Disney pulls the plug on FX Networks' standalone streaming service

There's bound to be a lot of changes, both big and small, at 21st Century Fox now that Disney's acquisition of the media giant is completed. One of those is the shutdown of FX Networks' Plus subscription service, which it launched with Comcast back in 2017. FX+ offers on-demand and ad-free streaming of the network's shows, including American Horror Story, The Shield and Sons of Anarchy, for $6 a month. According to the notice posted on the FX+ website, it will no longer be available by August 21st, 2019 and members only have until August 20th to enjoy the service.

  • Sharp FX Plus venturing beyond Walmart this month, we go hands-on

If you haven't heard of the Sharp FX Plus, you must not be the type to troll the halls of your local Walmart. The phone went on sale there a few weeks back, and a PCD rep just confirmed it'll soon venture outside Walmart's massive aisles, hitting select AT&T stores "channels" by the end of the month. We spotted it tonight as we were wandering around a New York City media event. There it was, sitting on a lone table, overshadowed by the likes of the HTC Thunderbolt and Incredible 2. Alas, the device on hand wasn't active, so we didn't get to peek the software / performance, but hit the break for some quickie impressions of just how much hardware this free phone'll get you. %Gallery-133820%

  • Sharp FX Plus for AT&T quietly goes on sale at Walmart

After playing peek-a-boo on a Walmart brochure last week, the Sharp FX Plus just became a bona fide reality. Featured as an exclusive to the retain chain, the Sidekick-emulating Android handset has its own piece of real estate on its online store. The AT&T phone's offered for free with a two-year contract ($350 without the commitment), though it's currently backordered. We're not seeing anything new on the spec sheet: it comes preloaded with Android 2.2, has a 3.2-inch display, and holds a grand total of 512MB internal memory (expandable to 32GB via microSD). Throwing a three megapixel camera into the mix doesn't earn any wows, either, but to be fair, it's meant to be a respectable yet inexpensive option for messaging fanatics. And it has a plus at the end of its name -- that's gotta count for something, right?
