Hmmmmm, well this is certainly curious. Although there is no official word that the PlayStation 3's 20GB model is finished, the Sony Style stores haven't had them in stock for a long time and the SonyStyle.com mother ship is done with the model -- it's no longer listed on the site. We contacted SonyStyle.com and were told, "We haven't had it in stock for a month ... We're not getting any more. You could maybe go out and find one." Going to a Sony Style store isn't going to get you anywhere either. One store we called had the same story as SonyStyle.com. A sales representative said, "We haven't gotten those [20GB] models in for a long time. We have plenty of 60 gig models in stock." When asked if the model had been discontinued he said, "Not officially ... but we haven't seen any in a long time."Best Buy stopped carrying the 20 GB model last month. As of mid-March Sony told us the 20GB model was still being manufactured and that "retailers have been requesting the 60GB model, the mix has been about 80 percent 60GB, 20 percent 20GB retailer orders." Sony's own stores are part of that 80 percent now. Having two models of the PlayStation 3 is a nice gesture, but if a product is no longer being stocked by anyone, including Sony's own retail chain, does it really still exist?[Thanks Jason]

  • iSight prices on eBay skyrocket - will there be an encore?

Apple's stand-alone FireWire iSight may have recently gone end-of-life, but people's interest in the devices is still going strong, so sayeth eBay. While the iSight's retail price was $129, I'm seeing actual bids ranging from $152 all the way up to $280 as of this writing, with Buy It Now sellers bringing on the greed with prices in the range of $289 up through $500+. Even more astonishing are the completed listings - items that have actually sold (barring any fraudulent activity, of course) - which top out at $610 for a new, in-box iSight. As before, we're still just as curious as you are as to whether there will be a stand-alone iSight 2.0. With most of Apple's lineup now sporting built-in iSights, and rumors of the Cinema Display line not being far behind, it's questionable as to whether we should hold our breath. Thanks Austin!

  • Cingular to Ogo: time to say goodnight

Well, you had a good run, Ogo; you really did. Okay, that's not even remotely true -- you had a lackluster launch on AT&T Wireless before the Cingular takeover cut you down in your prime -- but we digress. For those that may not recall, the Ogo is a QWERTY-sporting device that lacks voice capability (at least in AT&T Wireless' configuration), relegating it largely to IM and email duty. Cingular's finally pulling the plug on its remaining customers of the odd little clamshell next month, offering a $75 service credit in its stead. Of course, with the Ogo recently making strides in Uruguay and elsewhere, it's far from dead, but using one in the US of A just got a little harder. [Warning: PDF link]
