What we're watching: We mentioned Warren Miller's high-def programming previously, but it never came to my neck of the woods, likely because we have more cows than people here. Apparently there are scientific studies underway to determine if cattle can tell the difference between 720p and 1080i; until we see the findings I'll have to tune in to INHD tonight at 11 p.m. "Warren Miller's Snowriders II" takes to the ski slopes in 1080i and should be a treat. If 11 p.m. is past your bedtime, don't fret since it's past mine too. While I get hopped up on caffeine, you might want to tune in to "American Idol" on Fox. The two hour auditions in 720p take the stage at 8 p.m.; caffeine is not required, although a solid set of earplugs might come in handy. After the jump is our traditional listing of HD programs throughout the night.

What we're watching: Since we really can't pick "24" every Monday, we're recommending the entire Monday night CBS lineup tonight. Every show is a new episode and the 1080i high-def starts at 8 p.m. with "King of Queens". The comedy in "How I Met Your Mother" is slowly making us fans at 8:30 p.m., while "Two and a Half Men" have been funny from the start at 9 p.m. "Courting Alex" is new as a mid-season replacement at 9:30 p.m. and "CSI: Miami" at 10 p.m. is simply one of the best HDTV shows on the air. What we're watching: With just four teams left vying for two Super Bowl spots, it's all about the high-def pigskin today. The AFC game between the Steelers and the Broncos kicks off at 3 p.m. on CBS. This game is in 1080i, while the NFC game is in 720p. Fox goes deep in their NFL coverage starting at 6:30 p.m. with the Panthers pouncing on the Seahawks. Let's forget which teams we want to win for a sec; after you watch a little (or all) of each, drop us a comment with your thoughts on the whole 1080i vs. 720p fight. Regardless of the progressive nature that helps sports programming, I'm personally still a 1080i guy as the picture looks clearer to me. How about you? What we're watching: I don't know what NBC's Thursday night lineup is doing for their overall ratings, but it's definitely a boon for HDTV watchers. NBC may attribute The Office's higher ratings to iPod downloads but I say keep lining it up with the easter-egg packed My Name is Earl (btw, keep an eye out tonight, the name of the epsiode is "Stole P's HD Cart", so you know they're going to be up to something),  and you can't possibly do better for 1080i humor. From 8 to 10 p.m. I know what channel I'll be watching, although we'll also check out ABC's new show Crumbs, not to mention new episodes of CSI and Everybody Hates Chris. Those Snapstream guys may be on to something with that 11 tuner DVR. After the jump is our traditional listing of HD programs throughout the night.

What we're watching: Ouch! Our ears are still hurting from the American Idol wannabe's from last night. I don't think we can take the second day of auditions, so we'll pass on that. Instead, we're gearing up early for March Madness with a top-notch tip-off at 7 p.m. on ESPN-HD. Number 14 North Carolina State takes on top-ranked Duke in 720p. This ACC match up is likely a preview of what we'll see in March. If you're wondering what "March Madness" is all about, then we're recommending "Million Dollar Baby" for you. Tune in to HBO-HD for this 4-time Oscar winner in 1080i at 7:45 p.m.After the jump is our traditional listing of HD programs throughout the night.

Oh you folks in the UK are in for a real treat: Discovery HD is the final channel in the Sky high-definition offerings. In our opinion, Discovery HD has one of the best (if not the best) archive of high-def footage and programming. From science to nature and everything in between (like Rousch Racing: Driver X), Discovery HD has rocked our HD worlds here in the US for several years.Discovery HD joins the current lineup planned including: Artsworld HD, Sky Sports HD, Sky One HD, Sky Box Office HD, Sky Movies 9 HD, Sky Movies 10 HD and National Geographic HD. How about it, American readers: agree or disagree that Discovery HD is a great addition to the Sky UK lineup? Can you think of a better channel?

