Is your craving for Fallout 3 currently and properly satiated? If so, hold onto this link for a fix later, but otherwise check out Xbox360Achievement's listing of the game's, well, Achievements. Aside from the usual (30 quest-based, 9 level and karma-based), our favorite new achievement is going to be Psychotic Prankster, which essentially involves adding to your "Exploding Pants" statistic by "placing a grenade or mine while pickpocketing." Of course, the highlights of these little Gamerscore supplements are the associated Vault Boy icons, which would make a great collage for our desktop background.[Thanks, Dan]

While waiting for the (much-delayed) final Omegathon to start last night, over a dozen Vault-boy puppets (of Fallout 3 fame) congregated to show off their grooving and shaking skills to a crowd of bemused onlookers. It's really what made the cheesy music infinitely more anti-meh. Check out their moves in the video above, as well as in our Omegathon gallery.%Gallery-30939%

In an interview with Bethesda executive producer Todd Howard we discussed Fallout 3's lack of a MOD support and this generation of consoles. While Howard admits the team wants to add support for user generated content he confesses adding the feature -- which was included in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion -- is a daunting task for a team eager to complete the epic adventure."We don't [have MOD support at launch], we want to but we have our hands so full with getting the game out and getting tools out there that work well for people and with the game is a pretty big undertaking," Howard told Joystiq. Fresh out of the Penny Arcade Expo are gameplay videos from Fallout 3. Todd Howard of Bethesda narrates each of the five videos. The first one is the very beginning of the game where you escape from Vault 101 located right outside of Washington DC to find out what happened to your father. You can configure how your character will look with a number of options, including a "face, various hairstyles, or a ludicrously long list of beards."The second video has your character approach a local town named Megaton, where inhabitants offer you advice and jobs. Mechanics demonstrated here include taking meds to make you smarter and listening to the PIPBoy transmissions. We won't spoil the rest for you guys, but definitely watch the end of the fifth video for a ... funghi surprise. All the videos are after the jump.

There are five (count 'em five) videos showcasing Megaton, the Wasteland, Super-Duper Mart, and more after the break.

Today is Sunday, which not only means we're less than twenty-four hours away from manic Monday, but it also means it's time for some Xbox 360 deal hunting. Sadly though, the deals available this week lead a lot to be desired. At Best Buy, there are a few pre-order deals including a free Nuka Cola can opener with a Fallout 3 pre-order and a ringtone / poster kit with a Saints Row 2 pre-order, but that's about it. Really. Circuit City is giving away a free wireless controller with any Xbox 360 purchase and are also handing out $5 gift cards with the purchase of Tiger Woods 09. The usually video game friendly Target doesn't have a darn thing to offer us. Those are all the deals we could find which is sad really, so just move along ...

Bethesda has announced that the release date for their post-apocalyptic RPG title Fallout 3 is October 28th. The European release is three days later on October 31st. All versions of the game will be released this day, including the Collector's Edition and the uber-super Survival Edition. We added a couple of new screenshots in the gallery below, along with some concept art. To some of us, this is one of the biggest third-party titles to come out this year. We can't wait!%Gallery-4357%

"Prepare for the future" indeed! And by "future" we specifically mean October 28th (or October 31st for our European pals) because that's when Bethesda's "Best of E3"-award winning Fallout 3 – including the Collector's and Survival editions – falls into retailer's laps.Vlatko Andonov, Bethesda Softworks prez, teases, "To meet the huge demand for this title by our fans worldwide, we are planning one of the biggest launches of any game released this year." We're not sure what Bethesda's got in store, but when discussing a game set in a post-apocalyptic nuclear wasteland, we're excited to see how big of a splash it can make. • Fallout 3 edited, unbanned in Australia

    by

It was revealed last month that Bethesda's Fallout 3 was refused classification by Australia's Classification Board, which effectively amounted to a ban on the game. Good news Aussie gamers, Fallout 3 has been reclassified as MA 15+, which means it's not banned after all! There's a catch though, as the game had to be edited in order to be resubmitted to the Classification Board. According to the ratings body, "the reward and incentive" for in-game drug use -- Fallout 3 players can use "chems" to enhance certain stats (and lower others) -- has been heavily reduced. So, what? You get +3 now instead of +10?We don't know the answer, but the upshot is that Fallout 3 will be available Down Under, and that's good news for everyone.[Via Joystiq]

  • Edited version of Fallout 3 headed to Australia

    08.13.2008

As we reported last month, Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) refused classification for the highly-anticipated shooter Fallout 3, effectively making the game illegal to sell in the island country. Apparently, this was due to the nature of the drugs used in the game, which allowed a player to enhance themselves at the cost of a corresponding negative effect. Bethesda then resubmitted the game with edits, and now the OFLC has classified the game MA 15+, the highest rating allowed on any video game in Australia. So what was taken out? The OFLC stated "the reward and incentive for in-game drug use had been significantly toned down." Does this statement imply gameplay changes? It is bad enough when this type of unwarranted censorship occurs, but if there are indeed changes to the gameplay elements, maybe it is best for those of you Down Under to import the game from elsewhere.[Via Joystiq]

