It's been quite a while since SOE announced server merges for EverQuest II. While they're not all happening at once, the big day is finally upon us for a pair of the game's under-populated shards. Blackburrow and Everfrost are down for approximately 24 hours (which began this morning at 12:00 a.m.). The new Everfrost should emerge from the ashes around midnight if all goes according to plan. In addition to those two outages, cross-server chat, in-game mail, and friends lists on all servers may experience some shenanigans while the work is ongoing. Check out the official word on the EQII website for more information. While you're waiting, have a look at what our EQII expert Karen Bryan has to say about the changes in a server merge edition of The Tattered Notebook.

If you're leveling up an alt in EverQuest II, this weekend will provide an excellent opportunity to put a bunch of levels behind you, as certain zones will be positively burning with the tremendous heat that extra experience points generate. That's right -- some regular zones have become "Hot Zones" and players can enjoy a boosted XP rate whilst hunting in them over the weekend. There's a theme to the Hot Zones, and it's decidedly old-school. All of the affected zones are from the original game's release, with none o' them newfangled expansion areas included. The bonus zones are The Caves, Antonica, Sunken City, The Commonlands, Nektulos Forest, Enchanted Lands and Everfrost. EQII. The announcement on the community site also features quite a staggering number of screenshots of the aforementioned zones that are sure to poke at your nostalgia glands, and perhaps inspire you to get out there and make use of the XP bonuses on offer.

  • Wrath 101: The Sons of Hodir

The Sons of Hodir is arguably one of the most important reputations in Wrath of the Lich King due to the items they offer. They're the only faction in Northrend that offers shoulder enchantments for PvE, in rare and epic flavors. Casters? Melee? Healers? Tanks? The Sons of Hodir have all of your shoulder enchants. The quest chain to completely open up the Sons of Hodir rep grind is long. Really, really long. It's long in the good way, though. It's epic, and part of the chain is quite possibly one of the most fun quests in Wrath, and is as close to God of War as you're going to get in WoW. 'God of War in WoW!?' is what you're probably thinking. My answer to that? Yes. It's freaking awesome.