What we're watching: We're trying not to play favorites with Fox, but after four episodes of the gritty and intense "24", we could use a good laugh. The comedy starts at 8 p.m. on Fox with a two hour season five premiere of "American Idol" from Chicago in 720p. If you have a home theater capable of Dolby Digital Surround Sound, you might want to turn it off until later in the season; these auditions typically represent both the best and the very worst there is.The fun ends just in time to watch Tom "My name is not Ed" Cavanaugh in the series opener of "Love Monkey." You can catch Ed Tom on CBS at 10 p.m. in 1080i.After the jump is our traditional listing of HD programs throughout the night.

What we're watching: Hm, night of mostly repeats or new eps of "24". <sarcasm>Tough call, no?</sarcasm> Ok, there's really no contest here tonight for high-def programming: two more fresh, new hours of "24" tonight at 8 p.m. on Fox gets the HD Beat nod. The 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. hours air in 720p and last night got us off to a great start. We won't put any spoilers out there, so if you missed 'em, find someone with a DVR or get those episodes from some other (legal) method. Hey if "24" isn't your thang, we almost forgive you. In fact, we'll turn our backs if you want to catch the Golden Globes in SD on NBC (I can't believe we just said that) while TV Squad live blogs the red carpet at 6 p.m. followed by Cinematical providing real-time coverage of the actual awards show. Hey, all that "real-time" stuff is very 24-esqe, no?After the jump is our traditional listing of HD programs throughout the night.

What we're watching: There's really only one show for me tonight, but that's likely due to my watching seasons 1 through 4 of "24" on DVD over the past three months. Jack is back on a two-hour premiere of "24" tonight at 8 p.m. on Fox. The 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. hours air in 720p and according to the commercials that I just couldn't avoid, "everything will change in the first 10 minutes." I hope what doesn't change is the intensity and action that explodes off of the high-def set. Any guesses as to what tomorrow night's pick will be? We'll give you a hint: the next two episodes of "24" are on their regularly scheduled night of Monday.Don't miss the live "24" chat over at TV Squad; tune in your chat client at 7:00 p.m. EST by finding the chat room info here. What we're watching: Two of the best AFC teams in the NFL take to the 1080i gridiron on CBS tonight. The Patriots step up to Mile-High Stadium to tackle the Broncos at 8 p.m. and this game could go either way. If for any reason the game gets one-sided (which I doubt), I'll be jacking in to "The Matrix" on TNT-HD at 10:30 p.m. for a 1080i showing. The Oracle already told me who wins the football game anyway... After the jump is our traditional listing of HD programs throughout the night.

