HTC Touch Diamond soft keyboard comes to other WinMo phones
We weren't too thrilled with the Touch Diamond's resistive touchscreen when we got a chance to play with HTC's new hotness, but if you're envious of that updated soft keyboard, you're in luck: the Diamond's ROMs have already been pulled apart and the .cab files are just a click away. Installation is said to be slow and you'll have to jump through some hoops to switch the default language from Italian, but things will eventually work out for you -- although we doubt anyone's going to be nearly as impressed as if you had a real Touch Diamond.[Via MobilitySite]
HTC Touch Diamond vs. iPhone, fight!
Our brethren over at Engadget Chinese had the chance to size-up HTC's new Windows Mobile 6.1 Touch Diamond with Apple's iPhone this morning in Taiwan. We have to admit, HTC's CEO was dead-on when he claimed that the Diamond's "not too big, not too small" after seeing it side-by-side with Microsoft's left-coast nemesis. It looks like (surprise!) just like every other generation of Pokémon games, Diamond and Pearl are going to be joined by a third almost-identical game. HTC Touch Diamond hits the FCC
Ah -- we'd know that backside anywhere. If you were super-duper stoked about the forthcoming HTC Touch Diamond, you might want to sit down. Apparently, High Tech Computer Corp. has already sent this beauty over to the FCC, where a room is currently filled with men in white coats meticulously judging the above label placement. Regardless, this might bode well for a US release of the company's latest and greatest... don't you think? While you ponder that brainteaser, feel free to truck over to the FCC's site and get all the information you could possibly want about the Diamond's RF exposure.
HTC Touch Diamond hands-on
We had a little thumb-print orgy with the new HTC Touch Diamond immediately following its launch. Light and small, the Touch Diamond comes off as a unit with promise. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait a while to get our hands on this via a US carrier, but Orange users in the UK will no doubt be pretty happy with this new handset, the first of its kind to use Windows Mobile 6.1.Check out the gallery below, complete with comments and interface walk-through. HTC unveils new HTC Touch Diamond, "not too big, not too small"
Here we are in London at the Soho Hotel with HTC, and we are among the first to see their new Diamond handset. While we thought we may see three new products in three different form factors, HTC Prez and CEO Peter Chou led-off the event by mentioning that they would be launching just one product today. He peppered his intro by talking about the Touch, so we were prepared to see an update on that product utilizing their TouchFLO tech. The device has some pretty nice interface tech that they're calling TouchFLO 3D that heavily emphasizes one-touch browsing and single-finger dialing. They emphasized web accessibility, zoom-in navigation with "just one hand" and not too many fingers. As expected, the device is loaded with Windows Mobile 6.1, a VGA screen and HSDPA 7.2, among other nice specs.Updates, specs, and pics after the break!
HTC Diamond screen shots floating around?
As we hurl headlong toward HTC's May 6 date with destiny, the Diamond is looking more and more like the headlining act for the unveiling -- but what's it gonna look like when they turn it on? Screen shots of a purported Diamond have turned up on Chinese site PDAFans, and if they turn out to be legit, the answer is "pretty much like any other Windows Mobile 6.1 device." One of the Diamond's alleged claims to fame is a revamped TouchFLO interface, though we're not really seeing a heck of a lot of that here; just a whole lotta plain-vanilla WinMo that has us thinking that this is either fake or an early prototype with an particularly barren build loaded. Doesn't really matter how hot the hardware ends up being -- unless HTC manages to impress with the software visuals, we suspect there are going to be a lot of disappointed people when this one starts shipping.[Via PDAPhoneHome, thanks Joseph G.]
HTC confirms Diamond with VGA touchscreen launch next month?
