Chocobo Tales, Square Enix's Final Fantasy spinoff, made for a great release to pass the Spring months with, but it can be hard for a minigame-filled RPG to elbow its way to the front of a crowd filled with must-have DS titles. If you haven't had a chance to pick up Chocobo Tales yet, maybe Amazon's latest sale will be what finally motivates you. The online shop has slashed $10 off of the game's usual cost, bringing it down to a budget price of $19.99. Eyonix has posted another mention of Blizzard's partnership with Renaissance Entertainment Productions on the forums. It seems that World of Warcraft and the almighty Renaissance Pleasure Faire are tied together now, at least in the spirit of common commerce. I grew up going to the Southern faire as those on this coast call it, and although it's been years since I've been able to attend, I cherish my memories of those times as the start of my geekhood. I can honestly credit my creative writing degree to the 30 second Hamlet. Now these experiences can be yours, and for a pretty hefty discount. Huzzah for the coupons! World of Warcraft players will get 20% off tickets. This wouldn't be that big of a deal if it were only in Southern California, but Renaissance Entertainment Productions hosts several faires around the country including Wisconsin and New York, and WoW players will be able to use the coupons at each of them. These are also the best faires in the country, folks, so if you get the chance you shouldn't pass up a really good time. Imagine, whole 10-man raids on the steak-on-a-stake vendor! Orcs and night elves everywhere! The opportunities for cosplay are endless. It's enough to make me want to break out my bodice and recorder and head on south. Look for the Southern faire between now and May 20th, and check the website for dates on the other faires across the US. [via WoW forums]

Missed out on Mega Man ZX last year? Now is the time to make things right! Amazon has slashed the action-platformer's price down to almost half of its original $29.99 cost, offering the title up for $16.16 ((free shipping on orders over $25).ZX was praised for its punishing difficulty and Metroidvania design, hailed by some critics as the best release to hit the Capcom series since Mega Man 2 for the NES. Does that sound like a title you'd want to skip? We can't guarantee that this sale price will last for long, so buy it now while it's still cheap! Check past the post break for a trailer if you're still not convinced. [Via CAG]

If you're desperate to join the Pokemon playing masses, but don't have enough cash to spend on luxury items like Diamond and Pearl releases, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team might be more suited to your budget. Amazon has a one-day deal for the game, offering new copies of the dungeon crawler at a sale price of $16.99. Though this title strays from the usual Pokemon formula, fans of roguelikes will have a lot of fun with it. That Piplup punk can take a hike anyway! The word that there might be as many as 9000 switchers a day got us thinking: maybe all those switchers could use some tips on how to save a few bucks while hopping the fence to white, black and aluminum pastures. Sure, Apple typically doesn't offer much in the way of excitement when it comes to zany blow-out sales on their products, but who says you have to buy your Apple stuff from Apple? There are plenty of resellers who offer some great deals to lure customers away from Apple's shiny stores, and discount watching sites can help you jump on time-sensitive sales. If you take our tips to heart, we guarantee both you and your credit card will sleep better at night with your next (or first) Mac purchase. Read our recommendations after the jump.

After finally getting around to reading this Sunday's fifteen pound paper we've stumbled upon a pretty good deal for Call of Duty fans. This week at Circuit City you can get the newer 360 version of Call of Duty 3 Gold Edition for only $39.99. Though, it looks like it is sold out online, so you may have to stop by your local store to get this deal. The difference between the original COD 3 and the gold edition is that the gold edition comes with a bonus disc of additional content and a key code to download the Valor Map Pack off of the XBLM for free. That's a $10 savings my friends. See, reading the newspaper can be fun, that is when you find good deals on video games.

