Fatshark, the studio behind class-based shooter, Lead & Gold, has announced its next project: Hamilton's Great Adventure. A pretty stark departure from shooting up the ol' west, Hamilton's Great Adventure is an action puzzle game featuring an Indiana Jones-esque protagonist. Together with his bird Sasha, he must "crack crafty conundrums and challenges." The game is scheduled to arrive this April, with versions planned for consoles (we're guessing PS3 and 360) and PC. %Gallery-114451%

You won't have to wait long to find out whether jumping was a sensible addition to Bionic Commando. As one of its CES announcements, Capcom has revealed that Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, the downloadable sequel that also adds a jaunty moustache, will be released for PSN on Tuesday, February 1 for $15, with the XBLA version following a day later for the same price (1200 Microsoft Points). Check out our gallery for new gameplay shots, plus a look at some new Challenge Rooms and the moustachetic box art. Nathan "Rad" Spencer looks pretty thrilled about his game, at least!%Gallery-113019%

PlayStation Plus subscribers growing weary of the DC Universe Online beta will be glad to read that a new trio of free games awaits them in the coming calendar year. PSN multiplayer game Lead & Gold: Gangs of the Wild West, PlayStation classic Spyro the Dragon, and PSN Mini Pipe Madness will unlock for free to all PS Plus members as of January 4, 2011. A handful of discounts will also become available, as well as a duo of featured themes and avatars. For those of you not yet enjoying December's PS Plus spoils, you've got until the aforementioned January date to snag 'em -- Dead Nation for $12 instead of $15? Yes, please! That said, at this point, you'll likely be the third or fourth person queuing up to speak with Superman in DCUO, but hopefully it'll be worth the wait.

  • Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 introduces 'Retro' mode and Megacopter

In the latest Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 media, Nathan "Rad" Spencer takes on the Megacopter, a big vehicle with kind-of-convenient areas to grab with a bionic arm. Well, it's convenient until the jets turn on, anyway. Check out video footage after the break. Capcom also officially announced the "retro" difficulty for Fatshark's side-scrolling sequel (first revealed earlier this week by MTV), which removes the new, and controversial, jumping ability. That should satisfy Bionic Commando purists: not only can you play through the game without jumping -- you can play through it without even the temptation to do so.%Gallery-107216%

So far, I'm not really sure I like Bionic Commando Rearmed 2. Some context: I'm a huge fan of both the original Bionic Commando and its 2008 remake, Bionic Commando Rearmed. They're two of the cleverest, most challenging games around, a real treat for someone that's been playing games for nigh on twenty years. So why am I unsure of Rearmed 2? Because Fatshark had the audacity to change things -- and if you're a cranky old codger like me, you might be resistant. The rest of you, however, will probably welcome the game with open (bionic) arms. %Gallery-95493%

If you've been running into a significant number of unexpected problems during your nightly Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West matches on the PS3, a recent patch might just be the remedy you're looking for. See, right there in the update's notes, it promises "an elimination of unexpected problems." You were just talking about how much you hated those. More specifically, the patch fixes a few tiny annoyances which appeared in a few game modes, like a bug that made it difficult to grab loot sacks while playing "Robbery" -- a mode which focuses largely on the grabbing of loot sacks. Apparently, there's been an overwhelming amount of demand from the Lead & Gold: Gangs of the Wild West community for a map that features a locomotive. We can understand why --- trains are inherently pretty rad, especially when placed in an online shooter battleground. Developer Fatshark has delivered said (stationary) setpiece in a new map called "Jacob's Bridge," part of a recent update to the PC version of Lead & Gold. The update also adds the new "Demolition" mode, which we don't know much about, except that it predominantly features the use of volatile powderkegs, and that's just fine by us. Check out a trailer for the new train-centric map after the jump.

Fatshark has managed to circle the wagons and issue some repairs to its Western shooter, Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West. Not only has each individual class received tweaks -- which in turn affect the strength of the proximity-based Synergy system -- but a variety of features have been added to the game, including in-game voice chat and the ability to invite friends from the pause menu. Lead designer Mårten Stormdal says the input of the community has been integral in shaping the game. "We've listened to the players' feedback and their input has been invaluable. We'll keep talking to them as we add dedicated servers and other improvements in the near future." Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West is currently available on Steam and PSN in Europe. It will launch on the North American PSN on May 4.

  • Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 jumping into Q1 2011

Download in HD from Big DownloadRumored over the weekend to have been revealed at Captivate 2010, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 is now official. The game is slated to once again hit Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in Q1 2011 -- no PC version has been announced. While fans might have hoped development would be helmed by Might & Delight, the studio formed by the ex-Grin staffers responsible for the original Rearmed, the task's been handed to Fatshark, the studio behind Lead & Gold. The sequel sees Nathan Spencer return, this time fighting the presumably evil General Sabio, "a new technologically sophisticated foe," who is "on the brink of launching a deadly missile attack." Rearmed 2 also promises new weapons, two-player co-op (no word if it's online this time) and new tunes from the same composers who created the brilliant soundtrack for the original Rearmed. Of course, none of that is important because, as the debut trailer makes quite clear, Nathan has learned how to jump. %Gallery-91177%

Click to be lead to larger image Aside from the headline above, we're going to try our very best to use as few Old West-related puns as we can in giving you the news that publisher Paradox Interactive today announced an April 22 European PSN release date for its upcoming, third-person online shooter, Lead & Gold: Gangs of the Wild West. Apparently, the game won't be moseyi .... er, arriving in other territories until some time "soon" after (we followed up with Paradox for a US release date and were told one isn't available at this time). We have to imagine that cowpo ... damnit! ... gamers on PC are assuredly sneering at us right now, given their two-week lead time. But we'll see who's got the last laugh when we install Linux on this PS3! Oh ... right. %Gallery-84320%

  • Interview: Fatshark CEO confirms Lead & Gold PSN release, DLC plans

    04.01.2010

We had a pretty good time with Paradox Interactive's upcoming downloadable shooter, Lead and Gold, at GDC earlier this year. We had a chance to talk to developer Fatshark CEO Martin Wahlund, who not only talked about creating a download-only shooter, but also confirmed a PS3 release and plans for downloadable content. Why make this a download-only game, instead of a fully featured retail game? Marin Wahulund, Fatshark: Our aim was to create an easily accessible game with a low price, so doing a digital release seemed like a good fit. We also wanted to make a game that we will continue to support post-release. It is easier to do that when your players stay connected. There are many online-only multiplayer shooters coming to download platforms. Any concerns that the market may be oversaturated? Of course that is always a fear. You are always nervous when you release a game, but I do think that you get fantastic value in our game in terms of the low price with the high quality of the game. The game is also set in the Wild West and there aren't many good shooters in that setting. In addition, the heavy focus on teamplay and 3rd person view makes it more unique. %Gallery-84320%

Hang on a sec, are you trying to tell us that you weren't at the Paradox Interactive Convention in Stockholm, Sweden last week when the publisher showed off its upcoming game, Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West? Lucky for you then that Paradox Interactive recently released a mélange of screenshots and a developer interview to help assuage your fear of totally missing out. Developed by Swedish company Fatshark, Lead and Gold is a third-person multiplayer-focused shooter set in the Old West. As described by executive producer Martin Wahlund in the video after the break, the game features a a variety of different competitive multiplayer modes (variations on the traditional "team deathmatch" and "capture the flag," among others) to be played by the game's four classes. Set for release in "Q2 2010," we have to imagine we'll be getting some face time with the game (and news on which consoles it's coming to) in the not too distant future. %Gallery-84320%
