In what can only be seen as a sign of the Next-Gen Portables to come, Sony will cut, nay, slash (perhaps even hack) the price of the PSP-3000 to $130 beginning this weekend. The new price removes a considerable $40 from the previous $170 MSRP. Additionally, all 3000-bundled "Entertainment Packs" will be reduced to $160. The PSP Go price will remain $200, for now. The new price will go into effect this Sunday, just in time for the Academy Awards. "And the Oscar goes to ... value."

  • AT&T offering a free month of Zune to folks who buy a Windows Phone 7 handset this year (update: 3-month Zune Pass from MS, and free Xbox 360s in Austria!)

We already knew AT&T was giving away ilomilo and a free month of U-verse Mobile to folks who buy one of its glorious Windows Phone 7 phones. What else? Well, AT&T is tossing in a free month of Zune Pass for good measure. Now, Microsoft already offers 14 day free trials to the Zune-curious, and there's nothing stopping other carriers or Microsoft itself extending this deal to the rest of the world -- we think the "first one's free" method of addiction generation is particularly great for subscription music. Still, it's nice to know AT&T has such an offer sewn up. Now that the Xbox is getting a native Zune UI at long last, how about a free month of Zune for Xbox Live subscribers as well? Microsoft can afford it. [Thanks, Morgan G.] Update: We just heard that Austrian carrier A1's offering a free Xbox 360 4GB to everyone signing up for or extending a contract for a HTC Trophy on October 21st only, and there'll also be a Xbox 360 raffle for 360 lucky pre-orderers. If you so desire, A1 will also let you sign up for two contracts and take two Xboxes home as well. Our tipster added that the company isn't known for doing giveaways, so it's very likely that it's getting a little help from Microsoft. [Thanks, Ben M.] And speaking of which, another eagle-eyed reader spotted that Microsoft is giving away three-month Zune Passes to those signing up for the WP7 pre-order notification and actually buying a phone. Go get it while it's hot! [Thanks, Bryan]

If you haven't picked up a PSP system yet, the upcoming Invizimals Entertainment Pack may be the best bundle offered by Sony so far. Why? Unlike every other bundle , this includes an extra piece of hardware: the ever-elusive PSP camera. The "Vibrant Blue" color ain't too shabby, either. According to retail listings on Gamestop and Amazon, the $199.99 package includes: PSP-3000 system (Vibrant Blue) Invizimals UMD Game Camera 1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo Downloadable Movie PSN Voucher -- "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" AC Power Cord AC Adaptor Battery Pack Both retailers have the bundle listed for October 12th release. If you own a PSP Go, you may want to consider picking up this bundle -- as of now, there's no confirmation if Invizimals will even work on the Go system.

Click to embiggen. SCEA has announced yet another addition to its growing lineup of PSP "Entertainment Pack" bundles. The upcoming Gran Turismo pack joins Rock Band Unplugged and Hannah Montana this October by packaging a "Mystic Silver" PSP-3000 with a UMD copy of Gran Turismo, downloadable white Corvette ZR1, 2GB Memory Stick, and vouchers for movie and music downloads from the PlayStation Store and Sony Music Pass.At $199, the limited edition bundle seems like quite a bargain, especially when you consider how much cheaper it is than a PSP Go. The announcement of yet another PSP-3000 package reaffirms Sony's stance on supporting UMD as a format -- but also places into doubt the viability of ending PSP piracy any time soon.%Gallery-64985%

  • White PSP Assassin's Creed Bloodlines bundle to sell for $199

Did anyone else think that Sony would have finally killed off the UMD movie for real by now? Guess again, suckers. The company just spilled some more details on that Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines PSP Entertainment Pack, and in addition to that sexy white PSP-3000 and 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, your $199 will get you an as-yet-unnamed feature film on UMD. Yes, even as Sony tip-toes into the future with the PSPgo, it's still trying to peddle movies on a garbage proprietary format no one ever really wanted and that most studios have stopped supporting. Old habits die hard, we suppose. Video after the break.

  • The '$10,000' Madden PSP Entertainment Pack

In order to offset the cost of printing posting an alternative cover for (most versions of) Madden 09, it looks like EA had to raise the price of the new Madden NFL 09 PSP Entertainment Pack to the tune of: $10,000! Graciously, Circuit City has elected to eat a full $9,800 of that cost, leaving pre-orderers with a much more manageable price tag. [Note: Circuit City has since removed the pricing error.]Retailer bloopers aside, the Madden Entertainment Pack (MSRP $200) includes: a very blue PSP, 1GB Memory Stick, Madden 09 (game), download code for Beats ("game"), and -- what's this? -- a movie ... on UMD (they're collector's items you know).[Via PSP Fanboy]

Sony's keen on providing Memory Stick Entertainment Packs. These bundles not only include PSP-compatible Memory Sticks (in 2GB and 4GB flavors), but include a DVD that lets you transfer one movie that's specifically encoded for playback on PSP. The videos come in 720x480 size, making them identical to their DVD counterparts. The 2GB Memory Stick Entertainment Pack (MSX-M2GSEP3) and the 4GB Memory Stick Entertainment Pack (MSX-M4GSEP3) will be available for about $55 and $90. People will have a choice of movies on the disc, including "Click," "Ghost Rider," "RV" and "Stomp the Yard." We're not impressed.

Sony is finally upgrading their long-forgotten "Memory Stick Entertainment Packs." These packs come with a bundled DVD that features four movies, pre-encoded for PSP playback. The previous pack came with the choice of cinematic masterpieces, such as The Grudge, S.W.A.T., Hitch, and XXX: State of the Union. Yeah ...According to IGN, the new MSX-M2GSEP model will feature a different collection of four movies: Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Spider-man 2, Hellboy and S.W.A.T. (again?) While the selection isn't too great, the sheer convenience is certainly appreciated. Unfortunately, the DVD can only be used to unlock one movie, so make sure you choose wisely. This package will be available at Sony Style stores for about $60. The package will also include a 2GB Memory Stick.[Thanks, Joel!]

Buy.com is now taking pre-orders for the PSP Entertainment Pack. At $250 (the same cost of a Value Pack), it includes a PSP system, 1GB Memory Stick Pro Duo, sampler UMD, ATV: Offroad Fury game and Lords of Dogtown UMD movie. Is it worth it? Let's find out: PSP Core System: $200 1GB Memory Stick Duo: $33 ATV Offroad Fury: $20 Lords of Dogtown: $26 The total price for all of these things combined is $279, which means you save $29 with the Combo, but honestly, unless you wanted to get all of those things, it's better off to get yourself the Core system and a Memory Stick of your choice.[Via Playstation.com Forums]
