Found Footage: Steve introduces the "1984" ad
Here's a great video of Steve introducing the famous "1984" ad to a boisterous crowd (we're guessing the Macintosh team) a week before it aired during the 1984 Super Bowl. I'd say they liked it.If Steve's good at one thing, it's making a persuasive speech. Thanks, Callum!Update: Reader cuda440 says, "That was at the January 1984 annual shareholder's meeting, held at the Flint Center, De Anza College, Cupertino. I know because I was there, as were nearly all of my fellow Apple employees. Obviously this was before MacWorld, and the shareholder's meeting was where major product announcements were made."Cool! Thanks for the info, cuda440!
Found Footage: Gates vs. Jobs
This PG-13 cartoon (there is just a tad of saucy language, you have been warned) depicts an epic battle between Steve Jobs and Bill Gates in iWorld. Definitely worth a watch, if only for the Finder's song.[via Buzz Patrol]
Steve Jobs interview on CNBC
You've watched the Keynote, but you need another hit of that Reality Distortion Field, don't you? Check out this CNBC interview with Steve Jobs after his Keynote. Steve talks about why Apple is going into the phone business (hint, Steve wanted an iPhone of his own and he has a little pull at Apple).Steve also talks about the stock options scandal that we've been covering.
Found Footage: Subaru carputer
I admit it: I'm a sucker for car computers. The mini just makes so much sense for getting your Mac on while cruising down the highway. Sam Garfield has a beautiful take on the mini based carputer in his Subaru WRX. He's using a touch-sensitive 7" LCD with a Front Row like interface called AMP. It really is a professional looking mod; I think my family may need to keep me away from the car for a while so I don't tear it up. [Via Powerpage]
Found Footage: EasyPay
Blogging for TUAW is great. If I weren't blogging here I wouldn't have found this a Christmas present waiting for me in my Inbox. A little birdie sent along this a video, created by folks at the LA Apple Store, featuring some dude dressed up as an EasyPay unit and a creative reworking of What Is Love. This video tries to encourage Apple Store employees to get people to pay using EasyPay (which Mat covered here). The video is about 57 megs and clocks in at a little less than 5 minutes long. UPDATE: Apple has informed us that the video is internal to Apple and not intended for public viewing, and therefore requested that we remove it from our server.
Found Footage: New Nike+ commercial
Nike has a new commercial out advertising the Nike+ iPod sports kit. It features a young man getting off a couch, iPod in hand, to go running. He runs on a treadmill whilst he scenery changes in the background. But why are you reading about the commercial, just go watch it![via iLounge]
Found Footage: The Woz sells the Datsun 280z
The Woz always makes me smile, and his turn in this Datsun commercial is no different. Watch and find out why the Woz prefers the Z, and how his voice goes down many octaves when he is enthusiastic.[via stevenf]
Found Footage: Mac Mini Portable
This video is a little old, but it is still very cool. Peter Green hacked himself up the smallest Mac portable out there: an 8 inch screen combined with a battery, scroll pad and a G4 Mac mini = an ugly, but very portable, Mac.Check out all the details at his .Mac page, and it looks like Peter is going to be hacking an Intel version sooner or later. Here's to the crazy ones.[via Gizmodo, though they only have one pic]
Found Footage: Woz on Colbert
Here's the video of last night's Colbert Report interview of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. It certainly is fun, and it seems Steven Colbert wasn't quite ready for the Woz's unique personality. Thanks, Bill I.
Found Footage: 2 New Get a Mac ads air on Canadian TV
TUAWer Connor let us know that he was able to upload two Get a Mac commercials that are airing in Canada (though not in the US, as of yet). The ad pictured to the right features the Mac talking about getting some work done, while Counseling depicts the PC and the Mac trying to see eye to eye with the help of a counselor (it doesn't go well). Thanks, Connor.
Found Footage: Steve Jobs on CNBC
Shortly after yesterday's big announcements (apparently he gave a speech or something), Steve Jobs appeared on CNBC to talk about the new iPods and the movies that are now a part of the iTunes Store. He mentions the "seasonal" aspect of iPod sales, and that they're optimistic heading into the holiday shopping season. He also gives a generic "no comment" statement regarding the stock options backdating issue that's currently going on.Finally, not that it has to do with anything, but the reporter is trying to talk as sirens and air horns on a few firetrucks scream in the background. It's kind of funny.
Found Footage: Expos and Spaces in Leopard
Gah! All this waiting for Leopard is killing me. Luckily, we have videos like this to sate our hunger (at least for a few seconds). The video shows off Exposé and Spaces being used in conjuction. Oh, we like eye candy.[via Digg]
Found Footage: OS 7.5 on a Nintendo DS
File this under, 'Where there's a will, there's a way.' Here we see a video of OS 7.5 running on a Nintendo DS using MiniVMacDS. There is no pratical reason for doing this, since the screen size really makes this unusable. It is, however, very cool.
Found Footage: We Are Apple, a 1984 Musical Montage
This video was ripped from a videotape (which explains the lack of video quality) of the 1984 Apple Shareholders' meeting, where the original Macintosh was unveiled (this is unconfirmed; some are saying it was shown at the Moscone Center during the launch of the Apple IIc). Like a train wreck, I just can't look away. I've watched it about a dozen times now. I think there might be something wrong with me.
Found Footage: Andy Hertzfeld at Google
Andy Hertzfeld, the first Mac programmer ever, was recently at Google's New York City offices (which they keep very dark it would seem). He was there to give a talk about his book, Revolution in the Valley (which is based on his website Folklore.org). Oddly enough, the talk found its way onto Google Video (it is embedded in this post, or you can watch it here). The talk is a little over an hour long. Enjoy!
Found Footage: iAlertU
This video purports to be a demo of an early Alpha of iAlertU, the only way to make sure your Mac doesn't get 'jacked,' as the kids say. It might be real (though I am skeptical) but it certainly is an amusing idea. Thanks, Brandon Hays.
