boon, Armageddon did well on the Wii. In Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, were graphics really going to be that much of an issue? As it turns out, the issue is the Unreal Engine. Since the newest version of the engine doesn't officially exist for the Wii, the developers thought it would be too challenging to bring the game to Nintendo's console. Yet, according to Boone, they're not against the idea. If they're waiting for Epic to support the Unreal Engine on the Wii, though, they better not hold their breath. Whether or not Midway will one day use the unofficial engine and port the game to the Wii remains to be seen.[Via GoNintendo]