  • Fallout 3 unbanned in Australia, edited down under

The Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) has reclassified Fallout 3 with a MA 15+ rating, essentially unbanning it in the territory. The title was previously refused classification, which meant it could not be sold in the territory, thanks to the Australian government's [insert expletive here] notion that any video game unsuitable for a 15-year-old should be illegal for all ages -- there is currently no R 18+ rating for games.Gamespot reports that Fallout 3's "reward and incentive" for in-game drug use had been toned down to receive the MA 15+. The OFLC originally objected to the use of "chems" -- substances that would give characters positive and negative effects -- as the board felt the chemicals and their delivery methods were too close to the real, pre-apocalypse world.

This is it, folks. The winners of the official Game Critics Awards for E3 2008 – as chosen by 36 representatives (including yours truly) from most of the leading video game outlets – have been revealed. Leading the pack with two wins each are Fallout 3 – winner of "Best of Show" and "Best RPG" – along with LittleBigPlanet – winner of Best Console game and Best Social/Casual/Puzzle game. The top publisher was EA (just like in our own awards) with five wins, while Sony took second place with an impressive three wins. In terms of platform concentration, the Xbox 360 barely edged out the competition with eight wins versus both the PC and PS3's seven (for those of you keeping track, the Wii only managed one win and that was for its version of Madden 09). We've got the full list after the break, or check out the Game Critics site for the breakdown by publisher and platform or refresh your memory with this list of nominees in the various categories.

This week is labeled "Detroit edition" for the uncanny resemblance to Detroit's ... urban landscape. We're just kidding of course; we know our Detroit readers out there can take a jesting potshot once in awhile.Anyway, it's a small update this time around. Just another set of three screens. Yesterday was "Oblivion edition" for Fallout 3 with those tasty new screens, but today is "Invasion edition." Why is that so, you ask? Well, just look at that Brotherhood of Steel army amassing in the picture above. Those are real, life-sized statues located somewhere in one of Bethesda Softworks' newly renovated fallout vaults. Possibly number 101. If you're thinking that those statues are tiny figurines that'll fit in your hand, think again. These babies look to be at least seven feet tall. Check the pic after the break to get a sense of scale, or just hit Bethesda Blog for more awesome pics. So, Bethesda, what are you going to do with all of these? Are you going to give us one?

Click for high resolution image It's not uncommon to hear parallels being drawn between Fallout 3 and Bethesda Softworks' other big title: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion; even if they are two very different games -- one's fantasy, the other is futuristic sci-fi. The image above is probably the only one out of this new bunch that gives any sort of resemblance to the medieval world of Oblivion. So let's play a little game: can you spot the difference that truly points out that this screen could not have taken place in Oblivion? Look closely. Here's the answer for the lazy: [transmission tower]Other than that one pic, the rest of the new screenshots in our gallery below are definitely injected with the post apocalyptic vibe that Fallout is known for. We didn't even need to play Fallout 3 at E3 to know that it's going to be a very big deal (but we're glad we did, and have a hands-on coming soon). In continuing to ramp up excitement for the game's upcoming release, Bethesda is collaborating with the Penny Arcade crew on a weekly series of Fallout webcomics, the first of which debuted today.According to Bethesda's Pete Hines, the idea was actually pitched to PA's Gabe and Tycho "years ago," ultimately resulting in an original story focusing on a Vault other than 101, which is the kick-off point for Fallout 3. Click here or on the panel above to read the entire three-panel debut strip. New strips will go up on the Fallout 3 site every Wednesday, come rain or nuclear holocaust.

Hopefully we're not in danger of providing Fallout 3 overload, and if you haven't gotten the idea yet, we're really looking forward to this game. It's literally a cool science fiction series skin slapped on top of Oblivion, but we're not complaining about that. Blowing away mutants in the wasteland? Yes, please. Here's the meat and bones from our time with Bethesda's Todd Howard, and you can listen to the full audio interview below. After the break, find out some tidbits like the size of the world, how many radio stations are in the game, and why you won't be dual-wielding or buying horse armor. Oh, and be sure to pay attention to the exploding pants achievement.

  • PS3 Fanboy hands-on: Fallout 3

Fallout 3 is Oblivion set in the post-apocalyptic future. If you don't mind that fact, then you'll probably love this game. From the minute you set eyes on the title, the similarities are obvious. This is still clearly Fallout, though. The world feels lovingly recreated from the original games, but expanded with some Bethesda flair. One of the biggest downsides of Oblivion (and the entire Elder Scrolls series) has been fixed in Fallout 3. While the game can be played as a first- or third-person shooter, with point and shoot gameplay, this is inadvisable thanks to accuracy and control problems. Instead, a Fallout style targeting system allows you pause the game mid-battle and decide how you'll spend your "action points." %Gallery-4357%