We already knew it was coming, now HTC has seemingly confirmed that its Diamond handset will be announced next month presumably at the May 6th event. Unfortunately, the wording of the Taipei Times article (which we assume was translated from Chinese) leaves HTC's comments open to interpretation. Speaking to a group of investors, HTC's financial executive Cheng Hui-ming, said that revenues will grow by 20% this year thanks to the launch of a new Touch phone next month. Referring to the HTC Diamond by name, he then calls the device "the most important product for HTC this year." Interesting considering that HTC is widely expected to launch the first Android handset -- dubbed Dream -- before the end of the year. Regardless, the 3G Diamond with Windows Mobile 6.1 running beneath a large, glossy, VGA touchscreen display with WiFi and 3 megapixel camera is certainly going to attract a lot interest from us and our wallets.
HTC's Raphael and Diamond: coming to Sprint and looking good
No one really knows whether HTC's May 6 gathering will usher in the age of Android (our guess is still "no"), but let's look a little beyond that, shall we? We've just laid eyes on a handful of documents detailing HTC's efforts to ready the Diamond and Raphael models -- already known to be valid HTC codenames -- for Sprint later this year, and things are definitely looking up in the post-Touch world. The Diamond turns out to be the successor to that very device, lacking a physical keyboard and relying almost exclusively on a large, glossy touchscreen for user input; the Raphael meanwhile (pictured) features a full QWERTY deal and is destined to replace the Mogul. The paperwork's pretty blurry, but it appears that both Windows Mobile devices will feature WiFi, 3 megapixel cameras, and -- get this -- VGA displays. Goodness! The Raphael is currently lined up to be the first out of the gate, hitting the streets in September if everything goes well, with the Diamond following on in November. Surprised that these devices are CDMA-based and Sprint bound? Darkrai distribution events coming to Toys R' Us May 31 - June 1
If that headline appeared nigh undecipherable to your uninitiated eyes, count yourself very, very lucky, and quickly move on to the next story. Those whose hearts and pokeballs perked up upon seeing that teasing title will be happy to know that the heretofore uncatchable Darkrai, of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl fame, will be made quite catchable come the weekend of May 31 - June 1, when participating Toys R' Us stores will digitally distribute the inn key required to reach said public enemy no. 491.Though it's been a year since the monster enslaving simulator was released, we're sure that the retailer will find themselves slammed by DS-wielding trainers-in-training over the course of that weekend. We doubt that the avarice of many a poketrainer has been slaked by the current digital menagerie -- as they march onward into adorable battle, do they shout, "Gotta Catch All But One or Two of Them?" Rumor: Pokemans: Let Nintendo sell you them again
The latest issue of CoroCoro Comic has turned out to be a gold mine of Nintendo rumors, as a scan of the magazine has revealed another very believable rumor about a big Nintendo franchise. This time they're strongly implying that a new Pokémon game will come out this year, and that it'll probably be the third game in the Diamond and Pearl series.Since, as the chart here indicates, every pair of Pokémon games are followed by one of these 'remakes' (except for FireRed and LeafGreen, which are themselves remakes), we find this rumor completely plausible. And Pokémon fans, who have been conditioned into a collecting mentality, will buy the game for a third time.[Via NeoGAF]
Mitsubishi intros slew of HDTVs, says LaserVue is coming in Q3
Mitsubishi and the onset of Spring can only mean one thing: an onslaught of HDTVs. Just as it did last year, the aforementioned outfit is busting out a plethora of high-definition sets to whet your appetite. As for the new line of April-bound DLPs ($1,799 to $4,699), you can expect the entire lot -- which ranges from 60- to 73-inches in size -- to sport 1080p panels, thinner frames than those on prior models, increased brightness, Mitsu's own 6-Color Processor and 3D-readiness. Moving on, we've got the new family of Ultra Thin Frame 1080p LCD HDTVs ($2,499 to $4,499; shipping in May), which span between 40- and 52-inches and feature low-profile speakers, Smooth 120Hz Film Motion / GalleryPlayer technology, 10-bit panels, 6-Color Processor, x.v.Color and Deep Color. For these and the DLPs, those who opt for the Diamond series will be treated to Variable Smooth 120Hz Film Motion technology, a DeepField Imager and an oh-so-desirable blue light accent. Lastly, the Laser TV which made its debut at CES 2008 is on track for a Q3 release, and just as predicted, it'll be going by the name LaserVue and sporting a currently undisclosed price tag. HTC actually readying Diamond / Raphael smartphones?
