The staff at Siliconera was kind enough to drop us an e-mail announcing that they survived the lines and were having a blast with their shiny new copy of Final Fantasy III. They've been churning out video footage in order to share their experience with the world ... and maybe to brag, just a little. They've got the opening movie, as well as the first moments of the game, which we've included above. This is particularly interesting, as not only do we see some of the controls here, but the remake deviates a bit from the original.Yes, that means spoilers. Skip this if you want to experience it for yourself! And check out the rest of their videos. [Thanks, Siliconera!]

Call us addicts. We don't care. Call this overkill of FF III news... yeah we know. What are we without our fanboy/girl status when it comes to this? We can't help it. It's in our blood. For those of you who didn't know that a special Crystal edition Final Fantasy III DS Lite was being released, here is your chance to catch up. Here is what the box will look like if you were lucky enough to preorder one of these bad boys. Our jealousy belongs to you if you did preorder one and you better bet everyone can expect to see these sell on eBay for outrageous amounts of money. Time to save up your lawn mowing money! Japan is not messing around when it comes to showing off Final Fantasy III. This is yet another Japanese commercial for the hot remake and they are definitely flexing their make-us-jealous muscles. We see a lot of the same content, a few job class changes and a favorite summon of ours, Ifrit. Ah! Why do they torture us so? We just want to play! Alright, go back to drooling and patiently waiting for this game to hit the states this November. Then our collection will be complete (insert evil laugh here)! [Via Go Nintendo]

Square Enix finally set a street date on the North American release of the anticipated DS remake, Final Fantasy III. Slated to hit store shelves on Nov. 14, FFIII is a touched-up version of the game that many old-school U.S. gamers never knew -- our FFIII was really the Japanese version of FFVI.The game will take advantage of the DS' Wi-Fi capabilities allowing players to "communicate with others and uncover hidden dungeons, quests, and items using a Wi-Fi connection."

Yes friends, more Final Fantasy III propaganda from us to you. Your heads are spinning with Nobuo Uematsu's hypnotizing music and you can't tell if what you are driving is a car or a chocobo. When someone cuts you off on the highway your first response is "Fiagra!". We know. We've been there many times and often do not want to return which is causing us to keep stuffing you full of Final Fantasy III news. You know you like it. The FF III update today is that there is a Wiki page dedicated to translating the Japanese version of the game. The page is slowly building info on the weapons, spells, items, main menu index, job classes and even the story line. So, read with caution. You might stumble across some of the plot, creating the potential to ruin your game experience when it's released here in November. [Via No Filter]

We love being able to watch the intro of a highly anticipated game... when we get the game. This kind of spoils the feeling, if you get what we mean, but it also provides a chance to prepair for the awesomness that this game will be. Okay, so maybe it isn't really a spoiler but it does show you a few seconds worth of unseen footage. Why did it have to get pushed back? Why?! [Thanks JC!]

Gaming magazine Famitsu recently released a list of the 20 most wanted games. Guess what was at the top of the list? Final Fantasy III. That's right, a ton of people are craving this re-release and they want it so bad that they dubbed it more important than even Pokemon Diamond/Pearl. It's also no surprise to see that listed right below FF III is Final Fantasy XIII. As long as Square makes 'em, we'll buy 'em. [Via Advanced Media Network]

In the words of a poodle toting glamor gal, "that's hot." And the drooling begins. This simple display of the different versions of the Final Fantasy III box is enough to get us giddy and remember why we love games. Well, why we love RPG's. We love seeing a few samples of the character classes in action. Could this be the box that they special Final Fantasy III DS Lite comes in? Probably not but we can dream can't we? [Via Go Nintendo]

On August 24, Final Fantasy III and Rune Factory: Shin Bokujou Monogatari (Harvest Moon spinoff) will be released in Japan fo DS. While FFIII certainly has the brand edge, both titles look to boost the DS's credibility as a viable RPG platform. Famitsu recently published its reviews for the two games, suggesting that FFIII is slightly superior: Final Fantasy III (Square Enix): 9/8/9/8 - 34/40* Rune Factory (Marvelous Interactive): 8/9/7/9 - 33/40 Keep in mind that, back in March, Children of Mana scored even higher than FFIII, earning a 36/40, and will be released in the US on October 30. FFIII will land stateside in November (hopefully). Rune Factory: Shin Bokujou Monogatari has not been confirmed for release outside of Japan, but Harvest Moon DS is scheduled for September 12. *C3 News notes that Famitsu's score for the original FFIII (NES) was 35/40.

  • Final Fantasy III Wi-Fi details [Update 1]

    07.22.2006

Those who have played Final Fantasy IX will vaguely remember a system called "MogNet", in which the player took up the role of carrier between moogles worldwide. There was also something about a purple moogle who used too much hair gel, or something. Whatever. Anyway, the "MogNet" system will be making a comeback in the updated DS version of Final Fantasy III. In addition to performing said tasks to unlock various side-quests in the single-player game, players will have the ability to send messages via Nintendo Wi-Fi to other players of the game. Don't instant messages seem a little easier, though? If Square-Enix doesn't implement some sort of in-game incentive, it may be a fairly unused feature. More details are still forthcoming, says Square-Enix, so keep holding your breath for a party vs. party battle system over Wi-Fi. Oh, how we long.[Thanks, GamingBurrito!][LOL. GamingBurrito. Awesome.][Update 1: Minor grammar issues corrected.]

A Final Fantasy III (DS) video -- minus the fluff -- has surfaced on YouTube. Although edited, this clip is 3:44 of gameplay footage: a lil' exploring ... a surprise skirmish ... some more explorin' ... a lethargic giant-tortoise boss battle ... a shiny crystal -- you know, classic Final Fantasy. Sure it's garden variety, but it's a proven formula and looking extremely polished at home on DS.

ClubSkill.com reports that a leaked screenshot from Jump, a Japanese publication, reveals that Final Fantasy III will make use of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, at least in part, by allowing friends to send 'letters' to each other. Exchanging these emails is said to trigger special events in the game.Fair enough, but we're still holding out for some true co-op functionality, or even just a simple battle mode. C'mon Square Enix, we play games to take a break from emailing!

  • Final Fantasy III's beautiful boxart

Boxart generally isn't interesting enough to post, but this beautiful work is obviously an exception to the rule. This is the final Japanese boxart for Final Fantasy III, the most anticipated DS title in Japan...and probably everywhere else, too. Though there's no confirmation, the visual style appears to match long-time Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano, who has completed numerous works for the series over the years.Though we're quite loathe to say it, the handling of North American boxart tends to be a bit, ah...bungled. But what soulless, fiendish monster would replace such splendor? Final Fantasy III (and its amazing boxart) is scheduled for North American release on September 12th of this year.

  • New Nintendo Power issue arrives, spills beans [Update 1]

The newest issue of Nintendo Power (shown to the right) has a few interesting tidbits of information. Final Fantasy III DS will apparently have some sort of Wi-Fi compatibility (party vs. party?), and Suda51 (a.k.a. Goichi Suda) has confirmed Contact 2 for an unknown system, as well as another unconfirmed game for the Wii. That guy loves his Nintendo.A few other glimmers of information: There is the confirmation that with the exception of the control scheme, the Gamecube and Wii versions of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will be identical. This is probably to avoid the screaming throngs of Gamecube owners that would certainly resort to outright violence upon hearing they were neglected. [Update 1: Made the post a little more DS-centric and environmentally friendly.]
