After this morning's news, we hoped that the U.S. would see The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the Virtual Console soon, but we'd only prayed that it might come as soon as Monday. Those prayers, it seems, have been answered. For a mere $10, gamers will be able to relive -- and for some, experience for the first time -- one of the most acclaimed experiences in gaming history. We're counting down the seconds.[Thanks, vidGuy!]

A lot of gaming goodness is about to be unleashed this week -- if we had to name this week for releases, we'd go with something clever, like Simbacube: Legend of the Unemployed-OMG Sim City DS in Japan! How's that for a name? Bit of a mouthful, but it's accurate. While we're struggling to decide where to spend cash this week, we'll surely have new Sim City DS info to tide us over, and that always makes for a good time. Next month's Game Developers Choice Awards are set to feature someone very close to our hearts. Shigeru Miyamoto, the daddy of all good things Nintendo, is going to receive this year's Lifetime Achievement award. The official announcement lauds Miyamoto's two decades of contributions to Nintendo, highlighting his involvement in all the best games ever. Previous recipients include Yuji Naka and Will Wright, and while they're great and all, frankly we're surprised they don't hook Miyamoto up with this award every year.

After last week's flood, it looks like DS owners are back down to a trickle of releases, but importers take note -- there's all sorts of hotness in Japan this week. The three Japanese releases are definitely games to watch. While we drool and dream over those, gamers in Europe can finally get in on some 3-on-3 basketball action, Mario-style.DS releases (US) F-24: Stealth Fighter For the rest of the world, check after the jump.

  • Wii Warm Up: Is the Wii remote gimmicky?

It's the question Nintendo fanboys often avoid: is the Wii controller just a gimmick? It comes up a lot, this idea that the Wii is an impulse buy (maybe once it's, y'know, around) and that we'll grow tired of random remote-flicking in favor of traditional gameplay. Some have even said the Wiimote lacks the versatility of the DS -- the system to which it is often compared. Having played a variety of games with different control schemes, we're not convinced about that, and can only imagine the Wii's true versatility will be further apparent as devs spend more and more quality time working with the controls. What we want to know, though, is what you think. Is the Wii remote a gimmick, or will it endure?

We should call this the 'Where's the DS?' edition, because if you're on our side of the world, you're pretty much out of luck. There are no U.S. releases this week for the DS. We figure that's okay, since we're all still playing Hotel Dusk anyway. But there's plenty in store for gamers elsewhere ... check it out after the jump. But while we're sitting here, gameless and weeping, we'll go ahead and ask about those of you who are still looking for a DS. Any luck lately on fulfilling your desires?

  • February: a time for surrealism

In Europe, this February is going to be weird; it will see a surfeit of quirky, off-the-wall titles, as this article in the Guardian explains. This month's releases include Psychonauts, Shadow of the Colossus, We ♥ Katamari and Stubbs the Zombie. Many of these titles have been heavily anticipated in Europe after gaining praise elsewhere, and a January that's been typically thin on the ground has left gamers with itching wallets, ready to buy anything. However, this coincidental release of several oddball titles in the same month could prove to be too much even for die-hard consumers--some of these games have seen poor sales in other territories and this may not help.Fortunately they won't vanish from shelves at the end of the month, so Europe is in for a treat.