Rumors of a so-called HTC Diamond have been circulating since last year, but it seems legitimate evidence is beginning to mount in favor of the firm actually releasing one. According to placeholders on the Bluetooth SIG's official website, HTC has a Diamond and Raphael "PDA Phone" queued for release in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America. Unfortunately, this database isn't nearly as telling as the one maintained by the FCC, so we're at a loss when it comes to specifications, pictures and practically anything worth noting. Exclusive Toshiba "Cosmic Shiner" is studded with diamonds, costs 4k
We guess that the luxury handset market is alive and well as Toshiba has jumped on board with the Cosmic Shiner, a $4,000 diamond-studded phone. Based on Toshiba's 815T -- and no, this one doesn't transform -- which features HSDPA, FeliCa -- used for services like electronic wallet and identification -- a 2 megapixel camera, and memory expansion via microSD. There are only 1000 of these gem-encrusted monsters available and to get one you'll need to secure yourself a unique ID number -- apparently will be found in Seven Hills magazine -- to get in the running. They're magically delicious!
Very early in patch 2.4's progressive development on the PTR, the ability to send raid icons over chat was implemented. The syntax is pretty simple, you place the name of the icon in those funny looking brackets, like so: {circle}, {star}, etc.Personally, I'm not too terribly excited, it's not something you'll be typing on the fly, probably. I can't really see a Mage or Warlock(or anybody) taking the extra time to type that out properly when something goes wrong(ie death), as simple as it seems to do so. However, this could be a good tool for raid leaders, not so much the raiders. A raid leader could include these in a tanking/crowd control assignment macro. "/ra Matthew, tank {skull}. Christian, sheep {square}." That sort of thing.Regardless of how often this will actually be used, it's a nice little feature, and I'm sure post-2.4 mods and addons will make good use of them, even if the players themselves don't.
Diamond-studded iPod shuffle to be auctioned in London
Yeah, there's a lot of good, civically-minded things you could do with your cash... but wouldn't it be more fun to blow it on a 1GB iPod? If you're dying to prove how little £20,000 (or around $40,000) means to you, here's your chance. A jeweler named Thomas Heyerdahl has created an 18 karat, diamond studded, white and pink gold iPod shuffle, meant to be auctioned at a charity in London. Pricey flash drives are a dime a dozen (so to speak), but just in case you haven't found one quite ugly enough to call your own, why not feast your eyes on the Adamant? The limited edition drive will be limited to 50 units worldwide and will feature 16GB of capacity, a trio of diamonds, a dash of yellow gold and a sleek black box that'll quickly get tossed moments after it arrives. Get your grubby mitts on a Pokemon mystery gift

Once you get the gift, which you can receive by solving a couple of click-happy puzzles set up by Nintendo, you can transfer it to your copy of Pokemon Diamond and/or Pearl on your DS. So what is the gift? It's a mystery, how should we know? We'd like to find out, but in the fast-paced, life-and-death world of blogging, we don't have the time to solve the mysteries of Pokemon gifts. Round up your Pokemon for a photo
Just about the only thing we knew about the Pokemon Wii Ware title, Pokémon Ranch, is that you can import critters from Diamond and Pearl. According to the latest preview from Famitsu, you'll be able to play with those Pokemans once they get to the ranch, in the game now officially titled Minna no Pokémon Bokujou (Everyone's Pokémon Ranch). No better way to give your fighting slave a break than by forcing it to dance and give you a piggyback ride!You can also pose (your Mii) for pictures with those Pokemans, which can be saved on an SD card and transferred to a computer. A real computer, not one of those in-game Pokémon computers used to transfer captured Pokémon.[Via Famitsu]