What we're watching: Since I caught zero high-def programming at CES (but plenty of HD sets), I've missed the new "In Justice" show on ABC. Tonight, I'll hop over to see it, but if this is a bad call on my part, well....you know what to as the comments are always open. The 1080i presentation fires off at 9 p.m. this evening. As a backup pick there's always TNT-HD since they're airing "Blade 2" in 1080i at 8 p.m. and again at 10 p.m. This wasn't the best of sequels (very few are), but from a high-def visual perspective, it's worth two hours of your time. Just for fun, MonstersHD is broadcasting a "Friday the 13th" marathon as well; tune in when you've got time and you're sure to catch some 1080i terror. What we're watching: Will the new Thursday night line-up thrive for NBC? That's our question and that's what we'll be watching tonight starting at 8 p.m. in 1080i. First up is a live episode of "Will & Grace", which is a can't miss since we'll all be watching for any goof-ups in high-def. "Four Kings" looks intriguing and funny so far, but will the magic last or will this become "Four Jokers" at 8:30 p.m.? The newest shows in the lineup are already fan favorites, so we don't even have to recommend "My Name is Earl" and "The Office", but we will anyway. If the Thursday night comedy gets old, hop on over to HDNet Movies at 9:15 p.m. for "Clear and Present Danger" with Harrison Ford; just about any Tom Clancy movie looks and sounds great in HD. What we're watching: Besides watching a name change to our daily post to make it clearer to the readers, we're using both eyes to watch "Lost". One eye will be on ABC starting at 8 p.m. for the series recap in 720p. The other eye will be on-line for the live "Lost" chat over at TV Squad. If you check in at 8 p.m. (and not a minute sooner!), you'll get the chat room information. Oh, and don't go anywhere at 9 p.m. because the next new episode is on also. Get your chat-fingers all limbered up and give your remote control the night off: tune in to ABC and TV Squad. We can't guarantee that the chat will be in high-def, but at least the show will be HD! What we're watching: Many shows kick off the second half of their season with new eps tonight. I've been waiting for Boston Legal's next round for the past several months, even though I don't typically watch it. Why will I tune in to ABC at 10 p.m. tonight for the 720p presentation? Michael J. Fox. He's back for four episodes starting tonight and you have to give him credit for fighting the good fight. Here's to you Michael: you're our high-def pick for the day; we wish you all the best. What we're watching: C'mon man, we all know you can't wait to see Heather Graham in Emily's Reasons Why Not tonight. After the amazingly glowing advertisement Keith Jackson gave for it, how couldn't you?Personally, I'll be checking out Million Dollar Baby on HBO because "nobody puts Baby in a corner", I have no idea what that means because I haven't seen the movie yet, but I will. What we're watching: If you know me on a Sunday night, you know it's all about Grey's Anatomy, back with a new episode after taking a week off. *shrug*, I'm at work when General Hospital is on and I gotta get my fill of soap opera-y doctoring. It's even one of Sarah's Top 5 of 2005. I'm probably going to have to hand in my man card if anyone finds out I read the fake blog of one of the characters.Edit: Oops, looks like the Grey's Anatomy ep is one of those lame recap episodes, feel free to skip if you're up to speed already. (Thanks Bill K)If Grey's isn't your speed, HBO has The Sopranos followed up by Deadwood in glistening 1080i, and I hear that in surround sound you can actually tell what the people in Deadwood are saying. Crazy, I know. After the jump is our traditional listing of HD programs throughout the night.

I read an interesting piece on Bit-tech today, in it the author goes to great length to tell the world how well off he is without an HDTV and how he doesn't really need one even for the Xbox 360 that he doesn't have yet. Why buy an HDTV?, there's hardly any programming and the games look just fine on the TV he proudly bought 6 years ago.First, there are several things I agree with him on. There has been much misinformation spread about how HDTV works, whether or not you'll see a benefit to your next generation games without an HDTV, etc. Anyone who tells you they can't tell the difference between Xbox and Xbox 360 games no matter what the TV, is blind or simply trying to attract attention. Comparing screenshots of ports is only relevant if you are planning on buying your next gen console to play last gen games. Also, there is somewhat limited HDTV programming available, especially in England where the writer appears to be from, which besides being overrun by wolves is also only just recently starting to have HD broadcasts become available. With all that, you might start to think, why should I buy an HDTV? Here's why.

What we're watching: We've got a couple new shows premiering in HD tonight, as well as new episodes for some old favorites. Curiosity alone will have me tuning into Book of Daniel (banned in Terra Haute!), but here in the Detroit area, we'll be watching the Pistons take on the Seattle Supersonics in 1080i.If you're not into sports or religious controversy, there is always ABC's new show In Justice, more lawyer-y stuff than you can shake a stick at. What we're watching: It's a very very good night for HD, unless you're into sports, but seriously, I don't know if I'm recovered from THE VINCE YOUNG SPECTACULAR I witnessed last night, great great game. Tonight I'll be checking for the debut of NBC's new Thursday night "Must-see TV" lineup, mixing our favorite HD show, My Name is Earl, with The Office, Will & Grace, and the debut of Four Kings, all in HD (but Scrubs isn't, Lord, why hast thou forsaken me?)If you can possibly bring yourself to watch more sports action, after a triple-double last night against the Bucks, Lebron &Co. are back in action against the Rockets on TNT at 8 .