Gadget geeks have Woot, free software hounds have Giveawayoftheday, and indie gamers have Game du Jour. The "one deal a day" website offers a new casual game at a massive discount very day of the week. So far the offerings have been limited to classic arcade clones, card games, or simple puzzle titles. But from time to time they drop the bomb with a deal you just can't pass up.Today is one of those days. Game du Jour is featuring Gumboy Crazy Adventures, a game that's as weird as the title sounds. It's a physics-based platformer similar to Chronic Logic's Gish where you control a rubbery balloon-type character using its momentum to move through each stage. The artwork is divine and the gameplay itself is quite unique. Game Tunnel voted Gumboy Crazy Adventures 2006 Game of the Year. No small feat considering the excellent games that rolled out last year.Game du Jour is offering Gumboy Crazy Adventures today only for $9.97, half the the usual price. Later in the week the 3D arcade game Shlongg (you read that right) is on the chopping board, followed by the strategy game Kingdom Elemental, another offering from Chronic Logic and number ten on Game Tunnels Game of the Year list.Cheapass indie gamers, this is your week to spend.

Today, and today only, Best Buy stores in the United States are running a video game clearance to get rid of some old video game stock. According to a post on IGN's forums, select games from numerous consoles including the Xbox 360 are clearance priced and ripe for the picking. We noticed that Full Auto, King Kong, and Ridge Racer 6 are all listed for the rock bottom price of $1.99! Of course, the games are pretty crappy, but you can get some easy achievements or sell them on eBay. Other Xbox 360 titles are clearance priced at either $4.99 or $9.99 including Oblivion CE which is only $9.99. But be sure to note that this is a clearance and the available games will vary dramatically from store to store. And for your convenience, the full list of Xbox 360 clearance games and their prices are listed after the break.[Via Digg]

  • FCC tightens rules on spectrum auction discounts

    by

Major wireless carriers planning to partner with smaller providers in order to get discounts on the upcoming wireless spectrum landrush have just been delivered a major blow by the FCC, with the agency announcing a tighter set of rules and penalties on a practice that had been popular in past auctions. According to the new rules, smaller carriers only qualify for discounts if they lease less than 50% of their licensed spectrum to other operators, and those discounts will be "further examined" for carriers sub-leasing as little as a quarter of their spectrum. Furthermore, if a carrier goes ahead and leases too much spectrum within the first five years after they've obtained a license, they must repay the entire amount of the discount plus interest. What does this all mean for the consumer? We're not completely sure about all the specifics, but we wouldn't be at all surprised if the increased costs to the major carriers happen to trickle down to our bills.

  • Apple's special deals section filled to brim, hemmoraging iPods

While I was pondering whether the introduction of Remote Desktop 3 was worthy of shutting down the Apple Store this morning, C.K. pointed out that Apple also updated their Special Deals section. A lot. I can't remember the last time I've had to scroll this much on a page in the Apple Store. It looks like they have refurbished items from almost every one of their products except the MacBook Pro, but they're highlighting the iPod mini with their Special Deals graphic (pictured) almost as if to say "go on iPod mini. 'Git!"I'd try linking Apple's Special Deals section, but I know that always gets wonky. Plus, the tips I've found like Ars Technica's don't cover linking a section, so all you get is a link to the Apple Store. You're on your own for the rest of the way.

Is the Xbox Live Diamond Card launching this Friday everywhere you want to be? Depends if your current life ambition is to eat Quiznos subs, rent a couple games at Hollywood Video and wear Etnies skate shoes while searching the Sam Goody DVD bin for a 10% off copy of Meet the Fockers. Actually, the deals offered by the Diamond Card look pretty good as far as loyalty schemes go. It seems more useful than that waste of wallet space Gamestop Card. Since I live in Wilmington, the credit-crack capital of the world (see Durden, Tyler), I have to wonder if this could lead to a full blown XBL affinity credit card with Halo 3 points and Blazing Angels frequent flyer miles.I'm sure having your gamertag on a card will impress the kids at band camp. And few will complain about two-fer-one Chicken Carbonaras. But as a gamer, there's only one thing that I want out of any program like this: free games.See also:Beware Microsoft's domain squatting faux pas[Thanks David]
