The prophets were correct future war shooter fans, there's a brand new Frontlines: Fuel of War demo on the Marketplace and it's calling your name. The massively bloated 1.7GB Frontlines demo should (key word here, "should") be available to most Xbox Live regions for download and is said to feature a pretty good taste of what Frontlines will bring when it releases early next year. We have yet to give this demo a whirl, so if you're interested you'll have to go in blindfolded, because we aren't sure if the Unreal Engine 3 graphics or Kaos Studios' development blends to create a satisfying FPS experience. But that's what demos were created for, so demo away.[Thanks, big filth]

  • Frontlines demo expected in time for Christmas

With information gathered from a recent THQ press event, TeamXbox is reporting that they've confirmed with the developers that a Frontlines: Fuel of War demo will be released to the XBLM this December. General manager of Kaos Studios Frank DeLise confirmed the XBLM demo's December release following a press demonstration of the game. Funny thing is that DeLise didn't confirm an actual release date for the game, probably due to the fact that neither he or his studio are sure of one. Then again, if you use some basic analytics, if a demo is being released to the Marketplace this December then one could make the assumption that the game's retail release wouldn't be too far behind. We say look for Frontlines to hit store shelves early 2008.

  • Destroy All Humans, Saint's Row sequels not coming this year

A brief note in publisher THQ's fiscal report (PDF file) indicates that a previously announced sequel to Saint's Row will not be marching until fiscal year 2009. In calendar terms, that means excess excess pimp-slapping won't be coming until at least April 1, 2008. Conspicuously absent from the entire report was a mention of a Destroy All Humans sequel. Though DAH3 was reportedly announced in a German magazine as coming out this calendar year to consoles, no mentions were made of the franchise for either FY 2008 or 2009. It is still listed as one of its key IPs, however. There's always a chance, however slim, that THQ could pull a surprise announcement at next week's Min-E3. Expected this fiscal year from THQ are Stuntman: Ignition, Frontlines: Fuel of War, Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights and MX vs. ATV. Oh, and licensed titles, too.

  • Frontlines: Fuel of War pushed to 2008

THQ has announced that Frontlines: Fuel of War has been delayed. For the uninitiated, Fuel of War is a team-based combat game on a grand scale, filled with multiple classes, vehicles, and weapons (you may want to check out Joystiq's hands-on impressions of the game from earlier this year). Sound like fun? Too bad, because Fuel of War won't be coming out until 2008. The reason? THQ didn't want to be part of the already full Holiday 2007 lineup. In other words, going up against monsters like GTAIV and Halo 3 didn't sound like a good business decision. Probably a good call, really. Was anyone out there looking forward to Frontlines: Fuel of War?

At a recent San Francisco THQ-hosted event, I got some hands-on time with the Kaos Studios FPS, Frontlines: Fuel of War. The game, due this Fall, is based on the movement of the leading waves of troops; in multiplayer and single-player, moving the front line forward while securing checkpoints generally wins the battle. This approach seems like an interesting direction, although it owes a lot to traditional checkpoint, squad-based FPS titles. Much of the gameplay still feels typical of the genre -- our map of choice was an oil refinery and its oh-so-many shades of brown -- but the controls seem responsive and fun. Frontlines: Fuel of War may not truly innovate -- at least this still-in-progress version didn't -- but it may still be a fun next step for team-based FPS games.%Gallery-1446%

  • Today's sneakiest game video: Frontlines - Fuel of War hidden tour

Sneaky hidden videos will always score high on our list, particularly if they don't involve Britney, Paris, and Lindsay. It's time we reclaimed their 15 minutes because they've run into serious overtime. So, the story behind this video is as follows: 'Games For Windows' Magazine recently filmed a totally unathorized, hidden video tour of Kaos Studios for a piece about Frontlines: Fuel of War. They weren't thrilled about having their HQ filmed Geraldo-style, but THQ (the publisher) didn't want to retaliate against the magazine, for fear that they would give them a bad review in return. So, once all the smoke has cleared, what does that leave us with? Frankly, not too much. Either it's a well planned "fake" secret video, or else it's a new wave of marketing going into effect that really embraces the old adage "there's no such thing as bad publicity." Of course, nothing really groundbreaking or damaging was revealed in this video ... or was it? Does this mean we can start running around developer HQs with a camera, knowing that they won't want us to pan their upcoming games? Hmmmmmm ...

We hope you aren't getting sick of WWII or army shooters just because there is a new one announced each and every day. And today's new screenshots come from one of those war games. Make the jump and check out the five new screenshots for upcoming Xbox 360 game Frontlines: Fuel of War. Yup, they sure are pretty, but are they pretty enough to grab your attention? With games like CoD 3 and upcoming game GRAW 2, we question whether Frontlines can compete in the war genre.[Thanks, Bobbo]

  • Frontlines brings 64 person multiplayer [update 1]

Update: An inside source reports to us that the information in Game Informer is a misprint. Matches over Xbox Live will be limited to 32 players. The PC version, however, should support 64 players online. Too bad, though 32 is nothing to sneeze at.The latest issue of Game Informer has a spread on Frontlines: Fuel of War, developed by Kaos Studios. Announced last April, Frontlines: Fuel of War is a military FPS featuring vehicular combat and advanced weaponry. The biggest tidbit of information, however, is revealed in the game's description. Should you walk by a copy of Game Informer in your local grocery store, flip to page 72 and focus your eyes directly under the title: "Up to 64-player via Xbox Live." You may be compelled to rub your eyes and unleash a hearty "whaa?" It's understandable. So there you go, from some of the same people that brought you Battlefield 2 comes 64 player madness.Anyone looking forward to this now?
