Is your Droid not finding its way to the internet mothership? Don't worry, it's not your hardware, it's your carrier's wireless connection -- or the lack thereof, to be more precise. We've heard from a bunch of folks this morning that Verizon's 3G network is experiencing a slight bout of disconnectedness, causing a great deal of grief and discombobulation around the country. Just sit tight, we're sure engineers are engineering solutions as we type this, and will update you as soon as things have been rectified. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in] Update: Some parts of the country are reporting their 3G service has been restored, though it's not yet certain that all troubles have been ironed out. Our own Droids seem to be working fine now, how about yours?

  • Comcast internet down across parts of the eastern seaboard, fix on the way

Twitter's abuzz with angry Comcast customers tonight, as internet service is down in Boston and parts of the eastern United States, a situation the company's since confirmed at its official Twitter account. Comcast's calling it an unexpected outage and says that "engineers are finalizing the correction" as we speak, though it's admittedly been a couple of hours since that tweet. Meanwhile, Twitter at large seems to have figured out it's a Comcast DNS issue, and have had some luck switching to alternate servers like Google's at 8.8.4.4. and 8.8.8.8. Let us know if those work in comments after the break... assuming you manage to find this post in the first place given the present state of your connection. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

  • Apple Store is down... and back up, with no changes

The store's down!* We're not sure why (if I had to guess, I'd say they're updating the listings for bumper cases, since those recently returned to the retail shelves), but we'll keep an eye on things and let you know what's new when it comes back. Meanwhile, don't panic. We want a new iPod nano, too, but you can surely wait a few more minutes until the store returns to normal. *In the United States, anyway. Update: The store is back up, but there are no obvious changes staring us in the face. If you see something we've missed, let us know in the comments.

  • Apple Store down, Waldo still hiding in the country listings (update: new Compare Macs feature)

Judging by the four dozen or so emails that have popped up in our email since midnight ET, Apple has put up its great big Sticky Note™ to mask whatever it is doing behind the scenes. New MacBooks? iTV? A second-generation iPad with three cameras and your choice of seven colors? Or is it just the kind of standard maintenance that gets everyone all worked up over nothing? That's usually the case for non-Tuesdays, but you never know. We'll keep checking. P.S. - No, Waldo isn't actually hiding on the official Apple Store splash page. Sorry. Update: The Store of Mac has finally booted itself back up, but alas there's nothing new on offer. No white iPhones, no Apple-branded frappuccino makers, nada. Update 2: Spoke too soon. Turns out there's a new Compare Macs feature that you can find after selecting an individual system and subsequently clicking on the new icon hanging near the top left.

It's looking very much like yesterday's hypotheticals about Apple refreshing its hardware are about to bear fruit. The online store has been put on temporary hiatus -- presumably to get all those delicious new specs and pictures in -- and we can probably expect it to churn back into action around the company's typical 8.30AM timeslot.

The Apple Store has just gone into maintenance mode globally in preparation for the launch of iPhone 4 pre-orders, and our readers seem intent on bringing down our tip inbox as well. Steady yourselves, chaps (and ladies), the fun starts when the Store goes back up so let's pace ourselves with all the excitement. We'll alert you as soon as that happens, but for now, let's go easy on the old tip jar, eh? It's not made of Gorilla Glass, you know. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in] Update: AT&T's online portal is showing an iPhone 4 pre-order front end, but is yet to offer users the actual option to order the phone up. See a screenshot of it after the break.

  • PlayStation Network down for 'regularly scheduled maintenance' -- RDR posses take the day off

Wondering why your murderous, alcohol-fueled rampage across the old Southwest has been interrupted? The PlayStation Network is taking a personal day for maintenance (it happens sometimes, even on services we pay for, so insert PSN+ rumors here) from 8 a.m. (PST) to 8:30 p.m. Turning on your PS3 for some Red Dead Redemption or other gaming in the interim displays the above message so for now, all of your Home friends will have to wait. In the meantime, Netflix streaming is still a go so queue up 3:10 to Yuma (the original version, of course) and give that tired horse a break. Update: Looks like everything is back up and running, let us know if you spot any extra features, dimensions or otherwise. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

  • QIK admits Evo 4G launch problems after 20x increase on server load

While record sales are generally a desirable thing, that one-time spike in demand can leave service providers scrambling to cope on launch day. Evo 4G owners are well aware of this after noticing one of the handset's flagship features -- Qik video calling -- was unavailable in the Android Market on Friday. After correcting the issue, Qik then had to pull the app after users experienced intermittent service failures resulting from what Qik calls "an unprecedented 20x" workload increase on its servers. The Qik team is scrambling to provision more capacity and expects to have things under control "shortly."

