Eurotech's Zypad WL1500 wearable computer won't let you forget you're wearing a computer
Eurotech's Zypad series of wearable tablets may all look like props from mid-1990s sci-fi movies, but we can't help but admire them just a little bit for that very reason -- even if we wouldn't be caught dead wearing one. The latest is the "faster" and "lighter" Zypad WL1500, which packs a 3.5-inch QVGA display (resistive, naturally), a Marvell PXA320 processor, a whopping 128MB of flash storage, and some 3G connectivity in addition to WiFi and Bluetooth -- not to mention Windows CE 6.0 for an OS. If you haven't figured it out by now, this one isn't exactly intended for consumer use, but Eurotech is still targeting a fairly broad audience of professional users, including folks in everything from law enforcement to transportation to medical fields. Look for it to be available in the second quarter of this year for a yet to be disclosed price.
Games are making more money than all other electronics in Japan
It's a bit surprising to hear positive news regarding Japan's game industry -- in light of the general negative atmosphere that surrounds it. While some reports focus on the perpetual shrinking of the Japanese market, other reports, such as the latest from analysts Eurotechnology Japan KK, point out that the industry is doing much better than other electronic goods in this current economic climate.Pitting the combined net annual income of the top nine gaming companies against the top 19 electronics companies, Eurotech Japan has found out that games have provided a more stable stream of revenue. Looking at the chart above, it would appear the global recession hasn't affected gaming as it has other electronics industries (giving more credence to the recession proof theory). Although, the chart also seems to indicate, in contrary to previous reports, that Japan's game industry isn't in decline but is rather in stagnation. Does that then mean if there was no recession, we'd be seeing healthier growth? Or does being "recession proof" also work in reverse? [Via Cnet]
Eurotech introduces Atom-powered in-wall Panel Computers
Why leave all the new computer fun to your desk or lap, right? In an effort to give that barren wall of yours something to cheer about, Eurotech has recently introduced a new trio of Panel Computers, all of which are powered by Intel's less-than-amazing Atom CPU. The Vx-120F-N270 and Vx-150F-N270 are practically identical save for the 12.1- and 15-inch touchscreens (respectively), with each possessing an Atom N270 processor, a fanless design, high-brightness LCD, twin gigabit Ethernet jacks, a front-mounted USB port and an expansion slot for add-on boards. The outfit also debuted the rugged Bx-400F-N270, which should withstand abuse not seen on typical in-wall PCs. Prices have yet to be made public, but you can pretty much bank on your local home automation dealer charging a boatload come mid-September.