  • webOS App Catalog, Palm Developer Center down leaving 'install failed' messages in their wake

    05.15.2010

Just a day before the Pre Plus launches on AT&T, current Palm owners are experiencing all kinds of problems related to the App Store and their Palm Profiles. Reports indicate the problems started last night, since then users haven't been able to download new apps or update existing ones from the catalog, while those unlucky enough to have tried a reset have had trouble signing back into their Palm profile in the cloud, and have lost some information like call logs and had to resync their various accounts in webOS. The Palm Developer Website is also down, tossing a "back in a few hours" sign in the window and going out for a few afternoon mimosas. For now, PreCentral posters recommend taking the device off of network time and resetting it to any day prior to today which will allow apps to install and update without issue. A post on the official Palm blog indicates things should be back to normal "soon" so AT&T customers can hopefully avoid any date/time trickery just to get their Foursquare checkins going. Update: Palm says everything should be back to normal. Phew. Thanks, Marcio! [Thanks, William]

Yeah yeah, the Apple Store is down globally, on a Tuesday, and we're sitting on a pile of overdue MacBook Pro and Mac Pro rumors. Next. Update: AppleInsider has a last minute tip showing refreshed MacBooks Pro across the entire range of 13.3-, 15.4-, and 17-inchers. Each ships with 4GB of memory and new Intel Core processors with clocks ranging from 2.4GHz to 2.66GHz with options for glossy, high resolution glossy, and high resolution glossy with anti-glare displays. Some models are expected to offer a 512GB SSD option as well. See the part listings after the break.

Hey, the Apple Store is down. Readers: we know, and we hear you! We're curious too, but we should warn you that since Apple isn't keen on launching products in the middle of the night on a weekend, it's probably nothing. Still, we'll be here if the iPhone 5G pops into existence and ruins our marathon of The X-Files. Until then... maybe hold your tip email. Update: It's back and guess what? Nothing new to report. • PlayStation Network down, so are lots of PS3s (update)

It's unclear exactly what's going on at the moment, but it appears that the PlayStation Network is down and causing a whole host of related problems for PS3 systems, including 8001050F error codes, game crashes, corrupted trophy info, and even the complete inability to launch certain titles. There's no ETA on when things will get back to normal -- looks like it's gonna be a Blu-ray kind of evening for PS3 owners out there. Update: Sony's tweeted that it's "looking into it," and our boys at Joy say that owners of original PS3s are seeing their clocks reset and even data loss in some cases. We'll keep you updated. Update 2: Given that issues started to appear as February 28th became March 1st, it's being speculated that the PSN woes are related to an improper handling of leap years. Similar to the issue that bricked those Zunes back in 2008. Sorry, manually setting your date doesn't help, we tried. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

  • Nexus One experiencing nationwide data outage? (update: it's back!)

Well, Happy Friday to you, too! We've been inundated with tips from perturbed Nexus One users across the country (and even in Puerto Rico) suggesting that their T-Mobile data coverage is completely out of commission. As you can see above, our own Josh Topolsky is seeing the error in Brooklyn, NY. Some users have reported that their SIM card pulls down data when swapped out of the Nexus One and into another handset, and both T-Mobile and HTC tech support centers have purportedly been slammed. At the moment, no one really seems to know what the issue is, but we have seen some reports from owners that their data is coming down just fine. So, what say you? Let us know what's going on with your Nexus One in the poll below. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in] Update: As of 12:54PM ET, it seems that data is back in action for Nexus One users. You should probably try rebooting your phone if it's not. %Poll-40752%

Gonna be a long day for BlackBerry users: RIM's confirmed to multiple outlets that its BIS servers are acting up and that email services are being delayed -- and we're actually hearing that they're just down, period. BlackBerry Messenger still works, though, so you can still BBM your BFF or whatever the kids do nowadays. No word on service restoration, but we'll update you when we find out. P.S.- That's two months in a row with significant BIS problems -- what's up with that, RIM? Update: ... and we're back! [Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Hey, we've been getting a ton of reports that Verizon's network has been down for several hours in Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and California, possibly as a side effect of merging in the Alltell network. We're hearing a six-hour ETA on things being restored, but we're wondering if anyone else is being affected -- hit us up in comments! [Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

We are getting multiple tips that some realms are down. Blizzard says that the Whirlwind and Emberstorm battlegroups are down and that they are currently investigating the matter. We'll keep you posted should anything change. In the meantime, enter to win some real life and in-game loot. Or log on to Zangarmarsh and join the WoW.com guild so you can party with us on Wednesday night. If you are unsure what battlegroup you are in, please consult this listing. Battlegroup listings are after the break. Update 1:16am: Zarhym says the problems were due to a complete power failure. The power is back on and they are trying to bring the realms up now. The party is still raging on Zangarmarsh. Update 11:37pm: They have discovered the source of the battlegroup issues, but still no estimate for when they will be back up. We're having an impromptu party on Zangarmarsh if you would like to join us. Update 11:12pm: I was just able to login. No word yet on the down battlegroups. Update 10:56pm: An official response: they are working on it. Update 10:49pm: Many, including me, are having connection issues. There is a huge forum post on the issue, but no blue response yet.

No shock here, but it seems as if the Zune world as we know it has closed up for the day. The Zune homepage is currently displaying the banner shown above, while a good number of our tipsters and staffers have confirmed that signing into Zune Marketplace is impossible. Of course, it's not like a major new product (and software update, most probably) is slated to officially ship on September 15th or anything, so we'd say a little patience could go a long ways here.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Happy Stevemas boys and girls! As we look forward to the 9-9-09 Apple Event starting later today, which we'll be liveblogging, the Apple Store has quietly gone quiet. Megan noted the early morning price cuts to the iPod line, a bit surprising considering the announcements scheduled for later in the day -- why not wait for the big moment?
